Here in New York City every night at 7PM EST, we show our thanks and appreciation by applauding from our windows to honor the essential workers who are making sure we are safe and healthy, we have the food we need, our lights are on, and our water is running. That undoubtedly makes an impact night after night. What would make an even bigger impact is ensuring that their rights are protected and that essential workers all across America are going to work each day with proper protective gear, hazard pay, and guaranteed sick pay and medical and family leave. This, in addition to the other rights that we are fighting for, will make a real difference in the lives of essential workers all across America. On a personal note: I, like so many Americans, have lost work due to the coronavirus crisis. As someone who would typically be disqualified from receiving UI, I have immense gratitude for Democrats insisting that unemployment benefits be expanded to include gig workers and freelancers. Now, I am asking you to help petition expanding the care even further. Let's get our essential workers protected in the next stimulus package. For most of us, as bar and restaurant owners, our entire life's work is on the line. It's time to flatten the economic curve and get Iowans back to work and get our kids back to school. Tattoo studios across the state of Colorado were ordered by the state health department to cease operations on March 19th, 2020 due to the Covid-19 outbreak. The state set a return to work date in that same email of May 1st, 2020. Reputable studios statewide complied and closed their doors. This is not a petition to open early. This is not a petition to bash a politician, governor or mayor. This is a petition to re-open tattoo studios as stated on May 1st, 2020. Sound silly? Asking that a governing body do what they said they would do? If you've not been under a rock for this "lock-down", and all of the crazy guess-work that's generated countless "guidelines" it's likely that you understand why we are asking this. Artists state-wide have found their breaking point, and whether or not some government classification agrees, to the families of these artists, their craft is essential. We will update the petition with more supporting evidence, but please consider the following:  - Unlike a large majority of "essential workers" Tattoo Artists are state certified to deal with contagion, contaminates, blood and airborne pathogens. We do this every single day.  - Reputable studios are building "new normal" safety standards for their staff and clients based upon their already above and beyond cleanliness standards.  - Artists across the nation are coming together to create a US standard for the craft and to remove state dependencies around regulation enforcement with groups such as Icons Of Ink.

Why is this important? The survival of the independent beauty professionals is at risk. Most beauty professionals are sole proprietors and not allowed to file for Wisconsin unemployment until April 21. Not to mention most of the banks that are filing SBA loans are still waiting for guidance from the Federal Government, so we are placed at the bottom of the list when it comes to even APPLYING for these loans.

In the Declaration of Independence, its authors wrote down the list of crimes and injustices committed by the King of Great Britain as the main reasons for which such separation was promulgated. Most recent example would be his administration’s response, or lack thereof, to the COVID-19 pandemic, which has cost the United States countless lives. As we speak: The Federal government is seizing local hospital supplies without cause or reason. Doctors, and nurses, or anyone who sound alarms on their hazardous working conditions are silenced or even fired. Donald John Trump has been using public daily briefings as a means for free political campaigning and some kind of emotional grandeur. He recklessly promotes non-tested drugs, whose producers are companies in which Donald John Trump and his friends have invested in and has already cost innocent lives. Donald John Trump constantly contradicts experts who dare to disagree with him, and that he was advised of the pandemic threat in November of 2019 and had made it an unimportant issue. He pushed for the bailing out of the rich and the biggest corporations in the United States while leaving hardworking workers and taxpayers without the means of living, while also attempting to suspend medical coverage for our most vulnerable and poor during this pandemic. Donald John Trump attempted to remove those who will fairly oversee the appropriation of $2.3 trillion that congress has appointed to assist the working, taxpayer majority during this horrible pandemic. He removed environmental protections and withdrawing the US from the Paris climate agreement Donald John Trump’s retaliation against people in the administration who testified during the impeachment or brought the lawfull whistleblower report to Congress He is violating international law with increased drone assassinations Our Great Democracy is under siege from a virus that is crippling our economy, killing our most vulnerable members; and from a dictator, who cares for nothing but to enrich himself and his corporate friends. The way we respond to this will define us for generations to come. Servicing one client at a time (while wearing a mask & gloves) poses little to no risk of spreading the virus, as compared to 20 or more people in a grocery store or 10 plus people at restaurants picking up food.

Landlords are still requiring us to pay our building leases and other bills but our stylists /artists are unable to afford to pay rent. Shop owners are severely suffering! We do NOT want to lose our businesses or go into debt to keep our business open. Image such hair, nails, skin, massage and tattoos etc... is important to clients due their confidence, self-esteem, and even mental health.
