• Accessibility: Check your ability before you get to the door
I have a chronic disability. I still work and I need access to doors and ramps and seating for the disabled and elderly because I am in pain and cannot sit or stand for long. The non-disabled and non-elderly are seeing the convenience of accessibility for the disabled and elderly and are sitting in priority seating, using disabled doors, ramps and disabled parking spaces, when they do not need them. In a shopping center in Chicago there are five doors and only one door is accessible for the disabled. Based on general traffic lane usage, if I am walking and the disabled door is on my left I have to cross over into on-coming pedestrian traffic and traffic does not stop. I either have to wait for approximately 20 non-disabled, non-elderly people to pass before someone stops and lets me pass or I can walk into them…I have done both…Companies and transit will only do what is minimally required by the ADA; are they following or “quoting” federal law?...accessibility is intended for those who need assistance. support: "CHECK YOUR ABILITY BEFORE YOU GET TO THE DOOR !!!"

  • Families left behind.
My ex left 5 years ago, as the breadwinner, he left behind a full time mom/ part time income earner with two boys, ages 10 and 12. It was almost a year later before any child support was put into place. Partly because I believed the man I had been married to for 12 years would help his family and not let them go hungry or homeless, and partly because of the cost, up front, for a lawyer. After the shock wore off and I was faced with the reality of a lifestyle that was maintained by a two- income family, I downsized as much as possible and worked more hours. I also went back to school and retooled as a nurse. During that time i was on foodstamps , free school lunches and student loans. But, if there had been a safety net in place, as soon as my ex decided to leave the family, his income could have been garnished to support his children. There are child support worksheets already in place. This tool should be implemented within 30/60? days of the change in income due to the person abandoning the financial responsibilitied of the family. The family needs to be considered as an entity, therefore anything that disrupts the financial stability needs to be addressed in a timely fashion. This is something I am very passionate about and I am just starting. I am putting this out there as a grass roots movement to protect our families left behind.

  • Social Security offices to Provide Government Issued Photo IDs
Government issued photo IDs provided by Social Security offices (these offices exist all around the country) would be a very cost effective and rapid way to end voter identification and voter registration problems. One card maker machine, one camera, one (or two) trained staff member at each office could handle all persons arriving at their offices requesting a photo ID card. As you know, almost every citizen of the United States has a Social Security number and has some dealings with our government. Issue the cards free of charge.

  • Fix ALL Michigan Transportation
UPDATE JUNE 13th: The legislature AGAIN failed to act in passing a comprehensive transportation bill. And now they're on vacation for the summer. Keep contacting your legislators so they know this is NOT acceptable. Michigan roads need serious work. Michigan buses need serious work. So do our trains, ports, and trails. I get around Michigan lots of different ways and have seen the damage neglecting our roads and transit has caused. To make Michigan successful today and in the future, we need to invest in transportation!

  • Funding For Treatment For Addicts And Families of Addicts In New Hampshire
New Hampshire Addicts are denied access to treatment on a daily basis. They are put on endless waiting lists and this is inhumane. Addiction is a disease and should be treated as such. Resources for Addicts and their family members is almost non existent here in NH. Prisons are overflowing with addicts, and yet there are no programs for treatment in place. I am the mother of a recovering addict and an advocate for all whom this disease has touched.

  • No More Needless Deaths On The Street!
On Tuesday April 8, 2014, in Warwick, a childhood friend of mine was found dead in a ditch; he was homeless. It saddens me no end to realize that Joey Graham had laid there in that ditch while dying and he had no help or resources to aide him. Such an injustice for all humanity.

  • Tell Corbett: NO MORE CUTS!
Just yesterday we learned of another tragedy in the Philadelphia schools, a young boy dying in a school without a full-time nurse due to Corbett-inspired budget cuts. At least there are roving nurses; with more cuts even they may go. My kids are now adults but graduates of a proud public school system that Corbett has brought to its knees. We cannot tolerate any further blows to our schools and call ourselves a civilized society.

  • Protect In Home Care Recipients and Providers from....
As the legislation is written, IHSS Care Providers will not be allowed to work more than 40 hours per week. At the limited wages currently, quality of care will be effected, requiring outside providers to fill the gap. Very often there is no qualified outside help. If we go over the hours we will be penalized.

  • City Landscaping funds should go to FREE FOOD in our community
AS food becomes increasingly expensive, communities and citizens can solve this problem while contributing to the betterment of society at the same time. Money is already being spent on landscaping and flowers; I ask that a portion of this money be slotted to FREE FOOD projects throughout our city-owned growing spaces. This type of project has proven to not only bring more accessible fresh food to the citizens, but also bring citizens to connect to each other in their communities. This makes the whole community stronger, healthier and more sustainable. Also, imagine the "accidental" education that will occur and inspire others to grow some food in their own neighborhood.

  • We the Unemployed Do Not Support Violence in any Form and We Would like to Offer Our Sincere Apol...
This Petition was started, because we the unemployed need to ensure that Mrs. Boehner and the Public are aware that the actions of one do not reflect the beliefs of us all, and that we do not support Violence in any way. We are scared and we feel abandoned by our Government. We actively stand up for Our Liberties as “We the People” to have our inalienable Rights of “Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness”. In order for us to have these Rights, we must be able to obtain reliable and gainful employment. Unfortunately there are over 10 million people in this Country unemployed and less then 4 million jobs, which means that too many people are struggling on a daily basis just to feed themselves and care for their families, let alone have a roof over their heads. This situation creates a fear within people that is beyond devastating, and sadly, not all can endure this rationally. We will continue to do our best to seek each other out to offer support, resources and encouragement to remain strong and hopeful that this will all end, and someday every person in this Country will have a chance at reliable and gainful employment. We have created a website that lists information for public resources, support, job information, veteran information and much more. www.empoweringpeoplewithavoice.com We also have many support groups as well, that are designed to reach out to the unemployed and give them a place to come together and help each other. We have dedicated our lives to ensuring that everyone who wants a job will be able to obtain one in the future, as well as to the support of each other during this national crisis. We will continue to do our best to reach out to everyone that is unemployed, and ensure that they are encouraged not to commit any violent acts in any form, but please understand that although we do our best, we are unable to ensure that everyone complies. Thank you for your understanding in this matter, and I hope that we can show you that we are so very truly sorry about what has happened.
