As a US citizen who has lived in Israel, I deplore the fact that our government sends billions annually to Israel as she continues to flout International Law and the Human Rights of her neighbors.

It's time to stop billion dollar yearly giveaways to Israel that allow the pursuit of illegl colonizing on the west bank and gifts to its military that have regularly rained down bombs on civilians in Gaza and encourage impunity for actions sucn as prison detainment without justification for thousands of palestinians. The uncritical support of Israeli exactions whether at the UN or in our media is backfiring both for Israeli citizens and for Palestinians who are yearning for peace, since there will shortly be no more Palestinian territory left to negotiate for.

The World Health Organization Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (WHO FCTC) is an international treaty that came into force on February 27, 2005 during the George W. Bush Administration. The FCTC seeks "to protect present and future generations from the devastating health, social, environmental and economic consequences of tobacco consumption and exposure to tobacco smoke" by enacting a set of universal standards stating the dangers of tobacco and limiting its use in all forms worldwide. The United States is one of the 168 countries who signed the FCTC but has not ratified it yet. In 2008, Presidential candidate Barack Obama made a campaign promise that if he was elected he would submit the FCTC to the US Senate for ratification. We are still waiting.

What do Cuba, Iran, Syria, and Sudan have in common? They are all on the U.S. government’s list of “state sponsors of terrorism”. Which one seems to be the oddball? Cuba? The presence of Cuba on the list of state sponsors of terrorism symbolizes everything that’s wrong with our approach to Cuba. It’s based on a myth (that Cuban sponsors terrorist groups); it reinforces Cold War-era prejudices (that Cuba is an “enemy” who we must isolate and oppose); it helps lock our foreign policy in stone. It prevents the United States from taking sensible steps toward normalizing relations with Cuba.

President Obama has nominated John Brennan, whom the New York Times calls the "chief architect" of the secret drone war, to head the CIA. A bipartisan group of eleven Senators led by Ron Wyden and Dick Durbin has demanded that the Administration disclose its legal justification for using drone strikes to kill Americans overseas. In response, the White House leaked a "white paper" that summarizes its argument, but has still not released the legal memos, even to the Senate Intelligence Committee. Urge the Senate to demand answers to basic questions about the drone strike policy before Brennan is confirmed as head of the CIA. What is the legal justification for drone strikes? How many civilians have been killed? Will Brennan get the CIA out of drone strikes, as Human Rights Watch and the Washington Post editorial board have demanded? Is it true that the CIA has targeted rescuers with "secondary strikes," which the UN has said is a war crime?

The money sent to Israel could be used to finance much needed programs (job training, health care, infrastructure improvement, disaster relief) in the USA instead of going to a state that flouts international law.

We should be concerned because our tax dollars go to support Zionism in Israel, that is unjust, that breaks international laws and human rights in the area. I have been on a Mission Travel Study to Israel and Palestine in 2008 and I feel like I have I have heard a different story about what is going on between Palestine and Israel. We need to bring a petition that goes out to the American people and than give that petition to our new Secretary of Defense, Charles Hagel.

The Salvadoran Legislative Assembly is currently debating a Public-Private Partnership Law which would pave the way for the privatization of important public services. The US Ambassador to El Salvador, Mari Carmen Aponte, has been vigorously pushing the Salvadoran government to pass this law, even making threats that a $368 million development project from the Millennium Challenge Corporation will not be approved if the law is not passed. Please sign the petition to demand that Ambassador Aponte stop pressuring the Salvadoran government to pass this law.
