It directly affects myself, every American Citizen and People Around The World. Environment, Soil, Farmers, Water and Humans are at a High Risk from the GMO seeds and Pesticides and Herbicides Monsanto uses which based on Monsanto's Claim that it will promote High Yields and Less Pesticides. That is Not True, since Monsanto's GMO Round Up Ready seeds, they have not produced Higher Yields and have continually needed to use More Pesticides And Stronger More Dangerous Pesticides because these toxic seeds have proven to Not Benefit Higher Yields and have proven that these Toxic Seeds No Longer respond to Round Up pesticides but now need More Deadly and More Toxic Pesticides then previous applied. These Toxic Pesticides and Herbicides are even more Dangerous to Humans and Our Environment providing Less Yields at an alarming toll on Our Soils, Contaminating and Rendering Useless Our Precious Land Cannot Tolerate. The Waukegan coal plant is the largest emitter of sulfur dioxide, mercury and carbon dioxide pollution in all of Lake County, contributing to 34 premature deaths and 570 asthma attacks every year. Midwest Generation sells the power it produces on the open market out of state and Lake County residents are left with the pollution and health costs. It's time to move Waukegan beyond coal and create new opportunities for cleaner, healthier businesses in the community.

Hydrofracking creates millions of gallons of wastewater, or "produced" water. It has been dumped into retention basins, concrete structures, etc. Pennsylvania is running out of room to get rid of the water, they want to process it in NJ wastewater treatment plants (sewage plants). The produced water has chemicals that are not disclosed, so how can a plant process them, and treat them, and then put into our waterways which is done with other treated sewage? Our plants have lists of chemicals that they can and cannot treat. The NJ Legislature voted almost unanimously to prohibit frack wastewater from NJ; the Gov vetoed it; and now various groups in NJ are working to over-ride the veto.

The "Bradley Bill," SB 1715, was passed out of Executive Committee (11-0) to the legislature on Tuesday, May 21st. It will be "fast tracked" for a vote by the full body, and if passed, will be signed by Governor Quinn. We all know there is potential for an accident which could taint our last and best supply of water in this region, the Mahomet Aquifer. An alternative bill, HB 3086, contains a two-year moratorium on fracking and calls for further study. With all the unknowns, why isn't that a better choice?

Mississippi Sand LLC hopes to make LaSalle County into a kind of frac sand mecca. And I, like so many citizens of my area, am terrified of what is in store for us! Mississippi Sand has laid claim to our world-renowned Starved Rock State Park, where they hope to blast apart the St. Peter sandstone, and mine for up to 40 years. Mississippi Sand is currently in operation with Archer Daniels Midland Co. and American River Transporation, who will be responsible for barge fleeting the silica. The Sierra Club, Prairie Rivers Network, and Openlands are presently embroiled in a lawsuit to challenge Mississippi Sand's mining permit. We must support them and stop MS from opening up the proposed pit!

Fracking is a harmful practice with long-term problems. Drilling for more oil and natural gas does not change our dependence on fossil fuels. Mankind is changing the climate and now is a time to stop the damage by saying no to fracking.
