• EC Students Stand with our Food Service Workers
Here is the Facebook page for the coalition: https://www.facebook.com/CoalitionofLionsinActionwithWorkers We are a coalition of Emersonians who are moved by the desire of Emerson's food service workers to improve their economic and working conditions by forming a union. We recognize that if they organize collectively, they will have an opportunity to address these issues directly with Sodexo. We stand strongly with them in their demand for a fair process to allow them to organize. Therefore: ◊ We believe that all workers, subcontracted and directly hired, are part of the Emerson College community. ◊ We believe that all members of the Emerson College community should be treated with respect and dignity. ◊ We believe that Emerson College should provide fair, secure jobs that pay a living wage. ◊ We believe that all workers should be able to speak out against injustices in the workplace without fear of reprisal. ◊ We urge Emerson College to respect workers’ legal rights to organize a union. ◊ We urge Emerson College to never intimidate nor suppress union organizing, or allow subcontractors to intimidate or suppress union organizing.

  • Tell your CA Legislators: Say NO to Big Oil!
For years, Big Oil’s infamous lobby groups have been using big money and back-room politics to corrupt legislators, push their corporate agenda, and pull the strings at our State Capitol. It’s time to end Big Oil’s toxic influence on California and pass a long overdue oil extraction tax that would provide critical funding for our state’s childcare, preschool, higher education and parks. Let your representatives in Sacramento know you’re watching and help give them the courage to say NO to Big Oil.

  • Stop the Repeal of the Property Tax Credit in Missouri
The tax credit allows low-income, elderly or those 100% disabled to claim a portion of their rent as a tax credit. In 2012,107,000 Missourians claimed the credit, totaling $57 million. The average person is able to receive $450 a year. The maximum credit is $750. Advocates of the credit point out that it leaves the money with the recipient to direct to their specific needs rather than have that money go to a fund to be distributed as lawmakers determine. Many who receive the credit say it is essential for them, as it is used to supplement their income for items including utility bills, non-covered health care procedures and more. The Circuit Breaker Tax Credit program was first established as an amendment to the Missouri Constitution in 1972 by a direct vote of Missouri citizens and has been upheld by each legislature.

  • Rep. Hultgren: Explain your vote for Paul Ryan's job-killing budget
Rep. Randy Hultgren voted for a federal budget that would, according Economic Policy Institute, slow the economy and cost 1.1 million jobs next year -- and 3 million jobs in 2016. This is a federal budget only a billionaire or defense contractor could love. Paul Ryan's congressional budget would cut $137 billion from SNAP (food stamps), $125 billion from Pell Grants, and $16 billion to block grants for Meals on Wheels, homeless shelters, and child care for working-poor families. While Ryan's budget isn't likely to pass the Senate, we need to send Congressman Hultgren a strong message so that he knows we don't support these budget priorities. We want him to champion a budget that creates jobs and gives everyone a fair shot in life. If enough of us sign, Rep. Hultgren will know exactly where his district stands. • U.S Congress and President Obama: raise top tax rates to 60%
This petition is about empowering the middle class and poor, giving them a voice and making sure our tax system is way more fair than it is now. I want to see this country embrace its people the way it did in the 3 decades after WWII when there was never a top tax rate below 70%. In this period we built the largest middle class in the history of the U.S by investing in all areas of the economy that helped the middle class and poor.

  • Tax the Rich Like FDR did to bring us out of the Great Depression
We have always had a progressive tax system, and we need to include the rich and super rich into our tax code. It's not fair to the 99% to foot the bills of the country, when the rich and super rich have over 40% of all the money.

  • RAISE MINIMUM WAGE IN NEW YORK
Our state's current minimum wage is $8.00. That's not enough for anyone to live on. We deserve an economy that works for everyone, not just the wealthy and well-connected. Join with us in calling on our state legislature to pass legislation to raise the minimum wage to $10.10.
