Congress MUST renew the independent counsel law!Trump has clearly shown that he has no interest in upholding the U.S. Constitution. He has not read it and has NO desire to -- his attention span is way too short to do so. He despises anything that he can't control.22 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Doreen Domb

State Sen. Felder: Hold Regular Town Halls With Your ConstituentsDear State Sen. Felder, We, your constituents in New York State’s 17th Senate District, submit this petition to you in the hope of promoting regular and public discourse concerning your work in Albany and matters of concern to us at home. (Not sure which State Senator is yours? Find out here: https://www.nysenate.gov/find-my-senator) As a long-standing New York elected official, and as an established and influential member of the Senate, the stances you take and the legislative initiatives you push have a direct impact on us and on people throughout New York State. For that reason, we respectfully request the following: We request that you host regular, public town hall meetings within SD17. These town halls would have an agreed upon length and structure, one that would both allow you to speak about your work and explain its impact on your constituents, and permit constituents to raise issues they care about and ask you for responses to questions. Additionally, recording would be permitted at the town halls, so that their content could be viewed or heard by those not in attendance We are requesting town halls to take place every two months when the Senate is out of session, and every month when the Senate is in session, for a total of nine meetings per year. We are requesting the first of these town halls to take place in June, 2017, with subsequent meetings in August, October, and December. Ideally, the June town hall would be a re-cap of the ending Senate session while the December one would be a preview of what you hope to accomplish and expect to happen in the upcoming Senate session Those meetings would be followed by monthly meetings starting in January 2018. We look forward to discussing this proposal with you as soon as possible, and to starting a new tradition in the 17th that will serve all of its residents.113 of 200 SignaturesCreated by John V. State Sen. Felder: Make Donald Trump Release His TaxesDear State Sen. Felder, We, your constituents in New York State’s 17th Senate District, request that you co-sponsor the TRUMP Act, S5572A, which was introduced to the State Senate last month. The legislation would require the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance to publish the last five years of state income tax returns filed by the President and Vice President, as well as New York’s senators, governor, lieutenant governor, comptroller and attorney general. (Not sure which State Senator is yours? Find out here: https://www.nysenate.gov/find-my-senator) The text of the bill can be read in full here: https://www.nysenate.gov/legislation/bills/2017/s5572/amendment/a SS572A was authored by State Senator Brad Hoylman. As he wrote in the legislation to explain why it's necessary: “New York State income tax returns contain a wealth of information about elected officials' financial standing, including salary, dividends, capital gains, rental estate income, and income from other sources. New Yorkers deserve to know whether elected officials representing the state are paying their fair share of taxes or hold potential financial conflicts of interest.” We agree. We believe that the refusal by President Donald Trump - a New York resident - to release his tax returns does more than simply violate a long-standing norm in national politics. It also represents an ongoing challenge to the integrity of the White House, since Mr. Trump’s decision makes it more difficult for the public to know what, if any, conflicts of interest he has related to his administration’s national and international policies, including tax policy and his dealings with foreign leaders. Since Mr. Trump is a New York resident, state legislators here have a unique ability to shed valuable light on this issue by passing S5572A. Additionally, analysts believe the legislation would hold up to any court challenges. Perhaps most importantly, this law extends beyond partisan politics. It would apply to Republicans and Democrats alike. And the issue of tax disclosure has nothing to do with parties, and everything to do with ensuring that elected officials are not using their positions of power to benefit themselves financially. Finally, if you choose not to co-sponsor this legislation, we request you to publicly explain why you have chosen not to do so.75 of 100 SignaturesCreated by John V. Santore

US President Donald Trump Must ResignPresident Trump must leave the presidency. Impeachment takes too long. Save us the hassle. This petition is not about corruption or ideology. It is about competence, mental health (of President Trump and everyone else) and job suitability. Vice President Pence is no panacea. He follows a rigid right-wing ideology that does not reflect the views of the 99%. However, he may be more suited for the job. We'll see.14 of 100 SignaturesCreated by MIchael Beer

Limit presidential war powersI am concerned that the American public will be easily deceived by a "wag the dog" military engagement and I am concerned that such a conflict could escalate and cause greater unrest or violence in the world, directly affecting those involved of course, but indirectly affecting the rest of us economically and the US's standing and goodwill.64 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Dennis Cronin

Local Petition: Free Acess to Hunting Island State Park for all Beaufort County ResidentsWe the undersigned, request free access for all Beaufort County residents to Hunting Island State Park. Our counterparts in Hilton Head Island enjoy free Forest Beach, so why can't we enjoy ours for the same! Many residents of Beaufort County can not access Hilton Head, simply because the cost of gas is too much! Furthermore, many residents of Beaufort County can not afford a $75.00 a year for a beach pass, plus it is 22 miles to get to Hunting Island from Beaufort and Lady's Island with added fuel costs! In addition, Beaufort, Hilton Head, Fripp, and Dawtaw Islands generate millions of dollars in tourism to offset our simple request. People from out of state and foreign countries spend their money here and more than offset the costs of Hunting Island's maintenance. We the people of Beaufort County enjoy camping too! But it comes at a premium and we would like to see substantial discounts for anyone camping who possesses a state drivers license or state ID bearing the words Beaufort County!31 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Stephen C. Ask the Presidents Emeriti to speak out as a groupI'm deeply worried about the egregious personal issues Mr. Trump exhibits as President - his lying, his lack of self-control, his narcissism, and more. I'm also (quite literally) scared of what could happen as the result of many of his Administration's initiatives and policies. I hope all five living former Presidents will speak out as a bipartisan group and express their views on what they see happening in the White House every day.10 of 100 SignaturesCreated by David C Peterson

Defend the Cascade-Siskiyou National Monument! In January 2017, President Obama added 48,000 acres in Oregon and California to the Cascade-Siskiyou National Monument. Two separate lawsuits were filed opposing the expansion of the monument in February 2017, both citing impact on the timber industry. The Western Environmental Law Center intervened in both lawsuits to defend the expansion.1,397 of 2,000 SignaturesCreated by Michelle Loth, Western Environmental Law Center

Don’t Let Donald Trump Sideline Rural Development at the USDAThe Trump Administration is deprioritizing rural revitalization in favor of boosting international trade that benefits millionaire and billionaires in the Agricultural industry. Rural America is in decline. According to the Center for Rural Affairs, Nearly 7 in 10 rural Americans fear their small town life may be dying, yet 90% say this way of life is worth fighting for. However, instead of expanding federal programs to rebuild rural America, the Trump Administration is demoting and cutting the only program at the United States Department of Agriculture solely focused on supporting small towns and rural communities. Recently, Donald Trump’s Department of Agriculture (USDA) Secretary Sonny Perdue released a plan eliminating the Undersecretary of Rural Development which means that rural communities will no longer have an equal seat the USDA table. This is the first attack on rural America by the Trump Administration. Just weeks ago, the Trump administration attempted to wipe out rural business programs through the appropriations process. Federal USDA programs should prioritize rebuilding small towns and rural communities, not international trade that only benefits the millionaire and billionaires in the agricultural industry. Please join us and demand that the Trump Administration keep their hands off the Rural Development Mission Area.967 of 1,000 SignaturesCreated by Matt Hildreth, RuralOrganizing.org

Honor Civil Rights Leader Edwin T. Pratt in Shoreline WashingtonEdwin T. Pratt was an accomplished civil rights leader and the director of the Seattle Urban League. He stood up for school desegregation and fair housing. He moved with his wife and young daughter to Shoreline Washington, a suburb of Seattle, to set an example of how we can all be neighbors. He was assassinated on the doorstep of his home in January of 1969. He was an important person and he had a huge impact on others. The purpose of this petition is to honor Edwin T. Pratt by naming or renaming a Shoreline School District building/school after him. My name is Sarah and I am a third grader in the Shoreline School District. I would love to see this happen in my community. You do NOT need to be a resident of Shoreline to sign this petition...Anyone who supports this cause can sign! Thank you so much for signing this petition!2,023 of 3,000 SignaturesCreated by J Wiebe
