No Polystyrene Pledge for Individuals"Be the change you want to see in the world" – Ghandi Please sign this pledge to go polystyrene-free for your foodservice ware use. Polystyrene (plastic resin #6 code, aka styrofoam) is made from styrene, a dangerous chemical. It should not be used for cups, plates, forks, and take-out containers. Please note that styrofoam is just one form of polystyrene. Polystyrene can also be a clear plastic as well as colored. Look for the resin #6 code! Stop Wasteful Styrofoam Trays in Our SchoolMontgomery County Public Schools (MD) use disposable styrofoam lunch trays. The Young Activist Club has researched and identified problems with styrofoam (resin #6, polystyrene), including that it is made from styrene, a carcinogen that can leach into food. The Club has raised more than $10,000 to pilot a tray washing project in one local county school, Piney Branch Elementary School. The pilot will assess whether the extra labor and water costs of washing trays can be offset by the costs of perpetually buying single-use disposable trays. But the local School Board and Superintendent have rejected the students' idea. Please help us convince the Superintendent to support this student-led initiative, which has the potential to save the public school district money at a time when it most needs it.67 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Brenda Platt

Ban Non Food Grade Substance In Colorado CannabisDispensaries and other large scale grow operations in the state of Colorado work on economies of scale. The law states that Dispensaries must provide their own cannabis for retail. To keep costs down Dispensaries often use agricultural pesticides and other non food grade substances. At this time there is no regulation and these substances are being transfered directly to the consumer. GET PESTICIDES OUT OF OUR MEDICINE Thank you.14 of 100 SignaturesCreated by brian stratton

Protect the Delaware River from dangerous gas drillingWe have heard that the agency that is charged with protecting the Delaware River (the Delaware River Basin Commission, or “DRBC”) will meet again soon to consider allowing harmful gas drilling near the river—drilling that has left a trail of air and water pollution, toxic waste and a legacy of environmental destruction in its wake all across nearby Pennsylvania. We can’t allow this track record of pollution anywhere near our great Delaware River. We need to make sure that the DRBC hasn’t forgotten about the overwhelming opposition to such a risky and shortsighted proposal—and that they must protect the Delaware River.162 of 200 SignaturesCreated by Margie Alt

NY Times: Say it ain't so!The New York Times, one of the most circulated and widely read news outlets, announced it is dismantling its environmental reporting desk and assigning the 7 reporters and 2 editors to other departments. With all the threats our environment faces, from global warming to dirty oil and gas drilling to the loss of our natural and treasured landscapes, now more than ever we need a strong media presence investigating and reporting on environmental issues. The Times claims this move will not impact its environmental coverage, but that's hard to believe. While these 7 reporters are currently dedicated to environmental issues, after this change takes place, they will be in other departments and writing about other issues. The best way to maintain excellent and timely environmental coverage is for the Times to keep the Environmental desk open and doing the same good work it has been for years.8,186 of 9,000 SignaturesCreated by Margie Alt

Stop fluoridation of Durham water supply. It has been clearly shown, in many peer-reviewed studies, that fluoride supplementation has no benefit at all for human beings and is, in fact, a known toxin with documented health risks. There is no reason to continue fluoridating the Durham water supply with this information now publicly known.4 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Joel Regen
