I was unaware of the practices of Halal approved food processing and believe the methods of animal slaughter is barbaric and unnecessary cruel torture. I also am not Islamic and do not want Islamic declarations or processes performed on products that I purchase. This should be a right of all Americans to know if they are purchasing Halal approved products.

Verizon Wireless is discontinuing monthly discounts for customers who have retired from affiliated employers and/or organizations. It's purely a revenue issue for Verizon. It began when Verizon wooed and smoooozed large employers; seeing an opportunity to attract thousands of customers, all at once. A 5-20% discount was an genius marketing tool and strategy that could be easily absorbed; compared to the millions to be made with the potential thousands of new customers. The organization I retired from had over 2.6 million employees. Verizon was mesmerized by the shear number of potential customers with these contracts, and reverification was obviously not a Verizon company policy or standard. They have not monitored "the discount"; because this is the first time I've had to reverify my employment. Consequently now, I would imagine, Verizon has thousands of customers who are receiving the discount still, after terminating employment with the original employer, which qualified them to get the discount. When I received my notice to reverify my discount, I promptly called Verizon to learn where to send my annuity statement. I was quickly told "Oh No, you are retired." Since I'd never been asked to reverify my employment and/or association, in four years, I assumed the discount was for retirees too. In my organization the previous retirees never said, "Oh, when you retire you will loose your Verizon discount." I would also imagine that most other retirees have had opportunities, over the years, to switch to a different carrier, but did not and have stayed as happy satisfied loyal customers. In today's toilet economy, with companies laying off people, downsizing, closings, etc. there are thousands of people stampeding towards the retirement door. Verizon sees, with tunnel vision, the potential of the money to be made off the thousands who have, and will retire. A 5-20% revenue jump, times thousands of retirees, should look pretty good on the bottom line. It's very unfair of Verizon to create this system, to get our business, not monitor it, and now suddenly decide to terminate it, without warning. This is a knee jerk impulsive attempt to make millions. We retirees are on limited incomes; usually a fraction of our former salaries. Thousands of us may well take our celluar telephone business elsewere.

The addition of another 1000 cars daily on Waukegan Road is a safety, health and noise issue. The gateway to Northbrook should not be a gas station/car wash/convenience store. The site is surrounded by retirees who already must contend with a busy roadway. The addition of this kind of traffic would be creating a very dangerous situation.

Really, Can anyone justify not labeling GMO Content? We deserve the right to know what is in our food!

Every year the craze of the season is slowly cutting into the holidays which have been mostly preserved over the years. The goal of this petition is to collect as many signatures as possible between now and the holiday season of 2014. This petition will be sent to all business who choose to open the doors for business on Thanksgiving and Christmas. Please help preserve our holidays and share this with all your friends and family. The production and sale of animal skins is morally wrong and inhumane, causing millions of innocent animals to be slaughtered every year in the name of fashion in the most cruel of ways, even skinned alive. Animal skins should be banned from the United States completely and fur farms shut down for good. Animals should be protected and seen as creatures who suffer and feel instead of fashion items.

As a person with a child, I understand having responsibilities to someone other than myself. We have a right to know what we are feeding our children, not to mention ourselves. I demand disclosure on the presence of GMOs in my child's food. Let us join our voices in demanding this basic right to know.

We have a right to know if the foods we are buying have GMOs in them. In more than 60 countries around the world there are significant restrictions or outright bans on the production and sale of GMOs. Tell the South Carolina legislature to give us freedom to know what we are putting in our bodies.

A deliberate distortion and failure of journalism in the presentation of Benghazi attack, all intended to embarrass and slander the President of the United States and his former Secretary of State. Knowingly broadcasting a false story by an admitted liar Lara Logan is not an objective journalist. She lied. She must be fired.

Since I've started high school, there have been three suicides. The most recent one just days ago. All of these have been caused by bullying. Our school says that bullying is bad but they haven't taken any action to help end it. If we had a bullying hotline, we could help others so much. A lot of us see bullying everyday and do nothing about it because we're so scared of being bullied. Most of us have personally been bullied. It's a scary thing to go through and it needs to stop. Suicide is the third leading cause of death for teens. With a bullying hotline, that many other schools use, people who are bullied can call or even text a number and would get help. People who see bullying can do the same. This way, there is less fear. The sad thing is, is that the school was offered this program and rejected it. Living in Sigma/West has its benefits, an own bathroom, a bigger room and space. But when it comes to dorm meetings and birthdays of friends we face the drawbacks. No lounge to meet in, no kitchen to bake the cake in. We too have the right for a "place to hang out" in!

As concerned citizens of and visitors to San Juan Island and Friday Harbor, we believe that placing the new Customs and Border Patrol offices with additional space and facilities required under the Dept. of Homeland Security in the downtown core would be a serious mistake. While we recognize the role of CBP in the continued safety of our island and country , we believe the corner of First and Spring St., the heart of Friday Harbor's downtown, is an inappropriate location for a government security facility. We are disappointed by the lack of transparency and public input into a decision which will affect the way our tax dollars are spent and alter the face of this small community through the coming decade. We want this move halted until a satisfactory impact study is provided and the public is engaged in the decision making process. This petition is intended to create additional support for this cause when presenting the issue at the upcoming community forum Mon. Nov. 25 , 2013 in Friday Harbor Wa. It is meant to encourage the online support of those who cannot attend and all who are in favor of taking these concerns to a higher level and being heard.
