Only four U.S. presidents have ever received the Nobel Peace Prize: Theodore Roosevelt (1906), Woodrow Wilson (1919), Jimmy Carter (2002), and Barack Obama (2009). And all of them received the prize for their role in advancing diplomacy and bringing about the end to brutal wars. Meanwhile, Trump has failed to meaningfully support Ukraine, halting aid earlier this year and taking months to finally show signs of support. And as the humanitarian crisis in Gaza continues—with nearly one thousand Palestinians killed just while trying to access food—the Trump administration continues to ignore the United Nations recommendations for independent aid, instead choosing to align with the Israeli government’s demands as millions of Palestinian civilians risk famine.  Potentially involving the U.S. in yet another forever war with Iran demonstrates Trump’s blatant disregard for the safety and well-being of everyday people. And that’s just the start—he’s already made hundreds of decisions that prove it, including:  • Working with Republicans in Congress to slash Medicaid and food stamp benefits  • Raising tariffs to partner countries, threatening the U.S.’s traditional allies with trade wars and causing a rise in costs that trickles down to consumers • Deploying the National Guard against Americans to break up peaceful protests • Using ICE to disappear people off the streets, infringing on our constitutional rights  Awarding Trump the Nobel Peace Prize would be an affront to every single American, as well as people across the globe. With the election of Stephen Colbert as US Senator from South Carolina we will not only eliminate Trump sycophant, Lindsey Graham, from federal office but help to flip the Senate to Democratic control.

Trump sued Paramount Global for $20 billion in damages for their 2024 “60 Minutes” interview with Kamala Harris—yet another example of Trump trying to intimidate media outlets that report on information he disagrees with. At the beginning of July, CBS announced they settled for $16 million, sending a disturbing message to independent media.  During his Monday segment, Colbert spoke vocally against the settlement, calling it a bribe and stating: “This all comes as Paramount’s owners are trying to get the Trump administration to approve the sale of our network to a new owner, Skydance.”  And Trump celebrated the announcement, stating on Truth Social, “I absolutely love that Colbert’ got fired.” Colbert has been hosting the show since 2015, and he’s been a frequent critic of Trump. Even the implication that prominent political media figures like him are being silenced or punished for their commentary against the government could have a chilling ripple effect when it comes to freedom of speech. This is a moment when we need strong voices reaching viewers across the nation and when we need institutions—including corporations—holding the line against interference from an increasingly abusing and corrupt federal government. Members of Congress, including Sen. Adam Schiff and Sen. Elizabeth Warren, have speculated whether Colbert’s criticism of CBS’s settlement with Trump influenced the network’s decision.  CBS has forgotten who it answers to: its viewers. And viewers want Colbert to stay on air. Add your name to the petition to put the public pressure on CBS to keep “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.” 

Andrew Cuomo is a disgraced former governor. He has a reputation of a bullying and abusive temperament, and a history of numerous credible allegations of sexually inappropriate behavior. He has long sided with corporate interests and “punched down” and “punched left” to block progressive change. He ran his primary campaign with backing from Trump supporters. No wonder he was resoundingly defeated in the primary when New York City Democratic voters delivered a landslide victory to Zohran Mamdani, a dynamic and compelling state assembly member who is offering a powerful new approach to politics. Mamdani has attracted new voters, built a broad coalition, and championed an important agenda to make NYC more affordable. Mamdani’s campaign should be a model for Democrats around the country. And Democratic leaders across New York should be rallying around him in advance of his general election race. Instead, a number of prominent Democrats are withholding their endorsement, news outlets are fearmongering around Mamdani, and big corporate backers—many of whom share Trump’s agenda—have been promising to fund an opponent. Andrew Cuomo has decided to run in the general election as an independent with a coalition of billionaire backers, Trump donors, and fearmongers.Cuomo may decide to be a sore loser after the primary, but Democrats deserve better. Democratic voters deserve party leaders to back the candidate the voters chose. Cuomo’s presence confuses the race, amplifies fearmongering and disinformation, and gives an opportunity for some of the worst actors in New York and American politics to try to shape the NYC election. We don’t need greedy billionaires, corporate shills, and Trump apologists trying to choose the next mayor. All Democratic leaders need to unite—and Cuomo needs to drop out.

We, the undersigned residents, advocates, and community members, urge the Greene County Sheriff’s Office to immediately terminate its contract with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). In October 2024, Greene County quietly amended its existing jail contract to allow ICE to detain immigrants in the local jail. By January 2025, Sheriff Jim Arnott confirmed a formal agreement permitting the detention of up to 300 individuals on ICE’s behalf, with the county receiving over $100 per person, per day. Missouri has no federal ICE detention centers, yet local jails—including Greene County’s—are filling that role with minimal transparency or public oversight. Although ICE may detain individuals with criminal histories, a significant number are brought into custody for civil immigration matters—such as visa overstays, missed court dates, or pending asylum cases. According to federal data, more than 70% of ICE detainees currently held nationwide have no criminal convictions (source). Compounding the lack of transparency, the Greene County Jail’s public roster does not indicate the charges or legal basis for detention. Individuals held for ICE are listed only as arrested by “ICE,” with no additional public information provided about why they are being detained. This practice leaves the public in the dark and raises serious concerns about accountability, due process, and unjust incarceration. This contract effectively turns our local jail into a federal detention site—profiting from immigrant detention while undermining community safety, trust, and dignity

The Trump administration and its MAGA supporters have been attacking trans, nonbinary, and gender nonconforming Americans—with a focus on youth and their parents. Health care is proven to be lifesaving for many trans youth. But the Trump administration is trying to punish parents and medical professionals seeking to provide fundamental health care. Most recently, Trump’s attorney general, Pam Bondi, has subpoenaed hospitals and medical providers for information about care they provide to trans youth, including sensitive and individual medical records. Not only is this a blatant attack on health privacy (HIPAA), it is also meant to threaten these providers into ceasing this essential care. And it’s a step toward targeting and punishing the youth and their families. Enough is enough. While Congress should put a stop to this and state attorneys general need to step in, it’s also critical for hospital administrators, doctors, and other medical providers to rely on the oaths they have taken to protect the patients in their care and “do no harm.”  If hospitals and medical providers refuse to proactively cooperate with unethical asks by challenging subpoenas and letting the legal process play out, they will send a strong message that refusing to be terrorized into compliance by this administration is something we all must do. When we speak out to demand institutions refuse to give in to these outrageous demands from the Trump administration, we can keep our communities safe. That’s why it’s so important to take action right now. Patients and their families must be able to trust their doctors and medical providers who are providing essential, lifesaving care for their children. Don’t betray them for the ugly, hateful, political agenda of Trump and his allies.

Despite a wide majority of Americans—including all parts of the political spectrum—wanting the full truth about the Jeffrey Epstein case, the Department of Justice is refusing to release their files to the public. This refusal is undermining the investigation, fuels conspiracy theories, and sure smells like a cover-up in the service of rich and powerful men who participated in Epstein’s criminal activities. The majority of Americans are unhappy with the limited amount of information the government has released related to its investigation into Epstein. President Trump campaigned on the issue, claiming that he would have “no problem” looking into a rumored Epstein client list. And Attorney General Pam Bondi promised to release the files.  Now is the time to make good on this promise.  The public deserves to know the extent of Epstein’s abuse and to hold accountable anybody—regardless of political affiliation—who enabled it. We are owed answers. Otherwise, given that his clients were predominantly wealthy, powerful individuals, it seems like one more example of a rigged system: one set of rules for the elite, and a different set for everyone else. Kristi Noem was an unqualified pick to lead the Department of Homeland Security. In her first months on the job, she posed for photos in front of wrongfully imprisoned people, made light of human suffering, and partnered with the Trump White House efforts to dismantle critical programs that keep our country and its residents safe—all while gleefully and cruelly doubling down on the terror tactics of detaining, disappearing, and deporting people off our streets. Over the past weeks, we have seen how she’s not just unfit but that her decisions have hobbled critical relief efforts. Her political attacks on FEMA and new policies requiring her personal sign-off on expenditures delayed the agency’s ability to respond to the deadly Texas floods. FEMA help hotlines—which have provided critical, high-level service in previous disasters—were dysfunctional for Texas residents thanks to Noem’s policies, with nearly two-thirds of calls going unanswered when people needed urgent help the most. The tragedy in Texas is heartbreaking. No words can bring back the lives lost or repair the shattered families. But when such incompetence contributes to and compounds that suffering, it’s imperative those in power are held responsible. It’s scary that Kristi Noem doesn’t understand basic constitutional rights, yet she’s still making policy decisions, setting budgets, and is incompetently leading a life-saving agency like FEMA. Kristi Noem must go—sign the petition.

Colorado Springs must take urgent steps to respond to the rise in masked law enforcement, ICE overreach, and the targeting of immigrants and political dissenters, including students and lawful residents. In a February 5th raid of four apartments in Denver and Aurora, ICE destroyed a tenant’s door, ripping the locks off the door handle, entered without a warrant, shot rubber bullets at tenants in their pursuit — terrorizing the entire neighborhood.  ICE is striking fear in the community to justify mass arrests and using local police and the DEA to give cover to a federal deportation agenda. On March 17th, Jeanette Vizguerra—recognized by Time Magazine in 2017 as one of the world's 100 most influential people and known for having no criminal record—was working at a Target store in Denver. As she stepped outside for her first break, she was detained. Vizguerra's vocal advocacy for immigrant rights made her a target, and her experience underscores how those who speak out for justice can face intimidation and efforts to silence them. On June 27th, 32-year-old U.S. citizen, Andrea Velez, was confronted and forcibly taken by armed, masked individuals in Los Angeles. Her family, fearing a kidnapping, contacted the police—only to discover that the men involved were federal immigration agents. These secretive detentions erode public trust and silence dissent.  Every person—citizen or not—deserves to know who is detaining them, and why. The rise of secret policing and disappearances is not just a federal issue; it’s a local emergency. Our city should be a place of safety, not surveillance and fear. 

Because your voice matters, and so does every vote.
