• Protection for the Elderly from Covid
Has this virus not been downplayed and kept a secret from the American people we could have kept it from spreading like wildfire across our nation. The virus found my Father in his own home where he was supposed to be safe. My Father had COPD & Rhuemetiod Arthritis and was 77 years young. He took good care of himself & despite his underlying conditions was in very good health. My father contracted Covid in his own home and spent 6 long weeks fighting for his life in the ICU department at the hospital alone. He died. He may be nobody to Donald Trump BUT TO ME HE WAS MY WORLD. Mask wearing and social distancing must be taken seriously and enforced to the fullest extent in order to stop this virus from claiming more lives. A caring & strong leader would set the example and vocalize the severity of this virus so that people are not letting their guards down and a lot of American’s lives can be saved. I want to do this to honor my Daddy who should have been protected!!!

  • SAVE THE HISTORIC FEBREY-LOTHROP-ROUSE ESTATE!
The Febrey-Lothrop-Rouse estate is a unique, large privately held property in Arlington. It has a long and significant history, dating back to the Febrey family farm and house, built in 1855. The Febrey family was one of the most prestigious and well-known in the D.C. area at that time. It was the location of a large encampment for thousands of Union Soldiers during the Civil War, 1861-65. The estate was subsequently owned by Alvin Lothrop, a co-founder/owner of the Woodward-Lothrop Department Store chain. The last owner was Randolph Rouse who was married to Audrey Meadows, a world famous actress in the 1950s and 60s. The property was also once owned by TWA Airlines, which was owned by Howard Hughes, who occasionally stayed at the property. It is important that Arlington protect and preserve such a unique, undeniably historic property for public access. This is a once-in-forever opportunity to take a stand for historic preservation in Arlington County.

  • Stop Arctic Drilling, Save Polar Bears!
The Southern Beaufort Sea polar bear population is the world's most imperiled, with as few as 900 individuals. The Arctic Refuge's coastal plain is vital to its survival. Oil and gas development there could eradicate polar bears from the region. This refuge is America's largest remaining stretch of pristine wilderness. If industry is allowed to turn the Arctic Refuge into an oilfield, exacerbating the climate crisis and wildlife extinction crisis, this rare and wild landscape will be forever scarred. The high cost to polar bears and the sensitive Arctic Refuge ecosystem just isn't worth it. The federal government must not allow harm to come to polar bears while looking for oil that Americans don't want the oil industry drilling for anyway. Stand up for the Arctic Refuge, polar bears and our climate by signing the petition to oppose oil and gas leasing in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.

  • Tell Biden: Pick Rep. Deb Haaland for Interior Secretary
Joe Biden has a huge opportunity to choose a progressive champion on climate action and a Native American leader to a crucial Cabinet post: Representative Deb Haaland of New Mexico. Representative Haaland would be the first Native American Secretary of the Interior -- with the power to end fossil fuel extraction on public lands, return land to Indigenous stewardship, and start implementing a Green New Deal. The Department of the Interior oversees the Bureau of Indian Affairs, and oversees oil and gas leases on federal land. It manages more than 500 million acres of American land, including the National Park System. Haaland has served as a tribal administrator, and in Congress serves as vice-chair of the Committee on Natural Resources -- experience that makes her ready to lead the Department of the Interior. The Department of the Interior has never had a Native American lead it. After centuries of oppression at the hands of the federal government, including the Department of the Interior, it’s long past time for an enrolled tribal member to lead this crucial agency. Over 150 tribal leaders, Democratic and Republican senators, and environmental groups have called for her to get the post. But the Biden transition team is hedging. Tell them to pick Rep. Deb Haaland for Interior Secretary!

  • We Reject the Increase in Proposed Elgin Police Department Budget for 2021
The nearly 8% or $3 million + increase in the Elgin Police Department budget is excessive. This money should be reallocated to support community based services such as the creation of an Elgin Health and Human Services Department that would include mental health, addiction treatment, housing, food distribution, nutrition, education, recreation, job development, public transportation, accessibility to resources, infrastructure, etc. The Elgin Police Department’s proposed budget for 2021 is well over $51 million. This is absurd. Crime statistics are trending down. The community needs expanded social services not weaponized control. Over policing is a clear manifestation of systemic and structural racism. The community needs to hold the City Council, City Manager and Mayor accountable to prioritize community well being with investment in basic human dignity and the expansion of systems of social justice.

  • Solar & Farming
The proposed draft code is drafted in a manner that treats solar as a pariah, instead of helping to foster a positive relationship between agriculture, the environment, solar and the community. A well drafted solar code can help ensure that farmers and the community can benefit from additional sources of income, new agriculture, soil preservation and protection from irreversible permanent development. Farmland that hosts solar will not be sold for single family homes The Town of Moreau's 2014 farmland protection plan, projects the population in the R-5 zone could increase by 40% between 2010 and 2050. The report projected increase is the equivalent of 135 new homes. The plan also projected that the district would lose 770 acres to housing and an additional 800 acres for utilities and roads to serve the new residential development. In one scenario it was determined that a total of 5,028 new single-family dwelling units could be constructed at full buildout. A total of 1,561 could be built within the Town’s agricultural zoning districts. Within the R-5 zoning district, approximately 770 single-family homes could be built. With five (5) acre minimum zoning requirements, this would equal 3,850 acres of new residential parcels. Solar panels don’t require town services, they don’t go to school and they never call the police. Solar panels don’t require new roads or road maintenance by the town. Well designed solar farms allow agriculture to exist between the panels. Solar is a temporary land use unlike other forms of permanent development.

  • Stop the fracked gas export terminal in the Delaware River
Last week, the Natural Resources Defense Council found that the current Gibbstown site is out of compliance with federal, state, and DRBC rules governing pollution of the Delaware River from PCBs. The Gibbstown facility would be built on the former Dupont-Chemours-Repauno chemical site, which has historically served as one of the top 10 biggest PCB loading point-source facilities in the Delaware Estuary. PCBs are present on the land of the proposed Gibbstown facility as well as in the abutting Delaware River sediments. If the project were to be approved at Wednesday’s meeting, it would violate the Clean Water Act’s “Total Maximum Daily Load” program that establishes the maximum amount of toxic PCBs allowed to enter the section of the Delaware River where this project would be located. New Fortress Energy and its subsidiary Delaware River Partners have failed under the Clean Water Act to put in place an enforceable plan to prevent PCBs from seeping into the River -- despite a DRBC directive to do so. As you know, PCBs are a toxic chemical and known human carcinogens -- one of only a handful of chemicals ever banned in the United States. Releasing PCBs is an environmental and public health threat. Consumption of PCBs has been linked to adverse impacts on reproductive, immune, and endocrine systems, and can be especially dangerous to pregnant women and their unborn children. The fact that the proposal is in violation of the strict water quality laws and regulations for toxic PCBs underscores that the review by the Delaware River Basin Commision has been inadequate. The current review has also failed to sufficiently consider public safety issues, harm to endangered species in the river, and the climate change impacts. Furthermore, we believe that it is critical that you delay any decision until President-elect Biden’s Administration has the opportunity to have his representatives from the Army Corps of Engineers review this project. The project would be the first in the country of this size to transport highly-explosive liquified gas by trucks and trains through densely populated areas in Pennsylvania and New Jersey and along the Delaware River corridor. This component of the project stems in no small part from the Trump Administration’s rule to rush approval of transporting highly-explosive liquefied gas by rail. Currently, all four of your State Attorneys General are legally challenging the Trump Administration’s rule and it could be struck down in court. It would defy all logic to approve the Gibbstown export facility while your own State Attorneys General seek to overturn how the liquified fracked gas would be transported. The Biden administration will have to deal with the consequences of the decision you are facing and should be afforded the opportunity to review the project. Given that he will assume office in one month, it is common sense to wait -- and not leave him with a likely Clean Water Act lawsuit and a polluting project that you have approved. Finally, since the DRBC’s last meeting in September, the Irish High Court struck down all the permits for New Fortress Energy to import the gas from Gibbstown to Ireland. There is no urgency for you to make this decision on Wednesday. Please do not approve a project that will violate the Clean Water Act and reverse decades of work to eliminate PCB pollution in the Delaware River. Protecting this river, a crucial resource and the drinking water for over 15 million people, is a sacred duty that deserves the greatest possible care.

  • Convert White House Tennis Court to Pickleball Courts
Pickleball is ‘America’s Fastest Growing Sport’ and one that is enjoyed by players of all ages and abilities, spread by the grassroots enthusiasm of its participants. It is a sport more appropriate to the “People’s House” than Tennis, which developed under the aristocratic patronage of the Royalty of both England and France. Pickleball originated in the United States, created through old-fashioned American ingenuity and creativity when a planned family badminton game had to be cancelled due to the lack of correct equipment. While the large, space-hungry tennis court demands a high level of athletic conditioning, Pickleball is played on a much smaller court which allows for more efficient use of public land (in parks nationwide as well as in the White House lawn) and can be effectively played by a much broader spectrum of America’s casual athletes. Pickleball is also a much more community-based, social sport than tennis, encouraging people of all backgrounds to find common cause and enjoyment together. Changing the White House tennis court to multiple Pickleball courts would be an inspiration to increased fitness achievable by all Americans, as well as a of symbol both American ingenuity and the effective and efficient use of our public lands.

  • Biden: Immediately halt Trump's border wall. #NotAnotherFoot
Right now, the US government is dynamiting our borderlands, destroying ecosystems, violating sacred native territories, and carving a path of destruction through our US border cities. Joe Biden can stop all of this immediately, fulfilling his campaign promise that "There will not be another foot of wall constructed on my administration." (8/5/2020) Despite being defeated, Trump ignored the election results and has continued building the wall at at warp speed, setting the stage for wall construction to continue well into the Biden administration. It can only be stopped if Biden issues an Executive Order. Your signature will be delivered to members of the Biden/Harris team, and help save countless communities under attack. Your signatures will... HALT THE DESTRUCTION: The wall is not a fence. It is 3-story-tall prison-style barrier (more than twice the height of the Berlin Wall) surrounded by a militarized security zone the width of a football field. It has lasting, devastating impacts on every US community in which it is built. It destroys nature ecosystems and sacred native sites. For example, in just a single US city that the wall would impact, Laredo, TX the wall will carve a path of destruction through over 1000 people's homes, public parks, and even an orphanage run by nuns. https://bit.ly/3hJq3sN SAVE BILLIONS, SAVE LIVES: Halting wall construction and tearing it down would save the US government billions of dollars that can be devoted to the real emergency needs of our country, like Covid relief. The wall costs between $20-30 million for every single mile, which we can instead use to fund housing, education, health care and other real needs. For example, just a single mile of wall can fund over 300,000 Covid vaccine doses. https://bit.ly/2WtkHrX STOP FUELING VIOLENT RACISM: For Trump's most violent supporters, the wall is their single greatest symbol of inspiration, one that fuels violent racist attacks across the country. "Build The Wall!" has become a chant at MAGA rallies in Washington DC, and a slur shouted during assaults on people of color in states as far away from the border as Michigan and Pennsylvania. The wall is a national issue. Stopping the wall helps shut down this engine of racism. https://bit.ly/2WtkHrX END THE FAKE "EMERGENCY": There is no "national emergency" happening on the border. FBI statistics show border cities are among the safest in the United States. The wall is based on a lie, and serves no actual security purpose on the border. Data: https://bit.ly/37ytD5u RESTORE EQUAL RIGHTS: To build the wall, Trump has been seizing public and private lands of thousands of US citizens, and tossing aside over 40 federal laws like the Clean Water Act. As a result, people who live on the border have fewer constitutional rights than those who live in the rest of the US. Help restore the rights of border citizens. STOP THE CORRUPTION: The wall is a feeding frenzy for corrupt contractors, putting billions of dollars of taxpayer handouts directly in the hands of Trump cronies, some of whom are right now under federal investigation for fraud. You can help end this corrupt spending spree. https://bit.ly/34v8es4 Tell Biden to immediately halt all construction and cancel all funding for this harmful and wasteful wall.

These fish help control populations of pan fish that are destroying other fish’s reproduction. Fish such as the white perch eat bass fry and deplete the population. Tiger musky are apex predators integral to keeping a balance in their waterways. These fish cohabitate with pike populations and bring anglers to the area as a very desired sport fish.
