• Abolish State Statute of Limitations Laws on Child Sexual Assault
Laws that silence full grown child sexual abuse survivors who have only recently acquired the maturity, self awareness, and fortitude of personal esteem in order to share their stories, must be amended. State Statute of Limitations laws protect serial predators from prosecution while stifling their victims. There is no good reason for this baffling, archaic rule. No good reason at all.

  • Oppose Bills Criminalizing Free Speech Against Settlements & Saudi Arabia
The ACLU has written to Congress urging opposition to pending bills that seek to criminalize advocacy of boycotts against Israeli settlements in the West Bank. The ACLU warned that proponents of the bills are "seeking additional co-sponsors," and explained that the bills would "punish individuals for no reason other than their political beliefs." [1] MoveOn has joined the ACLU's opposition to the bills. "Regardless how you feel about BDS, Congress must reject action to criminalize free speech and peaceful protest. The Democrats in House and Senate must say no to H.R. 1697/S. 720," MoveOn said. “Free speech and peaceful protest are integral to democracy." [2] S.720 & H.R.1697 would erase the distinction in U.S. law between Israel and Israeli settlements in the West Bank and make it illegal for U.S. companies to boycott or otherwise discriminate against Israeli settlements in the West Bank based on calls by the United Nations or the European Union. [3] Moreover, the legislation would prohibit Americans from “requesting the imposition of any boycott by a foreign country against a country which is friendly to the United States.” This could be interpreted to prohibit supporting sanctions against Saudi Arabia for its attempts to push Yemen into famine, or for its support of extremist groups, or for prohibiting women from driving, since Saudi Arabia is inexplicably claimed by many in Washington to be "friendly to the United States.” [4] Urge your Senators and Representative to join the ACLU and MoveOn in opposing these unconstitutional bills by signing our petition. Help us reach 40,000 comments: Stop the EPA from greenlighting Pebble Mine!

  • RCA: Drop sexual predator, R. Kelly now!
Despite R. Kelly's decades-long documented coercion and sexual manipulation of young Black women, including countless civil suits and a trial for 14 counts of child pornography, he's never faced legal or financial consequences. In fact, RCA has relished in the publicity and intentionally popularized an image of R Kelly as a palatable sex symbol rather than the sexual predator he is. His well-documented pattern of grooming and abusing young girls didn't stop him from selling over 60 million albums and he's even currently on an extended national tour.

  • Rhode Island: Defend DACA and protect lifelong residents from deportation
Update: AG Kilmartin has signed onto AG Becerra (California)'s letter to the Trump administration directing them to defend DACA. Our focus is now on ensuring that our federal delegation sponsors the re-introduced Dream Act in order to codify permanent protection for Dreamers. ---- DACA, a policy memorandum issued in 2012 by Department of Homeland Security Secretary Napolitano, allows those who overstayed their visa or unlawfully entered the United States as children an opportunity to work, pay taxes, and remain in the U.S. without the constant fear of deportation. I am a DACA recipient. In 1998, I was brought to the U.S. from Portugal at the age of ten months. Prior to DACA, I was unsure of how I would live or work. I agonized over the fact that I wouldn't be able to seek lawful employment. I worried that I could be forced out of my home, the United States — the only country that I have ever known. I suffered from severe anxiety and depression. It was a challenge to merely get out of bed every morning. DACA changed my outlook on life. It has allowed me to obtain something as simple as a driver's license. It allows me to work and be treated with dignity. It allows to obtain an education and pursue the American Dream. But that dream is now at risk after ten states threatened to sue the Trump administration for continuing DACA. Dreamers are Americans in every way except for our citizenship status: something that we are not allowed to pursue because of our broken immigration system. If DACA is rescinded, the impact will be felt far beyond the 800,000 recipients nationwide that will be left jobless and unable to provide for their families. Ending DACA would have a grave economic impact on our communities, cities, and states as revenues shrink by over $800 million[2]. That is why we are calling on you, Governor Raimondo and Attorney General Kilmartin, to protect young Rhode Islanders by standing up to the Trump administration and demanding that the U.S. Justice Department defend DACA. Our federal delegation, Representatives Cicilline and Langevin, as well as Senators Reed and Whitehouse, must lead on this important issue by co-sponsoring legislation to codify a permanent solution for Dreamers. ---- [1] "Data Set: Form I-821D Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals." • Americans do you prefer "Hitler Care," "Trump Care," or "Obama Care?'
This petition is necessary to call to the attention of Americans to the genocide of Americans by repealing Obama Care. The Republican House Health Bill, Trump's Budget, and support of Republicans in the Senate are clear flagships that Trump, Republicans, and Trump supporters plan to genocide Americans. Obama Care is not about protecting the 24 million, but 321 million Americans.

  • @NikkiHaley: Back @UN Envoy @OSESGY ‏Plan to Save Yemen from Famine
UN Special Envoy for Yemen Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed has announced a plan to remove the governorate of Hodeida from the Yemeni civil war. The plan includes a ceasefire for the port, including the halt of any attacks on the port by Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates [UAE]. [1] The UN-recognized Yemeni government and Egypt have reportedly announced their support for the plan, but the United States, a key party to the conflict because of its refueling of Saudi and UAE warplanes bombing Yemen [2], has not yet publicly stated its support. As Democratic Sen. Chris Murphy has said, "The Saudis simply could not operate this bombing campaign without us. Their planes can't fly without US refueling capacity." [3] Urge Nikki Haley, US Ambassador to the UN, to publicly state US support for the UN Envoy's plan to save Hodeida and Yemen from famine by signing our petition. • Maintain Tanya Harper as Supervisor of Special Services
This petition seeks to end Clayton School District's history of demoting and or dismissing key employees, especially, African Americans, without just cause. In this case, as parents' overwhelming testimony support, Mrs. Harper is too important as Supervisor of Special Needs than to demote her to a role of chiefly enforcing discipline at Herma Simmons as Asst. Prin.
