• Don't kill the minimum wage bill in conference committee
I'm nervous that this might not pass again...and upset at the thought that we might lose the House reform of the tip credit.

  • The Engineering Technology SOC Distinction Must Be Made
Engineering Technologists are sometimes subjugated to the level of Technician in many organizations effectively reducing the salaries of the individuals. This has a profound effect on their livelihoods. This is especially apparent with young graduates. When this occurs it nullifies the junior and senior years of academia and the individuals are left with student loan payments that command a higher percentage of their paycheck. The individuals are paid at the Associate degree level rather than if they have achieved a Baccalaureate degree.

  • Businesses
Companies should not be allowed to terminate an employee at will. This is a huge cause of our outstanding unemployment statistics. Congress should pass a bill that protects folks from loosing there jobs because of the following reasons: -budgetary cuts -loosing business -discrimination Just like folks have insurance for cars, insurance to save folks job when a business is failing should be mandatory for every business. This would definitely lower the unemployment rate stats. Also, only a judge should be able to terminate a person's job. Afterall, without a job folks are unable to live. The reasons business provide for terminating a persons job is actually criminal. Companies have too much authority in this area.

  • Stand With Kelly Westlund - Demand a Fair Share Tax System!
Republicans propose cutting Social Security, Medicare, and Medicare benefits – all while lowering taxes on millionaires and giant corporations. The Congressional Progressive Caucus budget would instead invest in education and jobs -- paid for by asking millionaires and giant corporations to pay their fair share. Ahead of Tax Day, can you join Kelly Westlund and other progressive candidates across the nation in challenging their opponents to join them in supporting the Congressional Progressive Caucus budget?

  • ASK POPE FRANCIS TO STAND UP AGAINST INCOME INEQUALITY IN AMERICA
My name is Maria Elena Durazo. I was born into a poor immigrant family. We were farm workers who migrated with the crops, but we always carried with us our faith, our hope and our sense of obligation to those who had even less than we did. Since Cesar Chavez and the farmworker’s movement, I have dedicated myself to a simple idea-no one who works hard should stay poor. In January, the Los Angeles County Federation of Labor, AFL-CIO released a study by the Economic Roundtable that showed what many of us suspected – 46 percent of workers in Los Angeles are earning poverty level wages. That percentage translates into 810,000 breadwinners and their families trying to scrape by on poverty wages in one of the most expensive cities in the world. Imagine if 46 percent of the people in your city were being denied a basic freedom guaranteed under our Constitution? That would be considered a human rights crisis of immense proportions. It would be a crisis that would compel everyone to act. We live in a very rich country, yet working people in America are earning shamefully low wages denying basic human dignity. That’s why people of all faiths, from all over America are calling on Pope Francis to address the inequality of wealth plaguing our communities and to lift up the voices of millions of workers and their families.

  • Raise the Minimum Wage in Tennessee
Tennessee's wages have not kept up with inflation. The current minimum wage is $7.25, which is not enough for anyone to live on, especially those who are trying to raise a family. Let's ask our state officials to raise the minimum wage to $10.10.
