The Federal Government shutdown cost tax payers' real money. The people responsible should pay.

The government is not adequately setting up my generation for success, in fact quite the opposite, they continue to add on debt which my generation will have to pay for and they can't seem to get anything done. Since this directly affects myself and my generation I should be granted the ability to run for President in 2016 despite the age requirements. The Founding Fathers put that into the Constitution because they thought that the generation in adulthood would look out for the generation following them and also didn't think that any of what the government would do would directly affect the younger generation. We are a democracy and that means everyone should have the ability to run for political office, especially if something directly affects someone like this outrageous debt and poor leadership does my generation.

It is a privilege and an honor to serve in Washington D.C.as a member of Congress or a Senator...It is not a job for life with a cushy pension and better benefits than most Americans will ever have! If every person who signs this petition contacts a minimum of twenty people, then it will only take a few days for most people in the U.S. to receive this message. Don't you think it is time for Congress to return to being made up of citizen legislators who must abide by all of the laws they enact as envisioned by the Founding Fathers? Obamacare is people-powered!

"We the People" cannot permit those among us - potent with pure hatred against others and hell bent on destroying our democracy and government only to make a comeback of creating a government with their limited, & restrictive ideology - where the freedoms of the minority greatly diminishes the freedoms of the majority.

Over the first 110 years of American history, corporations had no claim on the birthrights of human beings. They operated profitably and thrived. However, 127 years ago an unelected Supreme Court declared them equally entitled to the rights intended for real, natural persons. As a result corporations have abused the privileges granted them by their charters and year after year have claimed more human rights. And year after year this body of politicians in black robes has restricted our ability to claim those same rights for ourselves. As the 9th Amendment to the Constitution of the United States makes clear, We the People are sovereign. We the People have rights. Corporations and other artificial entities created by law have no rights. They have only those privileges we choose to give them so they may fulfill their purposes and meet their responsibilities to We the People.

It is time to make changes in the way the federal government ignores the American people. We are the boss.

Our government has been corrupted by the domination of concentrated wealth in all aspects of our political processes. We have seen corporations claim human rights to evade public health and safety laws. We have seen a handful of wealthy individuals select primary candidates for the presidency, Congress and state office. We have seen these wealthy interests buy up the media and misrepresent the vital information that We the People need to make informed decisions on election day. Wielding the undue influence of Big Money over elected officials, these special interests damage our ability to protect ourselves, our health, our environment, our livelihood, our retirement security, and our children's ability to gain an education. It is time to restore America's government to all of America's peoples.

Our system of government, and our economy, indeed our democracy itself, are all threatened by a strategy of using a government shutdown or, even worse, default, for any cause, left, right, or middle. This is not the way our system of government should work. Steps must be taken to prevent this from happening again, next year, or ever. We should only elect candidates of either party who will pledge to pass legislation that will prevent this kind of strategy.

Senator Ted Cruz's leading role in leveraging the government shutdown based on his irresponsible and dangerous agenda in an attempt to defund the ACA has inflicted reprehensible devastation upon the American people and the nation's economy. His obvious lack of remorse for his actions with his subsequent messages that he "would continue to do anything he can, to stop the train wreck that is Obamacare" is further reason to expel this senator before he paves the way to yet another destructive government shutdown.

The first words of the constitution are “We the People of the United States”. Not “We the Parties”, “We the Politicians”, or “We the Politically connected”. Since the founding of this country, those with power have worked tirelessly to take the power from the people. Our democracy is not representative. It has never been truly representative of all of the people. The current dysfunction within the federal and state governments, punctuated by the federal government shutdown, and the inequality within society show just how far we have gotten from the people. It is time for a revolution. A revolution of thought. A revolution of process. In order to divest power from the few and giving it to the people, we must start with the election process. The time has come to make our democracy truly representative of all of the people. Political parties and politicians must no longer be able to manipulate the election process for self gain. A true democracy stands on the simple principle of one person, one vote, no exceptions.
