Governor Nixon: Save the Family Support DivisionThe Missouri Department of Social Services has begun to reduce and consolidate field offices of the Family Support Division (FSD) with a reduction of over 700 employees. As a result, many counties will have no offices to which people can go to access case workers and on-site assistance. It appears that the largest population centers in the state (St. Louis City and County, St. Charles County and Jackson County) will be without any FSD offices. This is difficult to understand.256 of 300 SignaturesCreated by Louise T. Wilkerson

Fund 4 major social programs through raised taxesIt is clear that lower and middle class workers are working harder than ever to make less than ever. Meanwhile, those at the top earn far greater profits than their average workers than ever before because of their financial bargaining power. Therefore, impose necessary taxes on the needed top wealthy to see that the four social programs--social security, Medicare, Medicaid, and Obamacare--stay solvent, even cutting defense unless taxes are sustained high enough to make all programs continue as they are now. Time to go on the attack and not allow any notion that the social programs are the unnecessary expense that took many on the right feel should be cut. To take from Paul to pay Peter is not robbery when Paul has already taken from Paul due to the power of the purse in bargaining power and the abilty of he wealthy to make government serve their interests better than those of the people. They now take more than they make.. .13 of 100 SignaturesCreated by John Daniel Duke

Representative Meeks, No Benefit Cuts to Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security!Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security are extremely vital parts of our social safety net. The majority of Americans are NOT willing to cut benefits to these very popular programs in order to deal with the deficit. In fact, Social Security should not even be part of this equation. We oppose any and every cut to Medicare, Medicaid, or Social Security benefits -- including raising the retirement age or cutting the cost of living adjustments that we earned and need. There are other ways to solve our nation's fiscal problems. Our Washington representatives should NOT dismantle the safety net which our country's seniors, poor, orphans, and disabled rely upon for their very survival.49 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Helene Zemel

If you cut Social Security and Medicare, then cut your benefits tooSome members of Congress are proud that they are voting to make cuts to Social Security and Medicare programs. They say we all must make sacrifices. But they ask, once again, for those who can least afford it to shoulder the burden. Let Congress share some of that burden.830 of 1,000 SignaturesCreated by Kevin Quinn

Bait and Switch on Seniors at Cielo Azul Apartments in Palmdale, Ca .The guidelines for Low Income Federal Tax Credit Buildings expired 10 years ago but were never updated leaving disabled and retired seniors and other low income families suffering financially due to this oversight. My Social Security SSI income is $884 a month and my rent is $711.00, forcing me to go without food and Medicine. Why isn't the Federal Government addressing this?32 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Arian Michael

Ask the governor to stop revoking license plates for 30 days when a person insurance lapse. This...I have a friend who lost his job and his insurance lapse for two weeks. Because his insurance lapse his license plate was revoke for 30 days which left him without a vehicle to look for a job. This law only brings additional hardships on poor people especially in this economy.1 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Darlene Lane

Put a stop to closing down historical sites in North CarolinaRecently the Governer and State Legislature have been attempting to close down famous historical sites around the State to "save money". One of the main reasons my wife and I moved to the state seven years ago was because North Carolina placed an emphasis on it's very interesting history. We moved from California, where we had both resided all of our lives. One of the reasons we moved from the state was because California had lost it's soul as a result of getting rid of similar programs in that state. Several years ago Downtown Asheville, NC was a "ghost town". Instead of tearing down the old boarded up buildings the city fathers decided to renovate these buildings and make the downtown area into a tourist Mecca. It was a brilliant idea. Most of the old Multi story buildings opened shops and restaurants on the first floor. The upper floors were converted into condos or apartments to encourage a growing population in the downtown area. Subsequently, Downtown Asheville has grown into a thriving city unto itself and became a successful tourist area. Part of the charm of the area has been it's emphasis on the history of the area and the friendliness of it's occupants. Los Angeles, California took a different direction. They tore down the old and replaced it with cheaper, less interesting buildings. Nobody goes to downtown L..A. because it has no "charm". It's inhabited mostly by "projects", is unfriendly, even hostile, and dirty.4 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Phil Dimon
