• The Voters of Wisconsin want Equal Marriage Rights!
    The Declaration of Independence states: "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their creator with certain unalienable rights." It is every taxpaying citizen's right to be recognized by the government as equal. Anything else is discrimination, and creates a lesser class of citizenship. Therefore, the fight for marriage equality in Wisconsin is such a given, as currently our gay citizens are clearly being discriminated against. With all of this knowledge, it is shocking to me that our Governor recently stated that there is "no significant movement" to obtain equal marriage rights in Wisconsin. It's time to show Gov. Walker that he is wrong, Wisconsians DO support marriage equality and our movement is growing! Please join me in telling Scott Walker and Wisconsin, that we are all equal, and deserve equal rights and protections from the government!

    Examples of workplace bullying include: Spreading malicious rumors, gossip, or innuendo that is not true Excluding or isolating someone socially Intimidation Undermining or deliberately impeding a person’s work Physically abusing or threatening abuse Removing areas of responsibilities without cause Constantly changing work guidelines Establishing impossible deadlines that will set up the individual to fail Withholding necessary information or purposefully giving the wrong information Making jokes that are ‘obviously offensive’ by spoken word or e-mail Intruding on a person’s privacy by pestering, spying or stalking Assigning unreasonable duties or workload which are unfavorable to one person (in a way that creates unnecessary pressure) Under work – creating a feeling of uselessness Yelling or using profanity Criticizing a person persistently or constantly Belittling a person’s opinions Unwarranted (or undeserved) punishment Blocking applications for training, leave or promotion Tampering with a person’s personal belongings or work equipment And more... It is estimated that at least one third of all the employees in the state will directly experience health endangering harassment, intimidation or bullying during their work lives. This form of mistreatment is more prevalent than sexual harassment. Harassment , intimidation and bullying in the work place can inflict serious harm upon targeted employees which include shame, humiliation, severe anxiety, depression, suicidal tendencies, impaired immune systems, hypertension, increased risk of cardiovascular disease and symptoms consistent with PTSD. Additionally, harassment reduces workers productivity, morale; however it increases turnover rates and medial/worker compensation claims. Under current law employees who are subjected to harassment, intimidation and bullying ARE NOT protected if the employee cannot establish that the mistreatment was motivated by race, color, sex, sexual orientation, national origin, religion.

  • Tell Congress to Strengthen, Support & Pass the Voting Rights Amendment Act!
    Last year, the Supreme Court gutted the landmark Voting Rights Act of 1965. Since then, state legislatures across the country have raced to implement new restrictive laws that would do exactly what the Voting Rights Act was meant to protect against. We have a golden opportunity to stop that. Right Now. On January 16, 2014, Representatives Jim Sensenbrenner (R-WI) and John Conyers (D-MI) and Senator Patrick Leahy (D-VT) introduced new bi-partisan legislation—the Voting Rights Amendment Act of 2014—that would strengthen the Voting Rights Act. This bill isn't perfect, but is the best vehicle we have for restoring the rights struck down by the Supreme Court last year. Improving and passing this bill won't be easy. Already, opponents are gearing up to derail its passage. Despite the fact that the bill is bi-partisan, it's not guaranteed to pass. Join us in calling on members of Congress to improve and co-sponsor this vital bill.

    Too many Idahoans are being hurt by unequal treatment under the law for their sexual orientation and gender identity. On February 3, 44 Idaho citizens were arrested for peacefully protesting 8 years' refusal to protect those who live in fear and despair because legislators will not add these four words to the Idaho Human Rights Act. These words need to be added to make it clear that the rights of Idaho citizens may not be violated any longer.

  • Stop the Legalize Discrimination Against Gays Bill
    Rep. Gordon Denlinger, a Republican State Representative from Lancaster County, wants to amend the Pennsylvania Constitution to allow people to discriminate based on "sincerely held beliefs." According to Philly.com, under Denlinger’s proposed Freedom of Conscience Amendment, “employers, store owners, realtors, motel managers, etc., could deny jobs, groceries, homes or rooms to anyone (tall, short, pregnant, Catholic, Jewish, gay, Goth, Democrat, newspaper columnist) offending their beliefs. Just as long as those beliefs are ‘sincerely held.’” But the real reason for this bill is to legalize discrimination against LGBT people. Adding insult to injury, Denlinger introduced this outrageous idea on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. This is part of a move among some in the Republican Party to turn back the clock to the pre-Civil Rights Act period. We can't let this movement gain momentum. Tell Rep. Denlinger, and your State Representative that we don't want legal discrimination in Pennsylvania.

    For the past seven years, a fusion movement has been growing in North Carolina. In 2006, the Historic Thousands on Jones St. (HKonJ) People's Assembly Coalition was formed under the leadership of Rev. Dr. William J. Barber, II and the North Carolina NAACP. It has grown to include over 150 coalition partners. Each year this fusion movement comes together on the second Saturday in February to hold a mass people's assembly to reaffirm its commitment to the 14 Point People's Agenda and to hold lawmakers accountable to the people of North Carolina. This year's annual people's assembly will be held in the wake of a powerful push back to the immoral and unconstitutional policies supported and passed by Governor Pat McCrory, Speaker Thom Tillis, Senate Leader Phil Berger, Budget Director Art Pope and other extremists in the NC General Assembly during the 2013 Session. After 13 Moral Mondays in Raleigh leading to almost 1,000 arrests for civil disobedience and 23 local Moral Mondays spanning the entire state, the Forward Together Moral Movement and the HKonJ coalition will join together once again for the Moral March on Raleigh HKonJ People's Assembly on February 8, 2014. We are calling on all people of conscience and concern to join us as we stand against the extreme and regressive agenda being pushed in North Carolina. This agenda is a reflection of what is happening across the United States. We need to move forward together, not one step back.
