• Speaker Boehner: Give us our vote on citizenship
Recently, Speaker of the House John Boehner (R-OH) publicly condemned Rep. Steve King (R-IA) after he despicably claimed that DREAMers have "calves the size of cantaloupes because they're hauling 75 pounds of marijuana across the desert." "What he said does not reflect the values of the American people or the Republican Party," Speaker Boehner said during a press conference. Yet only one month earlier, he allowed Rep. King a vote on his amendment to defund the deferred action program and leave DREAMers vulnerable to deportation. In fact, it's the only immigration-related measure to receive a vote in the House this year. Speaker John Boehner seems to be speaking out of both sides of his mouth. If he can give Rep. Steve King a vote on his hateful amendment to deport DREAMers, why can't he give us a vote on a path to citizenship? We need to tell Speaker Boehner that we deserve a vote on the path to citizenship in the House. While condemning Rep. King's comments was the right thing do to, it's simply not enough. We need a vote too. The House has gone on recess for a month and we know that we have the House members necessary to win a vote on a path to citizenship. Yet Speaker Boehner won't bring it to the floor, instead allowing Rep. King to sit in the driver's seat at the expense of millions of immigrants. It's time for real action. Speaker Boehner has stated in the past that "we need immigration reform.” But voting to deport DREAMers isn't the way to get there. Tell Speaker Boehner to give us our vote on the path to citizenship in the House now.

  • Immigration reform
I know illegals who are hard working & have families. They have been here for 13 years with 3 children, 1 in college who just received her right to a social security card through Pres. Obama's program, and 2 who where born here & are citizens. Their parents need a path to legal citizenship, as do so many other families in this same situation .

  • Put America back to work!
With unemployment still around 7.6% Americans need to work America's jobs. I've recently been working in the oil fields of North Dakota, living in a man camp and surrounded by foreigners working in skilled trades. In Tioga North Dakota on the south end of town is a gasification plant being built by kiewit and MMR construction. This job site employs about 1,500 craftsmen of which 80% are foreign, most likely legally in the United States on work visas. I have recently been in touch with the department of homeland security to seek verification of their legal status in this country. The response I got from I.C.E. was without proof of illegal activity they would be unwilling to conduct an investigation. I'm here to tell the federal government put Americans to work! These migrant workers aren't doing the work we won't do, they are taking a high paying position from an American. Help me convince congress and Obama that Americans should hold American jobs!

  • Bring Danielle Pineault-Dunkin to Washington State.
Danielle Pineault-Dunkin is my Canadian-citizen-sister-in-law who is in the process of receiving her paperwork to become a US citizen now that she has married my US.Veteran-NW Native-Brother, Joshua Dunkin. Joshua and Danielle have been building a long-lasting relationship for the last several years long-distance. She has a Passport + VISA to enter into the United States. Recently, Washington State Boarder Control has DENIED her entrance into the United States because THEY have determined she is planning on "moving" here, not merely coming for a visit. Danielle's US Citizen-Mother lives in Portland Oregon and is ailing of a serious illness. Danielle wants to come and visit her sick mother, and her new husband, BUT WASHINGTON STATE BORDER CONTROL have denied her entrance. What is obvious is Danielle Pineault-Dunkin and her toddler-son ARE planning to move here to the Northwest as United States citizens 'the moment' her paperwork from her recent marriage comes through, as she plans to live with her new husband in Portland, Oregon area. Danielle was told this process takes approximately 6 months. But UNTIL THE PAPERWORK COMES THROUGH, Danielle Pineault-Dunkin and her toddler-son are of NO THREAT to our state or country, and wish to VISIT their new husband|father, extended family, friends + ailing biological mother. Danielle's mother is diagnosed with a serious disease and would love to spend time with Danielle and grandson sooner rather than later. Friends, Local tax-paying citizens and Family are ready to celebrate the new union between Army Veteran + NW Native Joshua Dunkin and Danielle Pineault-Dunkin. We all want to see Danielle Pineault-Dunkin and her toddler son GRANTED ACCESS TO VISIT into the country immediately.

  • Tell House leadership: Condemn Steve King's ugly speech
Rep. Steve King's (IA-R) ugly history of anti-immigrant rhetoric reached a new low this week after telling a conservative website that some DREAMers have "calves the size of cantaloupes because they're hauling 75 pounds of marijuana across the desert." He doubled-down on his attack by claiming that for every valedictorian DREAMer, there are 100 more carrying drugs across the border. Rep. King's attack is nothing new. Last year he compared immigrants to dogs, and then in an Univision interview claimed he meant it as a compliment. Last month he voted to defund DACA, called a group of DREAMers visiting his office "illegal aliens," compared it to an invasion, and then wondered why they hadn't been arrested yet. And now he's accusing those same young Americans of being drug dealers. We need Speaker John Boehner, Rep. Eric Cantor, and Rep. Kevin McCarthy -- the top leaders in the House of Representatives -- to condemn Rep. King's ugly attacks and finally lead. If they don't stand up to him and take command, they are allowing Rep. King to set the agenda in the House and have a platform to spread his hateful views. Demand GOP House leaders John Boehner, Eric Cantor, and Kevin McCarthy lead and condemn Rep. Steve King's attack today.

  • Rep. Ryan: Don't walk back on the path to citizenship
Just last week, Rep. Paul Ryan (WI-R) seemed to be on board the path to citizenship, saying that Republicans must offer "people a path to earned citizenship. We have to invite people to come out of the shadows." Now he seems to have changed his tune, telling a North Dakota radio station this week that immigrants want jobs, not citizenship. "We don't want to push people into citizenship." This isn't the kind of leadership we're looking for. Rep. Ryan knows that a majority of the House of Representatives, the Senate, and the American people support the path to citizenship. So why is he walking back now? In fact, Rep. Ryan seems to be speaking out of both sides of his mouth. In May, he referred to the US-born children of undocumented immigrants using an ugly slur -- "anchor babies" -- while pitching immigration reform to conservative constituents in his home state of Wisconsin. We need Rep. Ryan to be on our side and be a leader on immigration reform in the House. As a former Vice-Presidential nominee and future player in his own party, Rep. Ryan's words influence. He needs to champion reform, not cater to the out-of-touch anti-immigration faction of his party. Tell Rep. Paul Ryan to continue supporting a pathway to citizenship for 11 million Americans without papers.

  • Family Values=Family Unity
Representative Daniel Webster claims that “strong families are indispensable contributors to the prosperity of our nation.” Yet as the House takes up immigration reform he has NOT yet supported immigration reform that keeps families together. Tell Rep. Webster to stand with the families of his district and work to pass comprehensive immigration reform with a pathway to citizenship.

  • Tell Rep. McCarthy: Support Latino and immigrant voters, not extremists like Steve King
Recently, House Republicans held a special meeting on immigration. It could have been a disaster. But instead of Rep. Steve King (R-IA) winning the day with his anti-immigrant message, key Republicans stood up to say they can’t afford not to get this done. Pundits in Washington have been trying to declare immigration reform dead, but our hard work is proving them wrong….again. Both Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) and Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-VA), two of the three top GOP leaders in the House, acknowledged that they "need to move something" on immigration reform. While it's in no way a commitment to a path to citizenship, it’s an important first step. But there’s a third leader in the House we didn't hear from -- Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA). His support is critical because he’s in charge of helping Speaker Boehner gather support in the House. We need to tell Rep. McCarthy to be a leader and speak up in support of the path to citizenship. He needs to stand with Latino and immigrant voters, not extremists like Steve King. The path to citizenship already has majority support in the House -- they just need a chance to vote on it. And with more openness from Speaker Boehner and Rep. Cantor, we’ll keep fighting till we get a vote. But an extreme minority in the House, led by Steve King, could disrupt all of that. His anti-immigrant vitriol could derail all the positive gains we've made so far, all because leaders in the House aren't leading. We need Rep. McCarthy to speak up now and gather support in his party. As a Congressman from California, McCarthy knows Latinos have the power to influence -- in fact, they ousted Republicans statewide after anti-immigrant legislation in the 1990s. Rep. McCarthy’s own district is over 30% Latino. Will Rep. McCarthy learn from history, or let Steve King repeat it?

  • Tell Rep. Heck to support immigration reform with a pathway to citizenship
In America we believe that everyone is equal, period. But that's not how our current immigration system works. Under our current immigration laws, immigrants currently living in the US without papers have no way to fix their immigration status and pursue the rights obtained through citizenship. These immigrants -- many of whom are American in every way but on paper -- are doomed to a life in shadows. They are prevented from doing things many US citizens take for granted, like driving, working, applying for credit cards, and even from visiting sick family members overseas. The Senate just passed an immigration bill that will would fix this tragedy by creating a pathway to citizenship for these 11 million Americans without papers. Through this pathway, students, workers, family members, and even some immigrants with deportation orders under the previous broken system would finally be allowed to pursue their American dream and eventual citizenship. Advocates have been fighting for these reforms for years, and we have never seen a better chance for making these dreams a reality. But some anti-immigrant members of Congress -- lead by legislators like Rep. Steve King -- are trying to kill reform by destroying the path to citizenship and promoting inhumane policies that would keep these 11 million people in the shadows so they "self-deport." Our movement has reached a tipping point and we need your help to finish the job. We need you to tell Rep. Joe Heck to support immigration reform with the pathway to citizenship, now more than ever. It's time for Congress to pass this bill. Please tell your representative to vote YES on immigration reform with a pathway to citizenship for the 11 million Americans without papers.
