• Give Our Kids the Arts AfterSchool they Deserve
Englewood Public School District's Children are not being given the best after-school care. Instead of parents having their children in an Arts Enrichment Program to increase their appreciation, knowledge, culture and learning capacity. Parents are forced to accept a program that simply baby sits kids until they are picked up instead of teaching them music, dance and other artistic mediums to enhance both the left and right sides of the brain which increases their ability to learn.

  • Saving Public Education in NH. Defeat HB1607
Using public funds to incentivize parents to withdraw their children from public schools and place them in private, religious and home schools is not only unconstitutional but would reduce the much needed funding already lacking in our current system.

  • Mrs.Obama: Please Stop USDA's Plan to Purchase "Pink Slime" for Our Nation's Schools!
Pink slime -- the ammonia-treated meat -- was recently rejected by fast food restaurants, e.g., McDonald's, Taco Bell & Burger King, but that is not stopping the USDA's plan on purchasing 7 million pounds for the nation's school lunch program! How can this possibly comply with your.own Let's Move! iniative?

  • Vote No on the Don't Say Gay Bill
The Tennessee State General Assembly is considering House Bill 0229 called the "Don't Say Gay" bill. The bill would make it harder for LGBT teens to approach their teachers, and it would make it harder for teachers to help their students out when it comes to the issue of bullying. Gov. Haslem is against the bill, and so is the Speaker of the House. Thus, the members of the House Education Committee has a chance to stop this bill, and thus kill this bill in committee.

  • Stop penalizing teachers
Did you know that when teachers retire they are penalized for having worked elsewhere? Did you know that their social security check is docked because of their contributions to the teacher pension system? They call this double-dipping. I call it punishment. How can we expect to attract scientists, computer engineers, mathematicians when teachers -- in addition to earning a pitiful salary -- will lose part of the social security benefits they had previously earned?

  • End the use of Pink Slime in Public School Lunches!
Since the Bush administration entered into this contract, I've been wondering what they will do with it. I can't believe the Obama administration would want this stuff to go into public school lunches! I understand they may be under contract but it was just another way that the Bush administration rewarded his cronies. Now it's time to end this toxic policy.

  • Regulate For-Profit Colleges
For-Profit Colleges are one of the leading causes of students with outstanding debt, which in turn becomes a problem for the government loaning out large sums of money to said students and thus increasing America's debt all together. For-Profit Colleges usually charge $50,000-$120,000 for their tuition. Which is quite outrageous considering that state and national colleges require significantly less money to operate. Colleges that are For-Profit should be regulated, there should be a cap on how much they are allowed to charge for tuition.

  • Eliminate VAM from teacher evaluation!
Research shows that VMAs do not improve student achievement. Yet, teachers are being blackballed and placed under duress to approve an evaluation that includes the value-added test score ratings of their students' performances on standardized tests. Ignoring the research, NYS will spend millions of dollars on an inaccurate and inequitable system.

  • We Believe In Public Education
Our elected leaders have abandoned public education. They have made significant and ever increasing funding cuts over the passed five years. Their financial priorities reflect their values. I still believe that an education that truly prepares you is a basic right and should be available to all. In order to meet the ever increasing needs of society educators need to have a manageable amount of resources available to them. Please allow our schools to be successful by providing us: enough teachers, enough time to plan, enough supplies, and a realistic curriculum.
