• Divest Pennsylvania's pension fund from the gun industry
In the last 10 years, I've watched as more and more people have been killed by guns in mass shootings. When Sandy Hook occurred, I was confident that this nation would finally become disgusted with the gun industry and the politicians who protect it. Instead, our leaders do nothing. Well, maybe we can't get Congress to pass even an assault rifle ban, but, at least, we can stop financially supporting the gun industry with public dollars.

  • Divest from the Gun Industry
As a high school teacher, a mother, a relative of Columbine High School survivors, and a gun owner, I am appalled by the lack of concern politicians have had in creating real solutions to gun control. Our community's safety can only be secured when common sense is used when discussing gun control issues. But while the gun industry's political power is still strong, there is a way to help. Right now there are many city and state pension funds that are supported with dollars from the gun industry. Demand that such pension funds divest from the gun industry as a means to weaken the political power held by the gun industry and to clear the way for common sense gun violence prevention laws.

  • Tennessee governments should divest from the gun industry
Until there is proper control of sale and ownership of guns, Tennessee governmental entities should not be in the business of making money from investments in the gun industry. The gun industry needs to help promote the control of the sale and ownership of guns.

  • Thank Colorado legislators for common-sense gun safety laws
The smear and retaliation campaign by the extreme right against progressive Colorado legislators who backed this year’s gun safety reforms has taken a terrible toll. But they were right to not give up. Now we can see the reforms they fought for are working--preventing guns from being sold to people who shouldn’t have them--while allowing law-abiding citizens to go about their business. Common-sense gun safety in Colorado is making our state better.

  • Tell Congress: Pass a stronger background check bill now
Update: August 26, 2015 There have been over 200 mass shootings since we initially posted this petition and horrific shooting events continue to take place across the country. Stronger gun laws won't entirely solve our gun death and injury epidemic, but lawmakers can be part of the solution. We need to keep the pressure on members of Congress to pass a stronger background check bill, among other important gun reforms. Background checks are an important way to stop prohibited people from purchasing guns. In the last 20 years, over 2 million prohibited people have been stopped from buying guns. Nevertheless, holes still exist via online sales, newspaper ads, at gun shows (in most states) and between individuals. Let's remind members of Congress that they have the power to reduce gun deaths and injuries. Send a message to your House and Senate members to finish the job.

  • President Obama: Proclaim December to be "National Children and Gun Violence Awareness Month"
As noted in a recent report of the Children's Defense Fund, U.S. children and teens are 17 times more likely to die from a gun than their peers in 25 other high-income countries combined. In 2010, children and teen gun death rates in the U.S. were over four times higher than in Canada, nearly seven times higher than in Israel, and nearly 65 times higher than in the United Kingdom. [CDF, "Protect Children not Guns Overview," p.1] The events in Newtown, CT in December 2012, were unimaginable, and yet, thus far, our nation has been unable to make legal and cultural changes to sufficiently protect children from the effects of gun violence. A campaign to develop awareness is necessary. We must never forget the horrible massacre of school children and staff at Sandy Hook Elementary in December of 2012. We must also be mindful of the children we may or may not hear about but whose death by gun violence most assuredly is felt deeply by their families, friends and communities. The proclamation of December as "National Children and Gun Violence Awareness Month" will honor the memory of those we have lost and build the awareness needed to create lasting change.

  • Ban The Newly Released Video Game"The Slaying of Sandy Hook Elementary"
Ryan Jake Lambourn, a video game developer of Sydney Austraila has created an allegedly "pro gun control" video game that simulates the tragic and devastating events of the Sandy Hook Elementary shootings. Lambourn callously released the video game on the first anniversary of the tragedy. The game opens with the user obtaining a glock handgun and shooting their mother just as Adam Lanza did and proceeds to direct the user (virtual shooter) to storm from classroom to classroom with an AR-15 rifle shooting victims. The game displays a "Kill Ratio" along the way and climaxes with the user turning the gun on himself when the police arrive. There are no words for the existence of this repugnant video game or for the sheer irresponsibility and insensitivity of Ryan Lambourn for creating it. Lambourn claims that the video game is advocating for gun control but somehow the irony of that statement escapes him. This video game glorifies the killer of Sandy Hook a murderous person with an obsession with "first person shooter" video games such as the one that Lambourn has created in the name of Sandy Hook. Further,it makes light of a National Tragedy, blatantly minimizes the pain and suffering of the Sandy Hook families, and disrespects the memory of their slaughtered children and teachers. Ask Ryan Jake Lambourn of Googumproduce to self regulate and remove this wildly misguided and offensive video game from existence and publicly apologize to the families and victims of Sandy Hook Elementary. Ryan Lambourn may be contacted directly through his twitter account @googumproduce. His company website is googumproduce.com. Please be sure that he hears our collective voice.

  • Long Guns Need to be in a carrying case when carried in public in Arizona
I am starting this petition because of the incident on June 25, 2013 in which a young man was photographed carrying a loaded AR-15 rifle on a Tucson Sun-Tran bus. This photo and article appeared on the KVOA TV station web site on June 26th. A man sitting opposite the gun carrying youth felt threatened and told the bus driver. The bus driver stated it was legal. The frightened passenger got off at the next stop. I believe that if one is carrying a long gun on public transportation or in other public areas, the long gun should be in an appropriate carrying case.
