• The U.S. must accept more refugees and asylum seekers from Syria
The refugee crisis, fueled by the political turmoil in Syria, has resulted in the displacement of millions of families. The images of 3-year-old Aylan Kurdi, the Syrian child who drowned while attempting to flee the violence in his home country, should inspire a call to action that the United States cannot ignore.   As we have written at The Nation, the United States and many other wealthy nations have failed gravely in their response to the growing numbers risking their lives to flee war or poverty. We recently reported on the plight of refugees arriving in Greece and the perils they face because of this inaction. Refugees from Syria and other countries encounter sometimes deadly conditions on land and by sea and must face extreme violence and danger on their journey to safety.   The United States bears a special responsibility to respond, as our invasion of Iraq, decision to funnel weapons into the region and failure, along with other countries, to find a diplomatic solution have helped to fuel the violence. Since the Syrian conflict’s beginnings in 2011, the United States has taken in only about 1,500 Syrian refugees and has proposed to add only between 5,000 to 8,000 more. This is not enough. Germany has responded to the crisis by agreeing to take in 800,000 refugees from Syria and other countries in turmoil. The United States must do more to help these families. To begin, we call on the United States government to heed the call of aid organizations and concerned politicians and take in at least 65,000 Syrian refugees before the end of 2016. • President Obama, Act to End the Suffering of Syrian Refugees
The drowning of a little boy put a human face on the massive crisis in Syria this week. He was one of 4 million Syrians who have fled their homes since the war began four years ago. And he became one of the more than 220,000 people killed in the conflict so far. The world has failed to respond to the massive influx of refugees, leading to the deaths of thousands at sea. Immediate action is needed to save lives. The United States can and should be doing more. President Obama should call on European leaders to end their intransigence and immediately accept desperate refugees, launch rescue operations and provide emergency shelter. Our own country should commit to resettle more refugees and provide greater financial assistance. The father of the boy who drown this week said, "We want the world’s attention on us, so that they can prevent the same from happening to others." He's right. Our attention is desperately needed. After four years of inaction, this crisis won't stop until the U.S. and the world commit the political and economic resources needed to bring an end to the war.

  • Syrian Refugee Crisis
In view of the Syrian refugee crisis and the reluctance of many countries to accept or help the refugees, the United States should step in and provide more assistance. First of all, the US should accept more refugees into our country under emergency basis. Secondly, the US should provide more funding, medical assistance, food, and other essentials. Finally, the US government should investigate better immigration policies and procedures, in harmony with other countries, to handle these types of crises!

  • Urge the U.S. government to accept more Syrian refugees
I think we're all disturbed by the danger people are undertaking on their journeys to Europe and the amount of deaths we have witnessed is heartbreaking. And now, seeing images of dead children washing ashore is unacceptable and has convinced me that we need to do something to help.

  • #ArrestTrump
Earlier this month, Trump praised the two men who brutally beat up and urinated on a homeless Latino man. The men told police that, "Donald Trump was right, all these illegals need to be deported." Recently, Trump had Jorge Ramos, a prominent Latino journalist, forcefully removed from a press conference for asking questions about his immigration policy that Trump didn't like. And, during the first televised Republican presidential debate, Trump admitted, before a national television audience, that he has bribed public officials from both major political parties. There have been no repercussions or criminal investigations, and this is unacceptable. Trump's hateful and possibly criminal actions are destructive to American democracy and the rule of law, and have led to acts of violence. Billionaires and presidential candidates should not be able to operate above the law. Urge US Attorney General Loretta Lynch and State Attorneys General to hold Trump accountable, conduct a full criminal investigation of Trump's actions and the actions of his campaign and representatives.

  • #TrumpHate from the debate: Tell the RNC and GOP leaders to denounce Trump's extremist views and ...
Major corporations, media entities, political figures across the political spectrum, and even Donald Trump's own business partners have denounced his hateful rhetoric towards immigrants and Latinos, but Reince Priebus, the chairman of the Republican National Committee, and much of the GOP leadership has not. Left unchecked, hateful public debate creates a hostile environment for all immigrants and Latinos—an environment which can result in tragedy. If GOP leaders do not renounce Trump, they are supporting his hateful agenda. RNC Chairman Reince Priebus, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, House Speaker John Boehner, and other GOP leaders and presidential candidates; your support of Donald Trump's hateful agenda and statements targeting Mexicans, immigrants and other Latinos is unacceptable. Hate speech and hateful agendas targeting a group of people—particularly by presidential candidates of major political parties—has real-life consequences. Use your authority and leadership to denounce Trump's extremist views and his hateful rhetoric; and keep hate out of the presidential debate. Use your authority and leadership to denounce Trump's extremist views and his hateful rhetoric; and keep hate out of the presidential debate.

  • Keep Families Together: Stop Christian’s Deportation
Christian Hervis-Vazquez, a father of three U.S. Citizens and long time Nevada resident, is set to be deported away from his family any day now. We need to your support in order to keep Christian and his family together. Please sign and share this petition urging ICE to grant Christian Hervis-Vazquez (A-087-958-524) a stay of removal. • Join Us in Thanking Ricardo Aca, an Undocumented Immigrant and DACA Recipient, for Standing Up to...
This is truly a story of “David v Goliath!” Ricardo Aca is an undocumented immigrant who works in a restaurant at one of Donald Trump’s hotels in New York City. He is taking a stand against Trump's vile anti-immigrant policies and rhetoric. Ricardo Aca has taken it upon himself to prove that he, along millions of undocumented immigrants, are an asset to our communities and the country whole. While politicians cower before Trump as they compete for the job of President of the United States, Ricardo is speaking out on behalf of his family and his community --risking his job and livelihood. Recently, Ricardo shared his story through a very touching video. In doing so, Ricardo has stood up against the vile and grotesque attacks that Donald Trump has launched against mexican immigrants. We want to thank Ricardo for standing up to Donald Trump when Republicans won’t!
