On behalf of the Amazon personal shoppers, we have have been working diligently at Whole Foods Stores to help put food on the table to thousands of individuals during this COVID-19 pandemic. Sadly, after our hard day's work and end of shifts- we end up going, yet to another supermarket or a 99cents store in the hope of finding food we can afford- as we do not receive the 20% discount that all the whole foods employees receive. We wait in long lines outside with inclement weather, instead of shopping where we work, and go home to get a good nights rest. With your help, the 20% discount extended to Amazon personal shopper employees (as all the Whole Foods employees receive currently), would also have a greater benefit in getting to know the products personally, that we sell to customers. It would mean providing knowledgeable replacements- and that can only happen if we buy the items and try them personally. Independent Beauty Professionals rely on the income from clients. We cannot perform a haircut online. While the “beauty industry is deemed “Non essential”, the ability to practice our craft and make a living is very ESSENTIAL to our livelihood. A lot of us did not qualify for Unemployment. A lot of us did not receive any business Loans. A lot of us have not received a Stimulus Check yet. We are facing a grave financial hardship.

There is absolutely no need to have all the lights and advertisements going 24/7 when there’s no one there to see them anyway. It’s 100% waste.

Millions of Americans have been asked to stay home from work and school in order to stop the spread of coronavirus. That's hard to do without access to high speed broadband. The United States still has a huge digital divide. Many homes don't have reliable internet or broadband. Some workers are using dialup to connect to their job. Some parents are using cell phones to get access to their children's schoolwork. It's unfair and unjust that millions of Americans are going every day without access to the internet during this pandemic. Congress is debating the next round of stimulus and is considering including billions for broadband. But it's in danger of getting cut out once again. We need your help right now to make sure this passes.

Americans still want to believe in the power and beauty of democracy in our United States. We value the citizens, voters and voices in our communities. We respect and value women, we believe women. So while we also believe that a person is innocent until proven guilty, we cannot in good conscience vote for a candidate who has looming sexual assault allegations. All voters deserve a candidate who is free from such controversies and the DNC needs to take the accusations against Mr. Biden as seriously as its voters do. It is unconscionable that the Democratic Party would support a candidate with so many potential skeletons in his closet, especially in our post-MeToo culture. By supporting Biden as the nominee, the DNC would effectively be saying they don’t believe women. By moving forward with Biden as the nominee, the DNC would also be alienating voters who demand a candidate be not only a smart choice but an ethical one. We need a candidate we can vote for without becoming a party of hypocrites (only outraged when the accused isn't one of our own). If the DNC provides no alternative to Biden as the presidential nominee, they will be degrading their own integrity. The result will be disillusioned voters and fewer people voting for the Democratic candidate in November. We won’t simply “vote blue no matter who” because we will NOT be manipulated by fear of another Trump presidency. The danger of losing our own integrity and of losing strength in the Democratic Party (making way for future Trumps to be elected) is far greater. We won’t “vote blue no matter who” when we haven’t been given a candidate who deserves of our votes. We will vote our conscience for a candidate who represents the honesty and respectability that we want our country’s name to evoke. We will not settle for less. The DNC must not make Joe Biden our nominee. There are alternatives. Please show us that we can still be proud to vote blue, and that the Democratic Party is still a party with integrity. There’s no limit to what we can do with a united party, but we may not be able win in November if we don’t get everyone on board with a candidate we can trust! We know our voices matter: if you want to count on our votes, first be a party we can count on.

Major platforms including MoveOn agree: America's weak and inconsistent emergency response has let the Covid-19 pandemic kill thousands more people than necessary. And it's not over. Trump squandered precious weeks -- denying, delaying and lying about emergency preparedness and the severity of Covid-19. "A hoax," he said, "like impeachment." Let's give credit where credit is due: it's the Trump Virus. This is important for three reasons: 1) Naming is powerful. Trump named this pandemic the "Chinese Virus", prompting hatemongering and random assaults on Asian-Americans. It's time to flip the script. 2) Naming is framing. It frames public policy by telling folks what to think. Under Trump and the GOP, for instance, longtime protections in federal law become "job-killing regulations". 3) To drive out Trump in November, we need to tie him to this disaster in people's minds, welded like steel. Designating Election Day as a university holiday is important in increasing voter turnout and promoting civic engagement among students, faculty, and staff at Binghamton University. On-campus polling sites and early voting have both helped in this endeavor but fall short of allowing students the proper time to vote. 47% of college students cite being too busy as their primary reason for not voting. Having Election Day designated as a university holiday would free students of the time constraint of having to attend hours of classes on Election Day. In 2019, New York amended the Paid Voting Leave Law to allow voters to take up to three hours from work to cast their ballot on Election Day. Still, no provision exists allowing students time off from class to vote. The University of Montana is closed on Election Day in even-numbered years, and in New York, Columbia University treats Election Day as a university holiday with the cancelation of all classes. Making Election Day a state and national holiday is already a legislative priority at the state and federal levels for many lawmakers. Binghamton University could be at the forefront of this movement by designating Election Day as a university holiday. While the university already cancels classes for a number of holidays meant for observation, cancelling classes on Election Day would serve a practical purpose by allowing the Binghamton University community the opportunity to exercise their right to vote. Together, through this initiative, we can help uplift the underrepresented voice of today’s youth. Please join us in urging President Stenger to designate Election Day as a university holiday.

Once the worst of the pandemic is over and it is considered safe to travel, there will be a tremendous backlog of people applying for passports and renewals. This will hurt the travel industry even more than it is hurting right now, not only here, but all over the world. Also, many people have to travel on business. Many of them can't work remotely.

Statement Re Detained Asylum Seekers at the Port Isabel Detention Center, Texas We are writing to express our grave concern about the ongoing detention of numerous asylum seekers in the ICE Port Isabel Detention Center, Los Fresnos, Texas. The great majority of these persons have never committed a crime. Moreover, they have families with legal status here in the United States who are eager to take them in while their immigration cases are processed. Prior to this administration, release of these migrants to their families would have been routine. These asylum seekers are now in danger of contracting the Corona Virus, or Covid-19, and suffering severe illness and even death. They must be released to family and friends forthwith. Keeping them in long term, unjustified detention under these conditions is the moral equivalent of locking them into a burning building. Hygienic conditions and medical care at this facility are shocking even during the best of times. The conditions are now unconscionable. The asylum seekers do not receive soap, only small packets of shampoo in the morning. Soap they must purchase on their own through the commissary if they can. The guards, arriving from their homes, walk in and out of the dormitories without gloves or masks, and go from one dorm to the other in this manner throughout the day. There are 70 men to a dormitory so social distancing is impossible. The men also eat in their dorms, with food workers bringing in the food trays, with gloved hands but no masks. There are four toilet bowls in each dorm, standing out in the open without any screens. These are cleaned in the morning and evening, but no cleaning materials are available in between. These conditions fly in the face of the precautions we are all required to respect. Many of the detainees have serious health problems. It is a matter of time until the virus strikes, and the results will be devastating. We know that the detainees have brought these concerns to the facility’s officers, but to no avail. The detainees also initiated a hunger strike on Monday, March 30, 2020. We understand that there is a grave risk of retaliation and intimidation should it continue. We demand that all migrants in the Port Isabel Detention Center be immediately released to their friends and family unless they have a criminal record clearly indicating a danger to society. In the midst of the health and economic problems currently facing our country, our military people who are brave enough to serve do so deployed in forward areas. It is the individual Soldier, Sailor, Airman, or Marine who forms the basic unit of our national defense. Our servicemembers who serve, do so depending on the officers assigned above them. Their lives depend on those officers entrusted with their care. In reciprocal fashion, commanders cannot fulfill their objectives if their personnel are inadequately supplied, or have medical concerns. A commanding officer is completely ineffective without operational personnel. Navy Captain Brett Crozier acted expediently to garner attention to the medical needs of his crew. We respectfully demand proper attention be given to Captain Crozier's crew, to absolve Captain Crozier of any wrongdoing in seeking prompt medical attention for his crew, and to initiate an investigation into the competency of those who would place blame of Captain Crozier instead of initiating immediate action to provide medical supplies and replacement crew members in the most expedient fashion. Ironically, Acting Navy Secretary Modly said, “Capt. The individual serving as Secretary of the Navy could follow Captain Crozier's exemplary action by placing those brave personnel in the highest priority as well. Such consideration could be a giant leap toward restoring the US Navy's great example of military strength.
