PETITION TO PUT IN A 4-WAY STOP AT LAKE ROYAL AND BEVERLY GLENWe, the residents of Valencia Reserve appreciate the efforts of the VR Reserve Safety Committee and were pleased to hear that a 4-way stop is under consideration. We urge you to vote YES to this change. Many of us have experienced close encounters with cars travelling east / west on Lake Royal Blvd that failed to yield to pedestrians who were in the middle of the intersection. It is especially dangerous at night. Street lighting is minimal and drivers have difficulty seeing pedestrians. Also, due to the contours of the road, drivers exiting Vizcaya have difficulty seeing oncoming cars or judging the speed at which they are approaching. Collisions and injuries are inevitable. Any inconvenience that this 4-way intersection may cause pales in consideration with the serious injuries and deaths that will occur if the intersection is not altered. Please recommend to the entire Board that this intersection be made safer with the change to a 4-way stop. Thank you44 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Jay Mayer

Expand Programs and Choices for DeafBlind PeopleDeafBlind individuals, particularly those who use Tactile ASL and are interested in culturally and linguistically affirmative DeafBlind services (the DeafBlind Way) experience oppression at the Helen Keller National Center (HKNC). DeafBlind individuals still attend training at HKNC because there are no other programs to choose from. This is because funding is specifically set up by congress for HKNC. If congress makes this funding (money) available for multiple organizations/agencies (apply for grants), it will open the door to competitive programs. Having competition encourages innovation (new ideas and technology), accountability (making sure money is managed the right way, making sure people are not oppressed), and opportunities for DeafBlind Self-Representation (DeafBlind leadership).1,317 of 2,000 SignaturesCreated by Jelica Nuccio

Food assistance for children with food allergiesWe are a family of five and we have recently discovered that two of our three children have several food allergies, including wheat, egg, peanuts, and soy. While we are relieved to know what has been plaguing our children and keeping them so ill all this time, it has caused our grocery bill to double! We are really struggling to keep up with just basic necessities!19 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Kelli Holloway

Save the Lower Township Municipal Utilities Authority!Since 1968, the LTMUA has provided members of Lower Township, NJ with exceptional and affordable water and sewage utilities – while remaining under budget. Now, a selected few Township officials, with a personal vendetta, are attempting to dissolve the LTMUA for an alleged “$1 million in savings,” but they aren’t taking into account the negative impact on our community. We refuse to watch our fellow neighbors be burdened with the financial hardships, unemployment and diminished service quality, simply to save a quick buck. Support our fight to save the LTMUA – it’s what’s right for Lower Township! Learn more at: www.LTWaterOurWay.wordpress.com64 of 100 SignaturesCreated by The Lower Township Water Our Way Coalition

save sheltered workshops for developmentally disabledI worked in a sheltered workshop for over 8 years. I had the opportunity to assist individuals with developmental disabilities with social skills and personal hygiene, while they felt the sense of self-worth by performing work tasks and received supplemental income. The federal government wants to close sheltered workshops, where will these individuals go?56 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Tabitha Smith

Tell Detroit to Turn On the Taps: Water is a Human RightThe campaign below is from Monica Lewis-Patrick, a ColorOfChange member and local organizer in Detroit, MI. Can you join Monica in pressuring Gov. Rick Snyder and Emergency Manager Kevyn Orr to ensure safe and affordable water and sanitation for all Detroit families, and share with your friends and family? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- It's a crisis. The city of Detroit has unjustly shut off the water of thousands of low-income Black and brown Detroit residents, threatening their health, safety, and livelihood. And matters are only set to get worse.(1) Residents who owe as little as $33 are having their water shut off with no warning. Seniors, the sick and injured, and families with special needs are left without running water and working toilets. People recovering from surgery cannot wash and change bandages. Children cannot bathe and parents cannot cook. And while the people suffer, the corporations are protected. The city of Detroit provides water at wholesale price to the wealthy suburbs; however city residents pay retail price for the water they receive. The city of Detroit provides water at wholesale price to the wealthy suburbs; however city residents pay retail price for the water they receive. Palmer Park Golf Course owes $422,000 the VA Hospitial $131,000, yet they continue to have water.(2) As well, Emergency Manager Kevyn Orr gave Gov. Snyder a pass on the Michigan's $4.5 million unpaid water bill of by reducing the state's debt to $113,000. Only $19,000 has been paid to date. Entire families and their livelihoods are on the line. If parents cannot afford to restore water service within 60 days they are at risk of having Social Services remove their children from the home.(3) If water bills remain unpaid a lien can be placed on the home and the home can be sold. (4) This must stop NOW! The plan to cut off water to 150,000 households by the end of the summer is part of efforts sell off and privatize Detroit’s water system for corporate profits.(5) In order to make the utility attractive to investors, lower-income households are being forced to pay exorbitant rates for their water and sewer services, or see their access cut. Water rates have risen in Detroit by 119% in the last decade.(6) With unemployment rates at a record high, and the poverty rate at about 40%, Detroit water bills are unaffordable to a massive portion of the community. (7) Hundreds of thousands of low-income Black families are at risk. The city's water shut offs are in line with decades of racially discriminatory policies targeting Black and brown Detroiters, which have resulted in unjust home seizures, the separation of children from their parents, and the creation of serious health risks to entire neighborhoods.(8) By allowing thousands of people to be denied access to water and sanitation services, the U.S. government is violating the United Nations resolution codifying the human right to water and sanitation. Show your solidarity with the people in Detroit and join Progressive Democrats for America, National Nurses United, NetRoots attendees, and local Detroit activists for a rally at Hart Plaza at 1pm on Friday, July 18th where we will make send our message loud and clear to Gov. Too Many Kids in Arizona Go HungryRight now, the childhood hunger problem in America is inexcusably big – affecting more than 1 in 5 children. We know that adequate food and good nutrition, particularly in a young child’s life, has a very important impact on a child’s capacity for future learning and on their lifelong economic productivity. But our leaders are not giving this problem the attention it warrants. For decades, Republicans and Democrats have come together to support programs like the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). Research shows that kids who get help from programs like SNAP do better in school and better in life. But hunger in America is big and is getting worse as income inequality becomes more extreme. This is a trend that we need to reverse now. We need to show our state and federal officials that Arizonans have had enough of hungry kids. It's time to end childhood hunger. Sign our pledge to show your support.138 of 200 SignaturesCreated by Kimberley Pope
