Ban open styrofoam floatsHere in South Florida, many people use open styrofoam floats to work around boats. All these floats end up breaking down into their smallest particle or individual beads. I spend all my free time cleaning the waterways in Ft. Laud of plastic, and the amount of styrofoam beads in the canals is epidemic. For sure there are other options.435 of 500 SignaturesCreated by Carlos Macias

Take Action: Support the Governor’s Plan to End GillnettingOn August 9, Governor Kitzhaber committed to protected the 13 species of salmon and steelhead in the Columbia River Basin that are listed under the federal Endangered Species Act. He pointed out that the use of non-tribal commercial gill nets in the mainstem of the Columbia is inconsistent with the long term goal of protecting the recovery of these endangered fish. This proposal is a win for endangered species; conservationists; and for commercial, sports and recreational fishers. Gill nets are an outdated fishing method, indiscriminately killing marine mammals, birds, and endangered native fish alongside hatchery-reared fish targeted for harvest. The Governor has proposed eliminating gill nets from the mainstem of the Columbia River while allowing their use in off channel sites like Young’s Bay. Under the Governor’s proposal, any commercial fishing in the mainstem would have to rely on selective fishing methods that minimize mortality to ESA-listed fish. Too many times before, special interests have undermined common-sense reforms for Columbia River fisheries management. Now, those same special interests are continuing to fight progress by misleading the public about this proposal. This isn’t about river access, harvest allocations or a battle between jobs versus the environment. This is a proposal to protect wild and endangered fish. We applaud Governor Kitzhaber for recognizing this key conservation issue and for initiating much-needed action to ensure a balanced and sustainable future for the Columbia River. Take action now and sign the petition.36 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Stop Gillnetting Now

Stop behaving as if the planet were infiniteThe planet is finite. This means it has a finite capacity to give us resources sustainably, and a finite capacity to absorb our effluents (like climate-change-inducing carbon dioxide). And yet economic policy, including monetary policy, continue to assume that the planet is capable of supporting infinite growth in both.138 of 200 SignaturesCreated by Eric Zencey

Ban FrackingI'm very concerned about what fracking does to water supplies, for we've seen many other examples of how it pollutes water supplies with very toxic chemicals.4 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Diana Morgan-Hickey

Stop the geoengineering experiment /chemtrails experimentRight now we've got to stand up to what is outs clean air, water, and clean food! There is an atmospheric release of toxic chemicals is planned for New Mexico in a massive georngeneering experiment without your knowledge. We the people of New Mexico need to to take a firm stand and start asking serious questions: .why is this test happening in New Mexico? .Why did the state of NM approve this atmospheric experiment .Why were there no public hearings, public notification, consent or oversight? Where is David Keith's environmental impact report? .Why is Bill Gates asking for this project to be funded by taxpayers? . Why are the people of New Mexico being used as guinea pigs? We need to take action NOW and protect our drinking water, our air, our blue skies before it is too late. The choice is yours to make and your decision will impact your children, grandchildren, your health, and the earths ability to produce food and whether your water supply is fit to drink. Don't allow potential acid rains to destroy New Mexico. Go to www.agriculturaldefensecoalition.org (go to georngeneering sections and scroll and print out a petition.) And learn more about these experiments. Help change our schoolsStyrofoam trays are a very big problem in my middle school, and even with my large attempt to change these trays to recyclable trays, nothing has changed. The previous petition, where I only went to other schoolchildren to sign, did not persuade our superintendents. As global warming and temperatures rise, I hope to change the world for the best, and fear what affect the styrofoam trays have.61 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Sarah Hill

Protect the Moab Utah region watersheds and clean airThe BLM is slated to put up 51,693 acres a total of 28 parcels on the auction block for oil & gas development in the Moab region. One parcel in particular 042 sits on top of numerous water sheds connected to Moab, another is within a half mile of a remote section of the Dolores river & numerous parcels just 20 miles south of Moab next to the small town of La Sal. Special places with names like Bridger Jack Mesa, Flat Iron Mesa, Browns Hole, Black Ridge, Kane Springs, The Lisbon Gap, The Dolores Triangle could all be affected. Moab Utah is the home of Arches & Canyonlands National Park, Dead Horse State Park & millions of acres of public lands. A gem in the eyes of the world the Moab region is one of the most scenic places on the planet, visited by millions of people every year from all over the world. Yet here we are in the fight of our lives as the BLM is slated to put numerous parcels on the auction block for oil & gas development. There was hardly any notice and there is a feeling that it is being fast tracked for approval. These parcels are in direct view of the Moab Valley, Arches National Park, Canyonlands National Park & beyond. If this development is approved Moab could lose its water supply because of contamination, lose its clean air from the off gassing from drilling and its beautiful view shed will be marked with oil platforms. Moab is in great jeopardy. Tim DeChristopher went to jail to protect this area because of this same threat and here Moab is once again under threat from oil & gas exploitation. I understand the need for oil and gas development, but I think we need to do this responsibly and not lease in areas that could adversely impact an entire towns water supply and clean air. A lot of water supplies & air have been contaminated across the U.S. due to fracking and natural gas exploration. The Blm has an oil & gas lease auction every year, this year they proposed over 80,000 acres but some were deferred, including 039 which was directly on Moab's watershed. Let's not create a situation that can't be undone. Moab needs not only its citizens to help save it but all out there in the world who love it. The comment period ends Friday October 19th at 4:30 pm. Jim Lehrer: Ask the Candidates about Global Warming during the First Presidential DebateMillions of voters will get their information about the presidential candidates by watching the debates this fall. The first debate, on October 3rd, will be moderated by Jim Lehrer and will be focused exclusively on domestic issues. With a moderator like Jim Lehrer — whose show, the PBS NewsHour, has often covered climate change with the gravity that it requires — we have a real chance to generate a substantive discussion about global warming on the national stage…if he asks the candidates about the issue. Right now, the effects of climate change are causing hardship for people across the county — from flooding in the Southeast to drought in the Midwest to the wildfires in Colorado, where the debate is being held. So it would only be natural to assume that Mr. Lehrer should ask President Obama and Governor Romney to discuss how they plan to address global warming. Unfortunately, experience has taught us that we can’t assume much when it comes to climate change coverage in the national media. Despite the fact that July was the hottest month ever recorded in the U.S., only 8.7 percent of television segments that reported on the record-breaking heat waves made the connection to climate change, according to an analysis by Media Matters for America. But we can change that if we work together to push Lehrer to bring climate change into the national spotlight by asking asking tough questions during this debate. That's why we hope you'll sign our petition and share it with your community.4,787 of 5,000 SignaturesCreated by League of Conservation Voters

Remove restrictions that prohibit or limit clotheslines20% of Americans live in subdivisions that restrict or prohibit the use of clotheslines. I have been trying to get the right to dry for 5 years without success. I continue to be fined for having my clothesline visible. Clothes dryers are the second highest user of residential energy that also contributes to global warming. For the greater good, we all need to be able to conserve by using the simple benign clothesline.1 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Susan Taylor
