Amend Loan Forgiveness Cap in Student Loan Forgiveness Act of 2012The Student Loan Forgiveness Act of 2012 (H.R. 4170) effectively addresses many issues related to financial aid and college costs, including capping the interest rates on Federal Direct Loans at 3.4 percent, changing the term of repayment for those in the public service loan forgiveness program from 10 years to 5 years, and opening up eligibility for forgiveness for all student loan holders. This act places a cap of $45,520 on the amount of student loans eligible for forgiveness, which reasonably addresses the cost of financing an undergraduate education. Students entering the public service professions will most likely need to earn a graduate degree to qualify for an entry-level position. One possible solution to address this concern would be to increase the loan forgiveness cap for those participating in the public service loan forgiveness program to include the cost of financing a graduate education.10 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Jason Mallonee

"Return Prayer to Schools"Since we were "tricked" into taking God out of our schools nearly fifty years ago our schools have deteriorated to standards of low academic performance, high crime rates, and some areas report that only half of our students are graduating from high school. All of this while we know that education is the foundation of our American society. Is it a coincidence that our education system is steadily crumbling while we refuse to return to where we went astray? I don't think so! America, it is time to get Humble and be Courageous! Let's Return Prayer to our Schools! What do we have to loose? Or, should I say, "What else can we afford to loose"?100 of 200 SignaturesCreated by Herbert Boykin

MSAD 71 School Board: Keep Amy FinnenWe believe that there must be a creative solution to the budget cuts, other than cutting highly skilled and well loved teachers. We feel that Ms. Amy Finnen is an outstanding teacher and seniority should not come before the best interest of our children. We support Ms. Finnen keeping her job as a Williams Cone teacher and feel you should reconsider that proposal.2 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Jen Reich

No Bullying in the SchoolhouseBullying is used by school administrators to harrass teachers to "go somewhere else." It is not an issue of "improving teacher quality" but an issue of power. Many targets are quality teachers who are admired by colleagues and students. Bullying of adults causes the same psychological stresses as it does for students who are bullied; teachers cannot teach their best when they are being bullied. Bullying adults is not a good model for students; student learning is degraded. If we are to eliminate student bullying, adult bullying needs to stop first.29 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Richard Reuther

New Vista NEEDS Mark OlofsonNew Vista High School is not renewing Mark Olofson's contract. Mark has been a science teacher at NVHS for the last three years. However, he also wears many other hats. He's a student advisor, Robotics Club leader, director of the Shop Club, and the respected mentor to numerous students. Mark, in walking to the beat of a slightly different drum, brings a unique creativity to our school. New Vista is unabashedly different than the other regional high schools -- and Mark makes "different" cool/extraordinary/fun. Our high schools need as much of that as they can get. In short, Mark is the kind of teacher that New Vista High School really needs, and now the school is planning to not renew his contract. Please sign this petition to keep Mark a part of New Vista High School and a positive part of the student's lives.129 of 200 SignaturesCreated by Juliet Luna

Eliminate the banks from Student Loans SystemThe government loans low interest rate money to the banks and asks them to loan it to students. The money comes with a guarantee that if the student defaults the government will repay the banks in full. Even though there is no risk to the banks from this transaction, they profit by charging students high interest rates (up to 8%). Canada, by comparison, loans the money directly to students and offers an interest rate of approximately 1%. The Canadian system benefits the students and the taxpayers. The US system benefits the banks at the expense of the student and the taxpayers. The US system is unfair to both students and taxpayers. We urge you to pass legislation to eliminate the banks from the student loan system.13 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Dimitria Gatzia

Tufts: Accept Credits From Baha'i University in IranThe Baha'i Community of Iran, the largest religious minority of that country, has been undergoing persecution from the government for many years now. A plethora of methods have been used by the government of Iran in pursuance of their goals, including arbitrary arrest, unlawful trials, executions, confiscation of land, businesses, pensions, etc. The most recent of these has been the denial of the right to education to young Baha'is. Specifically, they are barred from universities simply because of their religious beliefs, and when they tried to initiate their own educational programs, they are attacked. This past May, the Baha'i Institute for Higher Education (BIHE)--a community sponsored institution that sought to offer an education to the young Baha'is who were otherwise denied entry into a university---was the latest victim. Professors and administrators have been incarcerated, material has been confiscated, and the institution has been closed. Their crime? To educate deprived youth who long for an education. Wouldn't we all be guilty? We at Tufts, who are enjoying this inalienable right, would do well to join the growing international academic community---students, professors, administrators---who have voiced their opposition to such injustice and are working to stop this oppression. We invite you to sign this petition so that Tufts University will join the many universities in the US and around the world who have voiced their concern and have taken the concrete steps of accepting BIHE credits so that those BIHE students who were not able to finish their education can have an opportunity to apply to Tufts to continue their academic careers.40 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Navid Shahidinejad

Save Douglass Academy Now"We want education!" This is why 50 high school students of Douglass Academy were suspended, after walking out of their classes to protest the situation that the all-boys school is in. The lack of consistent teachers and principle has resulted in the students passing time in the gym, library, or cafeteria with nothing to do. Signing this petition will make sure that the education system will not fail students in the future.67 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Juston William Jaco
