  • Bicycle safety in St Augustine
It's about getting sidewalks and street lights on some of the side roads where there are none and need to be, as well as stricter speed enforcement. My other half and I have been affected by there not being any lights or sidewalks on some of the roads. I got hit by a driver on King's Estate in November; two days after my accident, a guy got killed on Hilltop Road. We ride our bikes and walk these roads to get to and from work and stores as well as other places.. Pedestrians are disregarded by drivers on those roads, and feel unsafe walking, let alone riding bikes on the roads out of fear of being hit.

  • Stop the Speeding by Naples Elementary School
I live on The Toledo in Naples, Long Beach. Every day, especially around rush hour, I've noticed cars speeding by way too fast for a neighborhood, especially since Naples Elementary School is on The Toledo. There are signs of course, but signs are easy to ignore. There should be speed bumps on either side of the school, which is also the stretch of the street where drivers can reach their highest speeds.

  • End Horse Slaughter
Our horses shaped America and we need to stand up for them. The horses of this country are companion animals and are to be kept that way. The horses shipped to slaughter are in a living hell before they are cruelly killed and slaughtered. I have a daily concern that my precious horse could be stolen and shipped to a slaughter house. Please share a horse lover's concern.

  • Marijuana in Cherokee
Due to the recent changes in federal law. The western North Carolina band of Cherokee Native Americans and EBCI council can now grow and sale medical Marijuana to thier tribe and to those who are in need of pain relief within it without risk of addiction or worse. As I myself lost my only sister to a legally sold and taxed synthetic marijuana, trying to pass a probation screening. If you wish to do more or reach the tribal members you may do so here.. http://theonefeather.com/cherokee-elected-officials Thanks Casey Lee

  • Accountability for those who authorized torture
Citizens of the United States do not wish our agents to use torture under any circumstances. It is not only wrong, it will result in harm to our troops and other citizens. Nothing Dick Cheney or the head of the CIA can say will change the fact that the end does not justify the means. The US is in violation of the Geneva Convention and our own laws. The Nation says: "Human experimentation was a core feature of the CIA’s torture program. The experimental nature of the interrogation and detention techniques is clearly evident in the Senate Intelligence Committee’s executive summary of its investigative report, despite redactions (insisted upon by the CIA) to obfuscate the locations of these laboratories of cruel science and the identities of perpetrators. At the helm of this human experimentation project were two psychologists hired by the CIA, James Mitchell and Bruce Jessen. They designed interrogation and detention protocols that they and others applied to people imprisoned in the agency’s secret “black sites.” In its response to the Senate report, the CIA justified its decision to hire the duo: “We believe their expertise was so unique that we would have been derelict had we not sought them out when it became clear that CIA would be heading into the uncharted territory of the program.” Mitchell and Jessen’s qualifications did not include interrogation experience, specialized knowledge about Al Qaeda or relevant cultural or linguistic knowledge. What they had was Air Force experience in studying the effects of torture on American prisoners of war, as well as a curiosity about whether theories of “learned helplessness” derived from experiments on dogs might work on human enemies. To implement those theories, Mitchell and Jessen oversaw or personally engaged in techniques intended to produce “debility, disorientation and dread.” Their “theory” had a particular means-ends relationship that is not well understood, as Mitchell testily explained in an interview on Vice News: “The point of the bad cop is to get the bad guy to talk to the good cop.” In other words, “enhanced interrogation techniques” (the Bush administration’s euphemism for torture) do not themselves produce useful information; rather, they produce the condition of total submission that will facilitate extraction of actionable intelligence."
