Don't Spoil Greenway; Use Alternate Elec. Supply MethodAn above ground 69 KV power line (approximately 2 miles long) is being proposed run alongside the Black Oak Ridge Conservation Easement (BORCE), the East Fork Natural Area (EFNA) and the North Boundary Greenway. The above ground power line right of way (50 feet wide) will require over a mile of forested land on the East Fork Natural Area and along the North Boundary Greenway and BORCE to be cleared. Another mile of power line will run along the North Boundary Greenway and BORCE.72 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Sandra K. Goss

Charge a fee for plastic bags - Littleton25% of the world's population now lives in areas with bans or fees on plastic bags. We do not live in such a place at this moment. Sadly, Plastic bags aren't biodegrade, they photodegrade - breaking down into smaller and smaller toxic bits contaminating soil and waterways and entering the food web when animals accidentally ingest them. A plastic bag can take between 400 to 1,000 years to break down in the environment. Plastic bags cause over 100,000 sea turtle and other marine animal deaths every year when animals mistake them for food. Plastic bags are among the 12 items of debris most often found in coastal cleanups, according to the nonprofit Center for Marine Conservation. Nearly 90% of the debris in our oceans is plastic.6 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Geri Lopez

Tell Home Depot and Lowe’s to stop selling bee-killing pesticidesBees are essential for one out of three bites of food we eat. But last winter, beekeepers reported losses of 50-70 percent of their hives -- the worst year yet since the global bee die-off began! A growing body of scientific evidence is pointing to neonicotinoids (neonics) as the key factor in this crisis and the European Union has just imposed a two year ban on these toxic pesticides. These neonics are everywhere -- in commercial agriculture, on the shelf of your local garden stores, and in the plants and seeds we buy from nurseries. Bee part of the solution! Tell Home Depot, Lowe’s and others to stop selling neonics.318 of 400 SignaturesCreated by Peter Stocker

Defend science-based food regulationThe most fundamental goal of society is to produce safe, affordable, sustainable food. The challenges to this are great and growing with the human population, climate change, and loss of farmland. An amalgam of corporate and ideological interests oppose biotechnology despite its spotless safety record, remarkable benefits to the environment, and its contributions to keeping food affordable. Working to the benefit of these special interests, legislators are trying to rewrite FDA regulations so that warning labels must be placed on food made from crops improved using biotechnology, even if the food contents are indistinguishable from food made without biotechnology.1,038 of 2,000 SignaturesCreated by Steven Briggs

Phase-out Plastic Bags in California Now - Pass SB 405 Authored by Senator Alex PadillaSign our petition asking the California Legislature to vote for the plastic bag ban bill (SB 405) authored by Senator Alex Padilla. Each year Californians use more than 14 billion single-use plastic bags. They are blight on our communities, fill our landfills, clog inland waterways, litter our beaches and mountains, and kill thousands of fish, marine mammals and seabirds. Join our coalition of environmental and business groups and sign the petition today! Supporters include: Sierra Club, NRDC, Surfrider, Clean Water Action, Heal the Bay, Planning & Conservation League and Californians Against Waste.2,833 of 3,000 SignaturesCreated by Senator Alex Padilla

Stop Keystone XL/FrackingThe Keystone pipeline and the oil extraction process is an extremely dirty and environmentally damaging way of removing oil. Fracking processes in general use excessive amounts of water that is permanently ruined by adding toxic chemicals necessary to separate the oil from other materials in the ground. Furthermore ground water sources are also polluted during this invasive process of oil extraction which contributes substantially to the pollution of our atmosphere.4 of 100 SignaturesCreated by karen wilder

Keystone oil pipelineI am asking the administration’s to make progress on climate and whether. For the sake of our children and our future, we must do more to combat climate change.I hope the president turns down the Keystone XL oil pipeline. We must cut in half the energy wasted by our homes and businesses.I am asking Congress to develop an economy-wide emissions reduction program to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, reduce the carbon pollution that threatens our health and our climate. Most important, it’s to develop new plan who will produce the wind turbines and solar panels and develop the alternative fuels to power the future.3 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Milan Franeta

CO2 is up to 400: Methane must come down to 1250In the world of climate, what goes up doesn’t always easily come back down. That’s true of atmospheric CO2 levels, and while we are struggling to control CO2, we must also immediately cut methane and black carbon to help preserve the climate we have for the coming decades. As James Hansen, perhaps the world’s most famous climate scientist, has said, “Expected difficulties in slowing the growth rate of CO2 and eventually stabilizing atmospheric CO2 amount make the non-CO2 (climate factors) all the more important.” We agree, and we implore our leaders to immediately set more ambitious targets for methane and black carbon. Methane could be brought down globally to 1250ppb in two decades. This could probably be achieved without any U.S. legislation at all, but with a global effort, under U.S. leadership, to restructure, expedite and greatly strengthen already existing programs at UNEP (United Nations Environment Programme) and elsewhere.319 of 400 SignaturesCreated by Nathan Currier, founder, 1250now.org
