Strengthen Social SecurityBecause the Budget Committee is considering chained CPI for SS. Patty Murray is on this committee and has not come out against this proposal. If chained CPI had been instituted in 2002, today the average SS recipient would be receiving $869 less than they are currently receiving using the current method of calculating cost of living increases. These are earned, promised benefits and it's not fair to cut them now!2,190 of 3,000 SignaturesCreated by Andrea Vaughan

No More Obstruction - Demand the Senate Confirm the President's Judicial NomineesOn October 31, Senate Republicans outrageously continued their unprecedented obstruction of President Obama's judicial nominees by filibustering Pattie Millett, the first of three pending nominees to the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals to be brought up for a vote. With the exception of only two GOP senators -- Susan Collins of Maine and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska -- Republicans signaled with this vote that they would use partisan obstruction tactics to keep the incredibly important D.C. Circuit stacked disproportionately with ideological right-wing judges. This is an abdication of senators' constitutional duties fueled by nothing but politics, and it must stop.183 of 200 SignaturesCreated by Ben Betz

Rodney Davis: Back Leahy-Sensenbrenner NSA reform billThe Leahy-Sensenbrenner NSA reform bill has been endorsed by the ACLU. The Guardian reported: “The legislation introduced today by Senator Leahy and Representative Sensenbrenner is a true reform bill that rejects the false and dangerous notion that privacy and our fundamental freedoms are incompatible with security,” said Michelle Richardson, the ACLU’s surveillance lobbyist. http://www.theguardian.com/world/2013/oct/29/nsa-surveillance-review-intelligence-chiefs-testify Sen. Patrick Leahy & Rep. Jim Sensenbrenner wrote in Politico: "...the dragnet collection of millions of Americans’ phone records every day - whether they have any connection at all to terrorism - goes far beyond what Congress envisioned or intended to authorize...it must stop." "...Since the revelation that the National Security Agency is collecting the details of Americans’ phone calls on an unprecedented scale, it has come out that the government searches the content of huge troves of emails, collects in bulk the address books from email accounts and social networking sites, at least temporarily collected geolocation data from our cellphones, committed thousands of privacy violations and made substantial misrepresentations to courts and Congress." "[Our legislation] will put an end to the National Security Agency’s indiscriminate collection of personal information. Our proposal, the USA FREEDOM Act, provides stronger privacy safeguards with respect to a range of government surveillance programs." "The intelligence community has failed to justify its expansive use of these laws. It is simply not accurate to say that the bulk collection of phone records has prevented dozens of terrorist plots. The most senior NSA officials have acknowledged as much in congressional testimony. We also know that the FISA court has admonished the government for making a series of substantial misrepresentations to the court regarding these programs." "We hope other lawmakers will join us in our legislative efforts to ensure that such abuses are never repeated and that no false trade-off between freedom and security is allowed to be decided secretly, behind closed doors, ever again." - "The case for NSA reform" http://www.politico.com/story/2013/10/leahy-sensenbrenner-nsa-reform-98953.html160 of 200 SignaturesCreated by Robert Naiman

Update MA Voting Laws in 20132013 may already be the year in which the Supreme Court gutted the Voting Rights Act, but Massachusetts should take a stand and also make it the year in which our Commonwealth stood up for voters by passing truly comprehensive election modernizations.368 of 400 SignaturesCreated by Sara Brady

Vote of No Confidence in Congressman Steve SoutherlandThis action reflects the dissatisfaction of many residents in Florida's 2nd congressional district because of the poor leadership shown by their U.S. Representative, Steve Southerland and his negative disposition towards Congress passing a comprehensive immigration reform bill; supporting the Affordable Care Act; and negotiations that recently led to the Federal Government reopening after it was shut down and America's national debt ceiling being raised.101 of 200 SignaturesCreated by Northwest Florida CLC, AFL CIO

Strengthen Voting Rights ActOur basic right to vote is under assault. The right to vote is the political tool that belongs solely to We the People. Restricting or curtailing that right must never be allowed if we are to keep our Democracy viable. Immediately on the heels of our national "Supreme" Court's recent decision to gut our Voting Rights Act by disqualifying Section 4 (which required only certain states to obtain DOJ evaluation and approval that their proposed state laws would not discriminate against voting groups), at least two states, Texas and North Carolina, have now quickly enacted restrictive voter ID laws, the very laws that were, in fact, previously judged to be discriminatory, preventing their enactment prior to this Supreme Court decision. Our Supreme Court’s action has thrust this issue back into the legislative branch of our government, and we must apply heavy pressure upon the House of Representatives and the Senate to restore the full integrity of our critical Voting Rights Act. My petition demands that our Voting Rights Act Section 4 be restored and that it apply to every state in the nation with no ability to “opt out.”42 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Marilyn Clark

People's Petition for Change 2014 - District SC-1The current representative for district SC-1, Mark Sanford, has only contributed to Washington, D.C.'s obstructionism and the historic failures of the 113th Congress (and in such a short time). We, the people, are capable of moving past this era of impasses and uncertainty, and into a season of change for everyone in South Carolina. The work for change starts now with your signature on this petition.52 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Kevin

Innovate the US GovernmentIt's obvious. The government is bogged down, and not reacting to the people. Instead it is reacting strictly to the largest Corporations and the money they spend.8 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Rowan Edwards
