• Subpoena Trump's Taxes!!
Donald Trump just released financial disclosure forms, but it tells next-to-nothing about the source of his finances. The forms simply lists the names of dozens of limited liability companies that he either wholly or partially owns. This is why Trump's taxes matter. We don’t know the truth behind payments to the LLCs because these limited liability companies are what are known as “pass-through” entities. They do not pay corporate income tax; instead, their profits simply “pass through” to the owner — i.e., to Donald Trump — who then pays individual income tax on his taxable income. According to Senator Sherrod Brown, "President Trump's refusal to disclose his business dealings make it unclear whether he and his family may be exposed to terrorist financing, sanctions, or money laundering risks through their relationships with investors and associates from Russia and other nations." Therefore we call on the US Senate and it's appropriate committee(s) to subpoena the President's personal and corporate taxes and determine if such risks are present.

  • The Batson Challenge FRAUD
Equal Protection for African American defendants and victims of crime! The current Jury selection process is flawed and must change. African-American potential jurors face ongoing constructive judicial fraud and challenging attorneys in court is onerous and exhaustive, and does not provide timely relief. The peremptory removal of potential jurors without a reason invites and promotes unlawful discrimination. All Americans must be protected by the 14th Amendment. Let's change Jury selection laws and revise the Batson challenge!

  • Second Chance for Juvenile Offenders in the State of Texas
The Supreme Court of the United States supports the idea that child status does matter. Children are different from adults and should not be treated the same as adults. Texas lawmakers should acknowledge that fact and offer a second chance to those convicted of an offense committed when younger than 18 years of age.

  • US Senate: Stop estate tax repeal
1/4 of this tax cut goes to the top .01 % of tax payers and almost none to farms or family businesses. If we can't afford "Meals on Wheels" we sure can't afford this.

  • Remove Sean Earlen from the New Jersey Pinelands Commission
Chairman Earlen did not uphold his oath to protect the sensitive NJ Pinelands. The Pinelands is our nation's first National Reserve, a U.S Biosphere Reserve and protects a 17 trillion gallon fresh water aquifer. The Pinelands Commission is entrusted with its protection. Allowing the pipeline to be constructed through the pinelands, sets a dangerous precedent that cannot be reversed. The pipeline does not protect the sensitive Pinelands.

  • Gov. Cooper: VETO the big pork protection bill!!
The Rachel Carson Council has worked with other environmental and citizens' organizations in North Carolina to stop HB 467. But we came up short, despite petitions, organizing, protests, bipartisan opposition in the legislature, and expert Constitutional arguments against the bill. Governor Roy Cooper is the last, best hope to stop this giveaway to big pork and to protect those who suffer from hog waste and pollution. We must call on him to VETO this bill!

  • Join Murphy, Paul, Durbin & Franken: Block Selling Arms to Saudis to Kill Civilians
Saudi Arabia's war and blockade have pushed Yemen to the brink of famine. But the Trump Administration wants to sell Saudi Arabia even more weapons. Under U.S. law, weapons exports are supposed to be conditioned on requirements that civilians be protected from their use. Unfortunately, Congressional "oversight" of U.S. weapons exports has often been virtually absent, particularly for countries like Saudi Arabia that have bought a lot of influence in Washington. Senators Murphy, Paul, Durbin and Franken [1] have now introduced Senate Joint Resolution 40 [2], which would tighten these requirements in the case of Saudi Arabia. Under SJRes40, the Administration would have to publicly certify that Saudi Arabia is complying with international humanitarian law in Yemen and facilitating the flow of aid into Yemen in order for arms sales to proceed. On September 21, 27 Senators voted against arming Saudi Arabia. [3] The more Senators co-sponsor SJRes40, the more Senate support we have for blocking the sale of weapons if Saudi Arabia doesn't change its behavior in Yemen. Urge Senators to co-sponsor SJRes40 by signing our petition. • TAKE ACTION: This toxic pesticide is poisoning our food!
In a move that will put almost anyone who comes into contact with many common foods at risk, Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Scott Pruitt has refused to ban the toxic pesticide chlorpyrifos. Based on many scientific studies, the EPA determined that even very low levels of exposure to chlorpyrifos—a pesticide used on staple foods like corn, wheat, apples and citrus—can cause irreparable harm and damage children’s developing brains. But Pruitt refuses to ban this dangerous chemical from our food, a decision that neglects the agency’s own science and puts millions at risk. Chlorpyrifos contaminates our food and water, and agricultural workers and families in rural communities are at the front lines of exposure to this neurotoxic chemical. Exposing children to chlorpyrifos results in reduced IQ, loss of working memory and attention deficit disorders. Workers poisoned by chlorpyrifos experience vomiting, muscle cramps and twitching, tremors and weakness. This neurotoxic pesticide was banned for residential use 17 years ago, so why would the EPA continue to allow it to be used on farms, where it can poison everything it touches? Earthjustice will hold the EPA accountable. We’re back in court asking for an order directing the EPA to put a full ban in place. Join us in urging the government to keep this toxic pesticide out of our food, our water, our schools and yards, and our bodies.

  • Sanction United Airlines and protect all passengers immediately
Yesterday, United Airlines and Chicago aviation police officers forcibly removed a passenger from a flight that the airline overbooked—pulling him from his seat and dragging him through the aisles. Video captured by outraged passengers shows the man, with a bloody face, being dragged through the plane. United Airlines, which overbooked the flight, had chosen the man, it said, at random—and the man, who other passengers say is a doctor who needed to return home to see patients, refused to leave. This is the latest alarming incident involving passengers having their basic rights and freedoms infringed upon on a domestic flight. People of color also bear the brunt of deteriorating rights on domestic flights—that this passenger, who identifies as being Chinese, was treated this way follows the many instances of people of color being mistreated on domestic flights. The industry must be regulated to protect passengers. United Airlines issued a blanket apology to all of the passengers on the flight, and CEO Oscar Munoz released a statement saying they would call for a "detailed review" of the actions of their employees. But that is not enough. The United States Department of Transportation oversees the airline industry. It's time for the U.S. DOT to reign in the airline corporations and law enforcement officers who act outside of human decency. The U.S. DOT must sanction United Airlines and immediately adopt a passenger bill of rights that ensures all passengers can travel without fear of humiliation, harassment, or assault.
