• White House, Congress: STOP Militant Policing in the U.S.
The situation in Ferguson, MO affects all United States citizens. We cannot allow our police to become unchecked forces against our own people. We must stop the trend of militant policing, before the tears gas canisters and SWAT teams are in our own backyards, and we must demand justice for the civil rights violations that have already happened in Ferguson. I suggest creating legistlation for solutions like: - Mandatory ethics and multicultural training for police officers around the country; - Increased diversification of police forces - a police force should be representative of, and made up of, the same people it's protecting and serving; this includes cultural backgrounds, educational levels, skin color, sexual orientations, religions, etc.; - Changes need to be made to DoD 1033: The Department of Defense’s Excess Property Program This program is too far-reaching; it provides officers with equipment they don’t need, without providing them with important training. While items such as helmets, armor, recording devices, boots, canteens, and binoculars are useful and should be donated to police forces, items such as LRAD units, large armored tanks, heavy, military grade weaponry, and the like, ought to be given to our National Guard – where units are already trained in their use, and where they can be deployed around the nation when necessary (and when an appropriate process has been applied to their deployment). I encourage anyone who agrees, or who has other viable solutions, to add them to your signature!

  • Let us Vote on Prop 49 -- We will not be silenced
The California Supreme Court has blocked voters from directing Congress to overturn the Citizens United ruling by removing Proposition 49 from this November's ballot. The Court may allow it back on the ballot when they consider the case in September. The courts are telling us that corporations are people and their campaign spending is free speech. Now they are telling us that real people are not allowed to speak back with our votes.

  • It's Time for Transportation Forecasts that Get it Right
If an investment banker made the wrong call on 61 stocks in a row, their clients would take their money somewhere else. But that’s exactly what the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) has done when it comes to forecasting how much Americans drive. They've overestimated driving levels for 61 consecutive forecasts, causing billions of dollars to be wasted on unneeded new highways, and causing lagging investment in transit and maintenance. In reality, Americans have cut back on driving for nine years in a row. And as the DOT updates their next forecast, we need them to get it right. In the 61 forecasts released by the DOT since 1999, actual driving totals have been far below forecasts every single time. This year’s forecast was bizarrely even wrong about the past, projecting that Americans drove five percent more in 2012 than they actually did. Our spending of transportation tax dollars should match how we actually get around -- and right now, that means new rail and bus routes, improved paths for bicycles and pedestrians, and maintaining and repairing our existing roads and bridges. Alternative kinds of travel are growing increasingly popular, especially among the Millennials -- who will be the chief users of our future transportation system. Part of the problem is that state governments make bad forecasts, too, and when the feds aggregate them together, it’s a case of garbage in, garbage out. Nevertheless, it’s time for the DOT to start making good forecasts, instead of just relying on state projections stuck on cruise control in the past. That way, we can get the investments in 21st century transportation that we need.

  • Force General Allison A. Hickey's Resignation
Help Our Military Heroes Like They Have Helped U.S. - We demand President Obama remove Brigadier General Allison A. Hickey, Under Secretary for Benefits, for failure to take care of our military heroes! My name is Faatimah Sabir; I am the wife of Sgt. Bilal Sabir, a highly decorated Viet Nam veteran. My husband has been fighting to get a decision in his VA benefits claim for over 8 years and counting. Many veterans' families are in the same position; military families need her gone. Many military heroes have died, many VA claims have been destroyed, many VA employees have violated employment rules and regulations while under the supervision of this woman! Few have been held accountable, especially directors, managers, and supervisors. How many more of our military heroes have to die, never receive benefits they're entitled to, and struggle to find housing, good medical care, and employment under this wicked, uncaring, impersonal, unsympathetic General? Petition President Obama and request General Hickey resign. Force the Veterans' Board to finalize my hero’s claim once and for all. According to Congressional Submission, FY 2015 the VBA will forward over $1.2 billion from FY 2014 – money is not the problem; it's General Hickey! Thank you.

  • Help Stop Judicial Corruption
Stealing Minorities' Homes in New Jersey. On August 1, 2012, my $250K co-op with a 100k American Express Bank FSB Mortgage and backed by Fannie Mae was burglarized and illegally seized, and I was illegally evicted and barred from my home by Self-Dealing Co-op Management. According to the Co-op Attorney, Buckalew Frizzell Crevina LLP, the Co-op evicted me because I did not pay $8,133.50 in disputed legal fees while underlining fraudulent case HUD-L-438-11 was still pending. The Six NJ Judges and Four Federal Judges ruled or participated in the illegally seizure of my co-op and illegal eviction from my home of 15 years without due process, no judgment, no eviction proceeding, no warrant of removal, no foreclosure proceeding, and no cancellation of my shares of co-op stock. I could not get a lawyer to represent me because of corrupt judges and courts. Dirty judges fight dirty. The West New York Police on over five occasions have refused to allow me to file a burglary complaint or ask my Co-op Management for its Warrant of Removal. I filed numerous complaints to NJ Advisory Committee on Judicial Conduct, Governor Christie, US Attorney of District of New Jersey, Third Circuit Court, etc. Judges helped to steal my home of 15 years. Chief Judge Thomas McKee called my complaint frivolous as he dismissed my complaints against three federal judges. What happened to Fourth , Fifth and Fourteenth Amendments of US Constitution? I worked very hard to buy my co-op. Although I am US Citizen, voter, taxpayer, homeowner, I never expected to be victimized and targeted because I am a Black woman. I am still homeless and illegally barred from my co-op. I want my co-op with its contents back and justice!

  • Get Koch Money Out of Politics: Support S.J. Res. 19
The agenda of the Koch brothers is to repeal every major piece of legislation that has been signed into law over the past 80 years that has protected the middle class, the elderly, the children, the sick, and the most vulnerable in this country. Our great nation can no longer be hijacked by right-wing billionaires like the Koch brothers. For the sake of our children and our grandchildren, for the sake of our economy, we have got to let democracy prevail. Make no mistake, the Citizens United ruling has radically changed the nature of our democracy, further tilting the balance of power toward the rich and the powerful at a time when already the wealthiest people in this country have never had it so good. With the Citizens United decision, the Supreme Court is telling billionaires to go ahead and buy the U.S. government. We must not allow that to happen.

  • Make the GOP responsible for paying for suing the President
This Republican party is starting to really portray itself as the most ignorant party that has ever existed. The way they try and manipulate people is beyond belief. Unfortunately, some people are letting this go as just your typical political game but it's far worse. We need to say something; someone needs to put a stop to these type games and force the GOP to get to the REAL WORK in this country.
