Congress passed a law to collect Social Security debts of parents from their children! Why are we charging the children of the poor and disabled for benefits that their parents received and spent? This is insanity! Start taxing the rich and stop this grand theft. It's undignified for the "greatest nation on earth" to go after these petty sums. These people are not wealthy and did not even receive the benefits for which they have been charged. The law abhors unjust enrichment, and this is the epitome of injustice. The article at the Washington Post is titled: Social Security, Treasury target taxpayers for their parents’ decades-old debts, at http://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/social-security-treasury-target-hundreds-of-thousands-of-taxpayers-for-parents-old-debts/2014/04/10/74ac8eae-bf4d-11e3-bcec-b71ee10e9bc3_story.html?wpisrc=nl_pulse380 of 400 SignaturesCreated by Olivia LaRosa

Rules for DHS child welfare workersBecause I am tired of different rules for different people. It need to be the same for everyone. I have seen a handful of people that have all done the same thing, yet they all have different consequences. I understand the DHS child welfare doesn't just come take your children. But what if you where deemed unfit and your children where removed? DHS would tell you do X amount of these things and you have 1 year to get it done, you completed those thing then they tell you do these X amount of things (remember time is running out!) Then what? you continue to jump thru whatever hoops the worker chooses for you to do. Then what if the DHS really likes the other parent and then tells them here do these 1,2 or 3 things and gives your children to the other parent. They dont listen to your concerns because they (really like the other parent and your just vindictive?) then what? Your children are off to live with the other parent or adopted because you ran out of time. I am hoping that my petition gives everyone the same rules. Please sign my petition it only takes a minute. This may not effect you but may effect someone you love. Thank you28 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Jessica

SAVE SONOMA DEVELOPMENTAL CENTERThe Sonoma Developmental Center needs to remain open and operating so that the needs of the most severely developmentally disabled citizens are met. There is no other safety net at this time and too many developmentally disabled who have dangerous behaviors are ending up in the prisons and those who are frail with multiple disabilities, many of them are ending up in nursing homes. The board and care homes and the group homes are not equipped to provide this specialized care at this time and until then, the Sonoma Developmental Center needs to remain open and operating and providing the specialized care that so many families have fought for over many years for their beloved severely disabled children.2,183 of 3,000 SignaturesCreated by Mary O'Riordan

Support Winnemem Cultural Survival - Tell Congress "No" to the Shasta Dam raise. When the Creator put all of the creatures out through our Sacred Spring on Bohem Puyuk (Mt. Shasta), Salmon gave her voice to Human. In return we are committed to use our voice to always speak up for Salmon. We are the people of the Winnemem (McCloud) River watershed on the South side of Mt Shasta, in Northern California. In our language Winnemem Wintu translates to Middle Water People as the McCloud River is bounded by the Upper Sacramento to the West and the Pit River to the East. We were born from water, we are of the water, and we fight to protect it. We continue to pray and hold ceremony at our traditional sacred places that remain accessible to us. Our lands were taken, without compensation, when the Shasta Dam was completed in 1945 and flooded our beloved river home. www.winnememwintu.us10,347 of 15,000 SignaturesCreated by Caleen Sisk

Disabled Veteran ActPre 9/11 caregivers and veterans aren't receiving adequate support services where many movements, pay and support were enacted only for post 9/11 veterans and their caregivers. Disabilities created by U.S. wars shouldn't be treated differently based on the war that caused the disability. Obviously the needs are the same.41 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Eliza Knight

Open Fernbank ForestFernbank Forest helped: -educate people about nature -develop environmental responsibility in people -foster fellowship in people as they took their nature walks -peak curiousity and instill lifelong learning Ms. Emily Stewart Harrison's family owned most of the land where the forest sits. Ms. Harrison campaigned to preserve the forest in order for it to serve as an environmental teaching tool for people, especially children. It pleased her to see several children enter the forest and enjoy its many wonders just as she had throughout her lifetime (1). Fernbank Inc.'s shutting the community out of the forest goes against the board's inherent duty to use the forest as a teaching tool for as many people as possible. "These heartstrings of ours have a curious way of getting tangled up in things: particular trees and rocks and hill slopes ... but gradually I had come to feel that Fernbank was too big and too beautiful for (one) family('s) consumption ... The best thing to do with it would be to put it into the lives of children . . ."- Emily Harrison http://www.openfernbankforest.com/ (1) http://files.usgwarchives.net/ga/dekalb/bios/harrison994gbs.txt752 of 800 SignaturesCreated by Noemi Vega

Station Agents Must Remain at NYC Subway EntrancesAs a resident of the Bronx, I have personally seen what has happened to station entrances where there is no human presence. At least today, people have the option to go to a staffed entrance and stay in the off-hour waiting area until their train comes. Without an agent in a fixed position, this vital safety/security feature will be useless. We need a human presence in the subway system!413 of 500 SignaturesCreated by John Rozankowski

American Children Deserve Constitutional RightsI've been forced to live with an abuser five years too long simply to protect my children from being abused by their own father. The courts are more often then not awarding at least standard if not full custody to the known abusive parent and the protective parent is made to look vindictive. I'm not vindictive. I just happen to feel that my children and all children deserve to have the same constitutional rights as their adult counterparts. We call the problem women's issues. I beg to differ- I have a son and I have many friends with sons, it's not women's issues, it's actually a lack of human liberty's issues. It is time for transparency in family courts, juvenile courts and most importantly with child and family "services"- (and I use that term loosely). The above mentioned entities need to be required to have outside, non-affiliated auditors and checks and balances mandated and in place to protect human rights and constitutional rights of adults and children. The system is so quick to believe that children can't comprehend what is in their own best interest. The system is wrong. Children know if they are safe or not with a parent- or an abusive parent. Children aren't that easily manipulated. In fact, Children are smarter today then in any other time in history. Children deserve basic constitutional and human rights without the court systems infringing on the rights constitutional rights of the children and often forcing the protective parent go bankrupt fighting a losing battle due to the fact that abusive parents are afforded constitutional rights and children are not granted the same constitutional rights. Due to this imbalance of power and the virtual inability of children to have a voice or even human and constitutional rights, children are not being protected under the same constitution as adults, in particular an abusive parent. It is time to fight to protect the safety and constitutional rights of innocent children. Children being forced to go with an abusive parent or even live with them full time is an epidemic and world-wide problem with no incentive to stop the injustice, unless we grant children constitutional rights. Please sign this petition and let's give our children a voice and a chance at what I always believed was a basic human right- constitutional rights. While I was memorizing the constitution while I was growing up, no one ever mentioned that it wasn't relevant to me as a child. Our children know what is in their best interest far more than any courts. Please sign- it's time we grant constitutional rights to children.75 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Terrah Mayes

Lent House RestorationPeekskill's oldest building, the Lent House, has been deteriorating for decades. It is an important reminder of Peekskill's place in history, and desperately needs restoration. Funding, willpower, and voices are needed to preserve this gem before it is lost forever.214 of 300 SignaturesCreated by Phyllis Senghaas

Fix the MTA!Since San Francisco voters and city officials handed authority for managing our streets, traffic, parking, Muni, and taxis to the SFMTA, all those systems have deteriorated. SFMTA spends more money and delivers less service per capita than any comparable transit system in the country. Claims of fraudulent accounting practices, handshake deals, and preferential treatment, are running rampant. Muni drivers have a class action suit pending and there are a number of CEQA appeals winding their way through the courts. Reduced parking and restricted traffic lanes have created daily gridlock. San Francisco is now rated the third worst in the country for parking. The congestion parking schemes do not work as promised and the MTA has no real plan to deal with the increase in traffic that new development will inevitably bring. We have lost faith in the SFMTA and are fed up with promises of future visions of grandeur. Muni delivers less than 98.5% of scheduled service and has never met 85% of on time performance. Everyone complains about lack of notice, public outreach and citizen involvement in developing and approving citywide transit projects. Plans to revise Muni lines, along with threats to raise rates, fees and fines, have turned many Muni riders against the SFMTA and customer satisfaction is at an all time low. Residents are unlikely to support any new fares, fines, fees, bonds, or other funding measures to dig the SFMTA out of its financial hole. The SFMTA has lost the trust of residents and we believe the only way out of this mess is to pass a Charter Amendment to fix the MTA. Please sign the petition, leave your comments, join us or work with neighborhood groups to help us fix the MTA. Thank you for your support. Use the comments to let city officials know how you feel about the MTA when you sign the petition. Emails are required to avoid double signatures, but they are blind.246 of 300 SignaturesCreated by Peter Kirby

Reform Child Support NOW!I have been personally affected by the current child support system in a negative manner. The current law is outdated, unfair, and in many instances, unconstitutional. Reform is needed so that the modern family and our diverse situations can be correctly addressed. This will ensure that proper guidelines are being mandated and followed. No child deserves to be subjected to witnessing their parent fall victim to the child support system.11,864 of 15,000 SignaturesCreated by N.K Clark
