• Shade Canopies for Mountview Park in CH, UT
Dear Honorable Mayor Kelvyn Cullimore, Jr. and Councilman Mike Peterson: The purpose of this petition is to draw community support in favor of providing shade structures for both playgrounds and around the splash pad area of Mountview Park. I am reaching out to you on behalf of Moms Offering Moms Support (MOMS) Club of Cottonwood Heights and Holladay, UT. We are a non-profit organization, supporting moms in our community, through voluntary events, programs and service projects. Our goals for this shade project is to raise awareness for sun protection and seek viable shade solutions for our area parks that lack protection from the sun's harmful rays. Our initial steps, as suggested by Councilman Peterson (in an earlier conversation), are two-fold: 1. Select one park in need. We have chosen to focus our attention and efforts onto Mountview Park (in interest of popularity, time and resources). This park draws dozens of community members daily for it's playground areas and splash pad. 2. Seek out interest and support from Cottonwood Heights residents. We are doing so with this petition. I've heard from area residents that the playground equipment at Mountview Park can be very hot on high temperature days and there is minimal shade throughout. The trees initially planted are few, far between, and too young to provide the shade necessary to block the heat, UVA and UVB rays. I've often seen individuals or groups bring their tents for their own protection. However, I feel this is not enough, and we as a community can and should do more to protect our children in these play spaces. According to the Utah Cancer Registry, Utah ranks the highest in Melanoma cases across the country. (For more information, please follow link to original article: http://www.deseretnews.com/article/865607746/Utah-leads-the-nation-in-deadly-melanoma-cases.html?pg=all ). These are alarming statistics and prevention is key. Please help us in doing so. We thank you for your time and look forward toward a collaborative solution. • Save North Bay Petaluma Post Office Stop the Closure
The closure of the Northbay Petaluma DDC building will greatly delay all of Northern California coast's mail. All residents will be adversely affected. For example, customer who receive their medicine by mail may have to wait longer to receive prescriptions. There will also be a large environmental impact due to the extra transportation needed to move the mail. This will effect over 200 jobs and will impact the community greatly in lost revenue as well. We urge you to save our Postal Service.

  • Help Veterans Get the Treatment They Deserve
Nobody is prepared for the sort of devastating impact being in a war can cause. My brother Jacob has been serving time in the San Luis Obispo county jail, specifically in solitary (for three months), and I don't believe he deserves such treatment. He suffers from PTSD, depression and traumatic brain injury from an IED, and, at the very least, for his service and sacrifice, he should be given the treatment he needs to reintigrate with society and be with his family, who hopes and prays for his well-being as his situation seems to make him worse. Please sign today to help not only him, but thousands of other lost heroes throughout the states.

  • Save Lake County Library Services Now!
The Lake County Library system needs your help because we are in danger of losing our only Reference Librarian in the county and the Upper Lake library is in danger of closing -- forever. The reason this is happening is because in December 2011 the State cut all funding for libraries to ZERO. The library still has a dedicated property tax, voted in by tax payers in 1974, but without State funding it's not enough. The Library has had to pull from its savings to continue operating. All the fat has been cut from the budget (with landscaping set to be jettisoned), and the only thing left is vital library services. The Lake County Board of Supervisors will be considering options to reduce library expenses on September 23, 2014. If you're fortunate enough to HAVE email, use it to let the County Supervisors know how important library services are in our communities. Just say "Please don't cut library services on Tuesday -- they are our only PUBLIC education resources for local residents."

  • Pay social security disability when needed. Sign this petition and it will happen.
I have been disabled (unable to work) since December 18, 2012, and have received nothing from a system that I have paid into for over 45 years. I worked 30 of those years here in the state of Nevada. I like many others here in this state have no recourse. The governor's office has been of no help. I am a U.S. Army Veteran and now I need your help.

  • Stop the approval practices of New York City's Adult Family Intake Center and The Department of H...
The New York City DHS (Department of Homeless Services) and AFIC (Adult Family Intake Center) approval processes for homeless families do not provide the resources or stability that families need in order to overcome poverty. I am asking that ONCE A FAMILY IS PLACED IN TEMPORARY SHELTER THEY ARE NOT REMOVED UNTIL PERMANENT HOUSING IS AVAILABLE. THAT THE FAMILIES ARE PLACED IN ONE SHELTER AND NOT BOUNCED AROUND, AND THAT THE FUNDS (which range from $2,000-$3,800 especially if you have kids) BE UTILIZED TO PERMANENTLY HOUSE THE FAMILIES IN CO-OPS, DUPLEX HOUSING, AND PRIVATE HOUSES.
