• Pass legislation to give the U.S. Treasury control over the U.S. money supply
The control of the United States' money supply should not be in the hands of a private corporation, 100% of whose shareholders are private banks. This is a conflict of interest on the part of the banks.

  • National Law Requiring All Police To Wear Cameras
It is heart breaking to see that so many lives are lost for no reason. The fact that most of the time the police who commit these murders for no legitimate reason go unpunished makes these murders even worse.

  • Denver Post: Investigate Cory Gardner's lies
Cory Gardner has been caught in a second lie this week--first, he made up an organization that endorsed his over-the-counter contraception plan, and now he's claiming that he championed green jobs in Colorado. What else is Cory Gardner lying about?

  • Thank Governor Brown for more disclosure of proposition funders!
Great News! After more than 11,000 people signed petitions, thousands left comments on his website, and hundreds called — Governor Jerry Brown signed SB 844. Another big win for transparency this year! Authored by Senator Fran Pavley, SB 844 will make it easy to see online who's spending money for and against California propositions. It requires the Secretary of State to create an online page listing the total amount raised and the top ten funders for and against. Perhaps most importantly, the official ballot pamphlet will include a link to the page so it’s easy to find. Please sign the petition thanking Governor Brown and urging him to join the California Clean Money Campaign to pass the California DISCLOSE Act in 2015.

  • Congress: Stand with Elizabeth Warren and investigate the New York Fed
I work as an Investigative Analyst in the Major Economic Crimes Bureau of the New York County District Attorney’s Office. I focus on large white-collar crime cases, and hope to work in this field full-time after I graduate from law school. The recently-released recordings from New York Fed bank examiner Carmen Segarra are very troubling to me, and show an unsettling level of deference to banks by the investigators who are supposed to be regulating them. This is the same kind of behavior that we saw during the financial crisis, and we thought that things had changed since then. We need to make sure we are pushing for stronger oversight of the banks instead of letting Wall Street do what it pleases. Senator Elizabeth Warren has called for Congressional hearings into the culture at the New York Federal Reserve, and we're standing with her to urge Congress to take action. Add your name to join Senator Warren's push for an investigation.

  • Megafarms Don't Need Unlimited Government Subsidies!
In the final hours of debate on the 2014 Farm Bill, Congress stripped the popular bi-partisan reform that would have tightened what it means to be “actively engaged” in farming. Without this definition, mega-farmers use this as a loophole to multiply their payments for every acre they add to their operation. This hurts small and mid-sized family farmers too, who aren't getting rich from farm payments. The time has come for the Obama Administration to fulfill their 2007 campaign pledge and close the loopholes mega-farms use to get around farm program payment limits.

  • Justice for Chaumtoli Huq/Stand up for the Women Who Stand Up
On July 19, 2014, human rights lawyer and mother Chaumtoli Huq was unlawfully arrested and detained for 9 hours. She was wearing a traditional South Asian tunic while waiting outside a restaurant in Times Square for her children and husband to use the restroom. Police approached her and told her to move. Ms. Huq was not blocking any passage that would prevent the public from free access to the sidewalk. When she explained she was waiting for her family, Officer Ryan Lathrop became irate. He continued to use force to arrest her, and when Ms. Huq said that she was in pain, Officer Lathrop told her “shut your mouth.” When Officer Lathrop found out Ms. Huq had a different last name than her husband, he told her “in America, wives take the names of their husbands.” Ms. Huq was arrested and held at the local precinct for nine hours. We demand that Bill de Blasio hold a public town hall meeting to respond to each and every case of police brutality so that the public can have a dialogue on over-policing in our communities. This arrest is characteristic of a pattern and practice of the NYPD of aggressive over-policing of people of color and persons lawfully exercising their First Amendment rights. It also shows a lack of gender sensitivity and ignorance towards diverse cultures in New York. No police officer should harass anyone, let alone question cultural norms of family relationships. This incident did not take place in a vacuum, as over-policing, discrimination, and police brutality has been at the forefront of national dialogue. Police misconduct and civil rights abuses following the police shooting death of unarmed teenager Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri has shocked the conscience of the nation. Even within New York City, however, we have plenty of examples of horrific over-policing. We are calling on you to demand that Bill de Blasio and Commissioner William Bratton take proactive steps toward ending police brutality and harassment of women and people of color.

  • Open the DMV, or no voter ID!
This change in WI law comes only weeks before an important election. It is projected that up to 300,000 legally eligible WI voters will not be able to vote in November because they don't have or won't be able to obtain the required ID in time. I work at the polls and have seen firsthand how difficult it can be for legitimately entitled people to provide the documentation necessary to register even before this new requirement.

  • Dock Pay and Benefits of Congress
Every American should be given a vote on this petition. Entire Congress takes too much time off and still receives pay and benefits. All members should have pay and benefits docked when not present in session a minimum of 24 hours each week and be present for all speeches. Entire Congress must be present in their DC office at least 8 hours a week. Congress should travel economy class, not business class or first class unless they pay the difference in price. Congress should not be paid for campaigning. .

  • Insist on Public Disclosure and Accountability in the Washington State Legislature
Petition Background Mid 2013, news reporter Mr. Mike Baker (AP) wrote “Washington ethics law allows public officials to accept free meals on ‘infrequent occasions.’ But the biggest beneficiary of lobbyist expense accounts received meals, drinks or golf on 62 occasions over the first four months of the year.” After reading about lawmakers’ voracious appetites I filed a formal complaint with the Washington State Legislative Ethics Board. I named the entire Washington State Legislature in my complaint. In response, the Ethics Board scheduled four public hearings to define the term “infrequent occasions”. Huge victory! The first three public hearings focused discussion on the number of free meals that would be allowed lawmakers a year. At the third hearing on August 19th a preliminary vote limited free meals for lawmakers to twelve a year. The fourth and possibly final hearing scheduled on Tuesday, October 14th will focus on whether to create a reporting system to account for the twelve free meals. The Ethics Board is currently seeking public input regarding the right of the public to know, through a reporting system, who is buying meals for their representatives. They need to hear people care about this issue. 6-16-14 Seattle Times’ Posted by Thanh Tan on editorial board blog: “To avoid the appearance of being influenced by lobbyists with deep pockets and fine dining tastes, lawmakers absolutely should track and reveal when they accept free meals, and lobbyists should do the same. Those records should be accessible to the public, too. I’m talking about an easily searchable database via the Public Disclosure Commission; something better than the handwritten, scanned PDF files that are currently filed by special interest groups on the PDC’s website.” I have been working to raise awareness of hunger in our state and our nation. When I read that some of our lawmakers freely accept gifts of food while being less than generous in fully funding emergency feeding programs, it felt like a betrayal. Members of the legislature are paid a per diem of $120 a day to cover their expenses while in session. This live link takes you to a video of the Ethics Board hearing on 8-19-14 regarding free meals for Washington State lawmakers. http://www.tvw.org/index.php?option=com_tvwplayer&eventID=2014080036 6/1/13 – Seattle Times: “Olympia lobbyists pampering lawmakers with free meals” http://seattletimes.com/html/localnews/2021104631_freemealsxml.html 7/30/13 - Seattle Times Editorial: “Legislative probe should spur more transparency”. http://seattletimes.com/html/editorials/2021497459_editethicsinvestigation29xml.html 8/21/14 – Seattle Times – Danny Westneat - Some legislators have an insatiable hunger for free meals http://seattletimes.com/html/localnews/2024371423_westneat24xml.html

  • Congressional Reform Act of 2014
We must support this...pass it on and lets see if these idiots understand what people pressure is all about. Salary of retired US Presidents . . . . . . . . . . . $180,000 FOR LIFE Salary of House/Senate members . . . . . . . . $174,000 FOR LIFE This is stupid Salary of Speaker of the House . . . . . . . . . . $223,500 FOR LIFE This is really stupid Salary of Majority/Minority Leaders . . . . . . . . $193,400 FOR LIFE Ditto last line Average Salary of a teacher . . . . . . . . . . . . . .. $40,065 Average Salary of a deployed Soldier . . . . . .. . $38,000 I think we found where the cuts should be made! If you agree pass it on, I just did. Warren Buffet, in a recent interview with CNBC, offers one of the best quotes about the debt ceiling: "I could end the deficit in 5 minutes," he told CNBC. "You just pass a law that says that anytime there is a deficit of more than 3% of GDP, all sitting members of Congress are ineligible for re-election. The 26th amendment (granting the right to vote for 18 year-olds) took only 3 months & 8 days to be ratified! Why? Simple! The people demanded it. That was in 1971 - before computers, e-mail, cell phones, etc. Of the 27 amendments to the Constitution, seven (7) took one (1) year or less to become the law of the land - all because of public pressure. Warren Buffet is asking each addressee to forward this email to a minimum of twenty people on their address list; in turn ask each of those to do likewise. In three days, most people in The United States of America will have the message. This is one idea that really should be passed around. Congressional Reform Act of 2014 1. No Tenure / No Pension. A Congressman/woman collects a salary while in office and receives no pay when they're out of office. 2. Congress (past, present & future) participates in Social Security. All funds in the Congressional retirement fund move to the Social Security system immediately. All future funds flow into the Social Security system, and Congress participates with the American people. It may not be used for any other purpose. 3. Congress can purchase their own retirement plan, just as all Americans do. 4. Congress will no longer vote themselves a pay raise. Congressional pay will rise by the lower of CPI or 3%. 5. Congress loses their current health care system and participates in the same health care system as the American people. 6. Congress must equally abide by all laws they impose on the American people. 7. All contracts with past and present Congressmen/women are void effective 12/31/14. The American people did not make this contract with Congressmen/women. Congress made all these contracts for themselves. Serving in Congress is an honor, not a career. The Founding Fathers envisioned citizen legislators, so ours should serve their term(s), then go home and back to work.

  • Stop Police Brutality and Killings Now
I have become extremely discontented with the senseless, blatant, vicious beatings and killings by law enforcement. These are the citizens that they have sworn to serve and protect. I as a human being and citizen can no longer sit idly by while this deplorable conduct continues without any accountability.
