• Tell Maryland Legislators: Fracking Moratorium Now!
With Maryland’s new governor, Larry Hogan, saying he supports moving forward with fracking for gas in our state -- and with mounting evidence of the threat to our health -- we don’t have a moment to lose. Ask your state legislators to protect Maryland residents by passing a long-term moratorium on fracking! The Protect Our Health and Communities Act (HB 449/SB 409), recently introduced in the Maryland General Assembly with over 45 co-sponsors, would put a hold on drilling in Maryland. The bill would provide time for long-term health studies on fracking to be conducted, so that we fully understand the risks before deciding to subject Maryland residents to a public health experiment. Call on your legislators to act in 2015 -- before the gas industry is allowed to rush in and cause potentially irreversible harm to our air, water, soil and health.

  • Support BIG investment in infrastructure jobs
The cost of infrastructure for renewable energy is at an all-time low and dropping steadily. We have a chance of meeting the planetary goal of cutting our greenhouse gases by 8 to 10% per year beginning NOW if we want a 50/50 chance of keeping below a rise in temperature of 2 degrees Celsius. What cleaner way to put rural New Mexicans back to work?

  • Eastbridge Stapleton Gas Station
Forest City, King Soopers and The City Council have not been effective in addressing this issue. No community outreach has been undertaken and the gas station remains in the plans.

  • People of Earth- Stand Up and Demand Your 10 Basic, Universal, Economic and Environmental Rights!
According to the scientific community, we do not have much time left to sort out our environmental practices, so that the earth can support the life that is currently here. However, if we act NOW, we can prevent the extinction of approximately 200 species a day, tens of thousands of human deaths everyday from poverty, lift people out of crippling poverty in richer countries, as well as in 'developing nations', and ensure that our earth can support the life that is on it. We, as humanity on this earth, claim these ten basic, universal birthrights for everyone who so chooses: The right to: *sustainable, nutritious food *sustainable clean water *sanitation *sustainable shelter *sustainable clothing *healthcare *education *access to sustainable transportation *sustainable energy *an earth that can support the life on it- meaning, in addition to sustainable energy, that no more unnecessary consumer goods are produced that are not environmentally sustainable- recyclable, etc. That's 10 basic universal rights. If humanity could come together and agree upon those rights, and then agree on effective action that we can take in order to ensure those rights (ideally starting with a peaceful, international day of public protest), it would be revolutionary. It would change our world for the better so incredibly drastically- we would have economic rights, which would probably be delivered through a universal basic income (that's how we would provide for the basic rights that I outlined), and we would have a healthy earth with sane environmental laws.

  • SAVE PARADISE DON'T PUT UP A PARKING LOT
Glynn County government has long denied residents adequate means of finding out about applications for development that go before the Island Planning Commission. The IPC, whose members are appointed by the Glynn County Board of Governors, routinely approves high-density development with inadequate traffic studies and ill-advised variances to established county ordinances. The welfare and privacy of residents is ignored, and their quality of life is severely impacted, as small shaded island roads are burdened with increasingly heavy traffic. We demand that Glynn County Government use the time provided by the moratorium on all pending applications for development and all future applications until such time as a Tree ordinance is created, and outdated County ordinances have been updated to serve the public interest. Moreover, we demand that the GCC and the IPC revise their means of advertising development applications and zoning changes such that the entire population of Glynn County is alerted when such applications come within their purview. We the people of Glynn County demand to be informed in advance whenever any developer or any County department proposes to clear-cut land, cut marsh buffers, or cut down any trees whether ancient Live Oaks or other hardwood species. We the people demand that the public shall be consulted and their approval secured before another roundabout is built. We demand that the Glynn County Board of Commissioners shall not pave parking lots to the detriment of our magnificent beaches and that beach parking will be forever free to the public.

  • Ban Oil Trains in Philadelphia
Last weekend another train carrying crude oil derailed in South Philadelphia, within a mile of thousands of homes. Just like last year, when a train derailed off the tracks in Philly and dangled over I-76, the city’s residents got lucky and there was no significant damage and no one was hurt. The National Safety Review Board has recommended these highly explosive oil trains avoid highly populated areas and rolling by schools, hospitals, and playgrounds. Unfortunately, these trains are filled with Bakken crude oil, a highly combustible substance, and they have a lengthy track record of horrendous accidents and near misses. Just this week, an oil train crashed in West Virginia with the explosion sending flames shooting 300 feet in the air and requiring the evacuation of thousands of people. A disaster in Quebec in 2013 cost 47 people their lives. Throughout Pennsylvania and across the nation, there have been dozens of oil train accidents and close calls in the last few years. This disaster is a clear reminder that we need to get off oil. In the meantime though, we should ban these oil trains from traveling through our cities, before it is too late.

  • Thank Governor Wolf for reinstating the ban on leasing state parks and forests for fracking
Pennsylvanians from all walks of life and all political affiliations called on Tom Wolf to protect our parks and forests from fracking if elected. He heard their voices and has undone ex-Gov. Corbett's attacks on our precious wild lands, reinstating a moratorium against the further leasing of park and forestlands for fracking. That means everywhere from Ricketts Glen to Ohiopyle to hundreds of thousands of acres of state forests are now off limits to gas drilling. Unfortunately, Governor Wolf’s action is already being attacked by the drilling industry. The Marcellus Shale Coalition called it "deeply misguided and purely political". They may not like the decision—but this is how democracy works. Tens of thousands of Pennsylvanians called for these protections and now the Governor is taking action. That’s why he needs to know how much the people of Pennsylvania appreciate him standing up for our state parks and forests and the beginning of his term.

  • Tell Portland Mayor Hales: No Propane Terminal!
Portland was recently recognized by the White House as a climate leader. The proposed Pembina propane terminal would dramatically increase greenhouse gas emissions, making a mockery of Portland's climate action plan while leaving neighbors vulnerable to an explosion during a predicted major earthquake. Before the next hearing on June 4, 2015, from 3:00-7:00 pm at Portland City Hall, let Portland Mayor Charlie Hales know: "The rest of the world needs Portland to lead by example and say 'No!' to Pembina and other fossil fuel infrastructure."

  • Label GMO Food in New York!
Like the majority of Americans, New Yorkers want to know what is in the food we're eating and feeding our families. But right now, genetically engineered (GMO) food isn't labeled, so it's hard to make informed decisions about the food we eat. Whether we want to avoid GMOs for environmental, ethical, religious or other reasons, without labels there is no clear way to know whether a food contains GMO ingredients. We label calories, fat and sodium, so why not GMOs? Please urge your legislator to support our right to know by co-sponsoring the Assembly bill to require the labeling of GMO foods.

  • Save our Avian Life from PFOA/TEFLON Toxicity
Products containing PFOA or any of its derivatives have proven to be deadly to avian life and linked to human cancers. Thousands, perhaps millions of domestic birds have suffered horrific, suffocating deaths due to PFOA toxicity. On 01/11/2015 I witnessed my three parrots suffocate in their own blood after using a product made with PFOA or its derivative. Stop poisoining our innocent avian life. We, the consumers demand to be WARNED of the presence of such toxic chemical in any product sold to us.

  • Stand with the Lummi Nation against Coal Exports!
Exporting coal off the coast of Washington is a bad idea, period. But right now, there’s a proposal on the table to build a coal export terminal in the Salish Sea. Not only would this terminal threaten our health and contribute to climate change, it would also threaten fisheries that the Lummi Nation have used for over a thousand years. Earlier this month, the Lummi sent a powerful message to the Army Corps of Engineers, asking them to deny the permit and honor the Lummi’s treaty rights. We stand with the Lummi Nation and join them in asking the Army Corps to honor these treaty rights and stop this destructive project. Please email your representatives today and ask them to call on the Army Corps to oppose this project.
