  • House GOP: Do not repeal the Endangered Species Act
The Endangered Species Act is supported by 9 out of 10 U.S. voters, has a 99% success rate, and has prevented hundreds of species from going extinct in the 43 years it's been on the books. Despite this, Congressman Rob Bishop is using his role as Chair of the House Natural Resources Committee to take aim at this bedrock conservation law. He recently told a news outlet that he wants to "repeal and replace" the law and that lawmakers may "simply have to start over again." This reckless assault on the Endangered Species Act threatens wildlife recovery at a time when the planet is already amidst what scientists call the sixth great extinction event. Tell Chairman Rob Bishop to abandon his misguided and dangerous attempts to "repeal and replace" the Endangered Species Act. http://www.eenews.net/eedaily/2016/12/09/stories/1060046928

  • National Wildlife Federation: Stop Donald Trump's dangerous anti-environment agenda
Republican presidential nominee and so-called "president-elect" Donald Trump wants to harm our environment with his own dangerous anti-environment agenda. He wants to tear down forests for housing and construction development just like he wants to ban Muslims from entering the United States. Also, Donald Trump would threaten endangered species by forcing them to go extinct like dinosaurs by having them killed by hunters. We want the National Wildlife Federation to stop Donald Trump and his dangerous anti-environment agenda and save our forests, habitats, swamps and endangered species.

  • No more plastic bags
I bring my own reusable bags to the grocery store. Yet, despite my personal efforts to reduce my own pollution, the grocery store employees still have to use some plastic bags for my purchases. People either don't realize that they themselves have an impact on the health of our environment or they out right deny the fact. Banning plastic bags is a simple step on the road to a sustainable future. If not now, when?

  • Stop NECFuture's and the FRA's railway re-routing plan
This has been kept secret until very recently and we now have only days to stop this. Follow the link below for more detailed information on the project, including maps of the proposed route, and the effects it will have on the local community and our environment. It's should also be noted that Connecticut's government officials called this plan "dead on arrival" yet Senator Reed thinks this a great idea for "South County" and Rhode Island. http://charlestowncitizens.org/2016/12/18/christmas-surprise-from-fra/ A quote from the CharlestownCitizens.org article: "One week before Christmas the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) has released their Tier 1 Final Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) to straighten the tracks of the Northeast Corridor over the next several decades. The impacted communities have just 30 days to respond. The FRA estimates the cost of its proposal at nearly $130 billion, plus an additional $2 billion a year to operate. The states will be expected to pay part of this cost. It is important to note that the plan cannot happen without approval from the state of Rhode Island. The new path of the rail lines would cut off an estimated 45 minutes of travel time between New York and Boston by straightening out curves that currently exist in the rail lines. Some of this curviness is in Charlestown where the rails were originally built to serve the mill towns or follow natural features. The train currently spends at most about 5 minutes traveling through Charlestown. It’s not known how many minutes or seconds of the upgrade depend on the straightening in Charlestown. The proposal calls for rerouting the rails through the Grills Preserve in Westerly, rerouting in the Burdickville Rd. Area in Charlestown, cutting straight through the Frances C. Carter Memorial Preserve, then transecting the Amos Green Farm, Columbia Heights, and Kenyon. The new rail lines would rejoin the old rail bed in the Great Swamp Management Area in South Kingstown where a third rail would be added to increase the railroad width by 50%. Wetlands would be filled in Burlingame and the Great Swamp Management Areas. Blasting and trenching would be needed to get through hills and keep the train at a steady elevation. A small area of Narragansett Tribal Land will also likely have wetlands filled in the Indian Cedar Swamp. There would likely be one or more temporary staging areas in the Great Swamp in South Kingstown to facilitate development of a third rail. Public and private property is effected, including many homes along the new rail path that would have to be removed." Information on the project can also be found at NECFuture.com

  • Tell Bronx NYC Council Members to Support Waste Equity Bill Now!
We urge you to support Intro 495, a.k.a. The Waste Equity Bill, which seeks to unburden communities in The Bronx, Brooklyn, and Queens that handle an unfair 80% of NYC's garbage. Each borough needs to take care of their fair share and the South Bronx shouldn't be saddled with over 30% of the city's garbage. We are already suffering an epidemic crisis with the highest rates of asthma in the nation. This city's economics must not continue to be prioritized over the health of our communities. Not only do we deserve better from our elected officials trusted with our health and environment, but we demand better.

  • Nevada: Stand up for Science
This week, we went toe-to-toe with Trump over his intimidation of government scientists -- and Trump backed down. • CLIMATE CHANGE DOUBTER TRUMP THREATENS THE WORLD WITH GLOBAL WARMING
I feel betrayed by Donald J. Trump's brazen theft of the presidency with the aid of Russian hackers with the sole purpose of increasing his holdings, which may result in a dangerously conservative replacement being appointed upon his inevitable impeachment. United States citizens deserve progress, not punishment.

  • Keep Rocky Flats Wildlife Refuge Closed: Save Money, Prevent Harm
After completion of the Superfund cleanup of the Rocky Flats industrial area, the Department of Energy transferred about 7 square miles of land to U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service (FWS) to operate as a Wildlife Refuge. The Refuge surrounds 2 square miles of land that are still on the Superfund list of the most contaminated places in the country. Highly toxic radioactive plutonium in the environment of this Superfund site will make its way onto the Refuge where it can be readily inhaled, the worst way to be exposed to plutonium. FWS is now curtailing activities at Refuges in western states due to lack of funds. By keeping the Rocky Flats Refuge closed to the public, FWS can prevent harm from exposure to plutonium and also save money .

  • Protect DOE employees from a witchhunt
The Trump transition team has sent a questionnaire to Dept. of Energy employees asking about their involvement in climate change issues. They need support to prevent climate science from being overrun by political considerations. This affects all of us! Climate change is acknowledged as a real issue by Fortune 500 companies, insurance companies, states and local governments (see Miami Beach), all of whom are making plans to deal with it. We should not get rid of our information assets on this topic.
