Do not support Florida's tourism industry until The Stand your Ground Law is abolished! This law has become akin to Jim Crow Laws which enabled and tacitly encouraged violent acts against innocent African Americans--most of whom were male-- under the guise of keeping our country separate but equal. Given the recent mistrial of Michael Dunn who fatally shot a young unarmed African American male teenager over a dispute about loud music, we have to let Florida's government know that the Stand your Ground Law has effected the hard won freedom of two innocent children because their skin color made them suspect.

In 2006, I was shot in the abdomen in my workplace by a deeply troubled young man. And I was lucky to have survived -- one of my coworkers did not. Since that fateful day, I have fought through twenty surgeries, a coma, and months and months of PTSD therapy. I don't know if you had the chance to follow the hearing about gun safety in Olympia -- but I went to testify in favor of I-594. Brian Judy, a gun lobbyist, noted that I-594 wouldn't have stopped Newtown's Adam Lanza from taking his mother's gun and then turning it on her. He even joked, "I think that [one] was the 'murder your mom' loophole." Both he and state Senator Steve O'Ban chuckled. Would you joke about someone murdering their mother and then killing twenty children and six adults at Sandy Hook Elementary? Then there was Senator Roach, who has been told to seek counseling for threatening her employees and even brandishing a handgun at one. She did everything possible to degrade the testimony of myself and other survivors, and to question our motives. Why shouldn't I want legislation that would prevent the kind of everyday gun violence that threatens our communities, even if I-594 would not have stopped the gunman who shot me? I know at a personal and profound level the damage that gun violence does -- and Republicans in the state Senate, as well as lobbyist Brian Judy, would prefer I stay silent. I've already delivered one round of signatures to the State Senate to demand an explanation for this outrageous and offensive behavior. And I'd like to deliver more. I have a great love and respect for Anthony Chabot Regional Park and the purpose that is serves for the people who use it.

Walmart, the American multinational retail giant, currently sells Crickett Firearms, a line of rifles that are marketed to very young children under the tagline “My First Rifle.” These weapons often look like toys, coming in colors like pink and orange. The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) has made it clear that “the safest home for children is one without a gun.” According to a past president of the AAP, “Young children are curious, and are often unable to remember or follow safety rules ... When you combine these traits with access to guns, the consequences can be tragic and permanent.” As the second largest public corporation in the world, Walmart says “we’re proud of what we’ve accomplished so far on our journey to become a more…responsible business.” But responsible businesses do not market weapons to young children.

Our hearts break every time we think about Zina Daniel’s murder. She was working at the Azana Spa when her estranged, abusive husband walked in and shot seven people, killing Zina and two others. What makes it so hard to accept is that Zina had a restraining order against her murderer -- a simple background check would have blocked him from buying the gun that killed her. But, in Wisconsin, background checks aren’t the law -- they’re optional. All anyone has to do to avoid one is buy from a “private seller” at a gun show, some back alley, or even online. And that’s exactly what happened. Zina’s murderer got his gun through Armslist.com just one day before he killed her. This private sale loophole allows just about anyone to sell a gun with no background check, no identification, and no questions asked. It is time for the Wisconsin legislature to listen to WI citizens, instead of the extremist pro gun lobby from Washington.

The latest shooting of a man in a movie theater texting his daughter should terrify everyone. The assailant has already stated his intention to use the stand your ground law as his defense. Enough is enough.

This bill would effectively eliminate airsoft in California. A Hobby which Includes many service members,business owners,veterans and re-enactors. The change would require all airsoft replicas (a hobby in which realistic-looking replica guns are used to propel BBs at participants to tag one another as "out") to be painted entirely bright colors. While aimed to prevent law enforcement from mistaking "toy" guns as real weapons, this further endangers law enforcement officers as real guns could easily be painted to deter an officer from protecting his or herself."

Individuals licensed to carry a concealed pistol by Michigan or another state are prohibited from carrying a concealed pistol or a portable device that uses electo-muscular disruption technology on certain premises. Criminals know this, and they target these areas, knowing that law-abiding people in or around these areas will not be able to defend themselves accordingly. These areas are also coined, "Criminal Empowerment Zones".

Governor Martinez please issue a message on Representative Miguel Garcia’s rewrite of HB44--the bill which calls for background checks on all private sales at gun shows and which codifies our mental and criminal adjudication reporting to the FBI NICS database for the 2014 session.

I'm sick and tired of Congress meddling in the policies of the District of Columbia! We have no vote in Congress, yet Congress can change any laws that are passed by our locally elected officials. You hear Americans complain about the 'federal government intrusion' yet the most glaring example of this - the lack of statehood and full citizenship for District of Columbia residents - goes ignored.

30,000 people are killed by gun violence each year in this country. There have been 28 school shootings in the one year since Newtown. Through divestment, Pennsylvania can send a clear message to the gun industry that we no longer accept gun violence as "business as usual."

I have started this petition in order to help fight back against the gun lobby in the US. Gun sellers and manufactures are profiting from the mass slaughter of innocent US citizens on a daily basis. The state of Illinois has no business supporting this industry with taxpayer money.
