• Save the Lower Township Municipal Utilities Authority!
Since 1968, the LTMUA has provided members of Lower Township, NJ with exceptional and affordable water and sewage utilities – while remaining under budget. Now, a selected few Township officials, with a personal vendetta, are attempting to dissolve the LTMUA for an alleged “$1 million in savings,” but they aren’t taking into account the negative impact on our community. We refuse to watch our fellow neighbors be burdened with the financial hardships, unemployment and diminished service quality, simply to save a quick buck. Support our fight to save the LTMUA – it’s what’s right for Lower Township! Learn more at: www.LTWaterOurWay.wordpress.com

  • save sheltered workshops for developmentally disabled
I worked in a sheltered workshop for over 8 years. I had the opportunity to assist individuals with developmental disabilities with social skills and personal hygiene, while they felt the sense of self-worth by performing work tasks and received supplemental income. The federal government wants to close sheltered workshops, where will these individuals go?

  • Tell Detroit to Turn On the Taps: Water is a Human Right
The campaign below is from Monica Lewis-Patrick, a ColorOfChange member and local organizer in Detroit, MI. Can you join Monica in pressuring Gov. Rick Snyder and Emergency Manager Kevyn Orr to ensure safe and affordable water and sanitation for all Detroit families, and share with your friends and family? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- It's a crisis. The city of Detroit has unjustly shut off the water of thousands of low-income Black and brown Detroit residents, threatening their health, safety, and livelihood. And matters are only set to get worse.(1) Residents who owe as little as $33 are having their water shut off with no warning. Seniors, the sick and injured, and families with special needs are left without running water and working toilets. People recovering from surgery cannot wash and change bandages. Children cannot bathe and parents cannot cook. And while the people suffer, the corporations are protected. The city of Detroit provides water at wholesale price to the wealthy suburbs; however city residents pay retail price for the water they receive. The city of Detroit provides water at wholesale price to the wealthy suburbs; however city residents pay retail price for the water they receive. Palmer Park Golf Course owes $422,000 the VA Hospitial $131,000, yet they continue to have water.(2) As well, Emergency Manager Kevyn Orr gave Gov. Snyder a pass on the Michigan's $4.5 million unpaid water bill of by reducing the state's debt to $113,000. Only $19,000 has been paid to date. Entire families and their livelihoods are on the line. If parents cannot afford to restore water service within 60 days they are at risk of having Social Services remove their children from the home.(3) If water bills remain unpaid a lien can be placed on the home and the home can be sold. (4) This must stop NOW! The plan to cut off water to 150,000 households by the end of the summer is part of efforts sell off and privatize Detroit’s water system for corporate profits.(5) In order to make the utility attractive to investors, lower-income households are being forced to pay exorbitant rates for their water and sewer services, or see their access cut. Water rates have risen in Detroit by 119% in the last decade.(6) With unemployment rates at a record high, and the poverty rate at about 40%, Detroit water bills are unaffordable to a massive portion of the community. (7) Hundreds of thousands of low-income Black families are at risk. The city's water shut offs are in line with decades of racially discriminatory policies targeting Black and brown Detroiters, which have resulted in unjust home seizures, the separation of children from their parents, and the creation of serious health risks to entire neighborhoods.(8) By allowing thousands of people to be denied access to water and sanitation services, the U.S. government is violating the United Nations resolution codifying the human right to water and sanitation. Show your solidarity with the people in Detroit and join Progressive Democrats for America, National Nurses United, NetRoots attendees, and local Detroit activists for a rally at Hart Plaza at 1pm on Friday, July 18th where we will make send our message loud and clear to Gov. Synder and Emergency Manager Orr. References: 1. "We the People of Detroit," Facebook https://www.facebook.com/wethepeopleofdetroit/posts/764130140275688 2. Void magazine has released an article which reiterates the need and benefits for Jacksonville to grow short and long term. The metro system would support the working class, bring new business, support new jobs and make the nightlife and driving much safer. • Too Many Kids in Arizona Go Hungry
Right now, the childhood hunger problem in America is inexcusably big – affecting more than 1 in 5 children. We know that adequate food and good nutrition, particularly in a young child’s life, has a very important impact on a child’s capacity for future learning and on their lifelong economic productivity. But our leaders are not giving this problem the attention it warrants. For decades, Republicans and Democrats have come together to support programs like the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). Research shows that kids who get help from programs like SNAP do better in school and better in life. But hunger in America is big and is getting worse as income inequality becomes more extreme. This is a trend that we need to reverse now. We need to show our state and federal officials that Arizonans have had enough of hungry kids. It's time to end childhood hunger. Sign our pledge to show your support.

  • Turn Fire Camp 15 Louis Roth into a Homeless Camp & Resource Center
I believe it's possible to remove the majority of the homeless off the streets of Sunland Tujunga and into a safe enviroment by using Camp 15. I believe using the abandoned camp will incur a minimal amount of cost to the private & public sector. It is my hope this petition will generate enough interest to create a safe place for those of us who have lost our homes. Of the 20-plus homeless I've spoken with, all would be willing to volunteer their time & energy to make this a reality. Recently there has been numerous threats & various acts of vandalism. When we try to report it, nothing happens. We believe the time has come for our political leaders and community leaders to band together to help, not persecute, them, as is now happening with LAPD'S DAILY HARRASSMENT. THEY ARE CURRENTLY BEING STALKED BY A VIGiLANTE GROUP. WE ARE MEMBERS OF THIS COMMUNITY & WE DEMAND TO BE TREATED AS SUCH. Many of us actually feel as though we're living in pre WW 2 Germany. it's like being one step away from the concentration camps, and we all know what comes after that. I for one don't feel like being a pizza. We thank you for your time. Hopefully you'll find it in your heart to sign this, and send a message to our local leaders. you don't have to be a resident, just someone who cares about people.
