  • Vote "No" on SB 24 "Education Reform"
Governor Malloy's sponsored bill for education "reform" ignores decades of research and data on educational reform, and instead seeks a "fix" for something that is not broken: teacher certification, evaulation, and retention. True reformers should read Jaime Vollmer's book, Schools Can't Do It Alone.

  • Hold UC Trustees Accountable
The University of California Trustees are giving themselves outrageous increases in salaries and benefits (which are already outrageous) at a time when they are raising tuition for students. These decisions should be taken from the hands of the "Trustees" and left to the discretion of the voters.

  • Student Loan Forgiveness Act 2012
The State of NH has one of the highest (if not highest) student loan debts in the nation. On average, a student in NH finishes college with at least $30,000 in student loans. To make this situation worse....we are unable to find jobs at a rate where we can begin to make the payments back 6 months after graduating. Do we really want students to be discouraged at continuing their education because of this? I'd hate to think of the consequences of this happening. Lack of qualified workers in certain jobs would then create poorer productivity and thus affect our State's reputation.

  • Service Student Loan Repayment
Many young American citizens are struggling under the burden of debt accrued while earning a college degree, debts which they took on under the understanding that such a degree would improve their opportunities to find employment. The youth of this country have been disproportionately impacted by the economic downturn of 2008 and unemployment/underemployment still remains high. Many are postponing important life decisions like buying a home or starting a family due to the burden of student loans. We propose allowing these citizens to repay their loan through volunteer service hours in their own communities. Furthermore, we seek to retroactively increase the education award given to Americorps members by 30% in recognition of the service they gave to their nation.

  • Save OUR APS Schools!!
Erroll Davis, the superintendent for APS plans to close 13 schools. He came up with this proposal after parents of Mary Lin protested not to merge with a neighboring school. The cost will be 15 million to renovate Mary Lin, but he wants to close 13 schools which only costs 6.5 million to keep open. Why risk 13 schools for only ONE!!! This is classism and racism...Brown vs Board of Education.

  • Support the Student Loan Forgiveness Act of 2012
The amount of student debt across the nation is on the rise as the costs of higher education increase. The bill would allow fellow teachers and public service employees to ease the burden of student loans and focus their time on what really matters...public service. This would help teachers to focus on educating youth and providing more support for instructional materials.

  • Lies Won't Bring Back Teacher Jobs
On March 15, Americans for Prosperity and Civitas launched a costly PR campaign to distort the true impact of the 2011-2012 North Carolina state budget on our children and families. They made a $475,000 TV ad buy in major media markets, claiming that lawmakers somehow “protected teachers” by cutting funding for K-12 schools by $459 million dollars. What’s worse is they think you’ll believe them. But their misleading math simply doesn’t add up. No matter how they spin it, fewer education dollars ≠ more teachers. In fact, data from the NC Department of Public Instruction shows that so far 915 teacher jobs and 2,042 teaching assistant jobs have been lost due to budget cuts made by the legislature in 2011. That’s not protecting educators, it’s attacking them. What’s more, the TV ad fails to mention that lawmakers cut taxes for wealthy individuals and corporations to the tune of $200 million in the same state budget. Please sign this petition to tell Americans for Prosperity and Civitas to stop spreading their lies and worse, insulting the thousands of educators who’ve lost their jobs and everyday working families.
