• Reject Trump Anti-Worker Labor Secretary
The messaging opportunity for the Democrats to begin to convince Trump voters that Democrats represent blue collar workers' interests lies with opposition to an anti-worker Labor Secretary. If the Democrats want to win in the midterms; this is the matter they should emphasize. And we should not accept a labor secretary with no record of supporting workers.

  • Tell the Senate to Oppose Trump's Nominee for Labor Secretary
There were many signs that President-elect Donald Trump would be a disaster for working families, but his choice for secretary of labor—fast food CEO Andrew Puzder—is truly horrifying. Puzder's anti-worker views are no secret. He opposes raising the minimum wage and doesn’t believe millions of working people should be paid for the overtime they've worked. He supports the practice of letting corporations hire temporary or contract workers to avoid bargaining with employees. Outside of his opposition to policies that would help millions of working people, Puzder has done everything he can to cut corners and shortchange the tens of thousands of hardworking people at Carl's Jr., Hardee's and the restaurants his company owns. He's called workers at Carl’s Jr. and Hardee's—workers who have made him rich—"unskilled" and said they "don’t produce enough economic value." More than half of Carl’s Jr. and Hardee’s restaurants that were investigated for wage and hour violations were found to have violated the law. He refused to pay his managers overtime they earned, saying paying them more would take away their "sense of ownership." He's talked about replacing workers with machines. Puzder's track record raises serious concerns about his qualifications. Sign the petition to tell members of the U.S. Senate to oppose his nomination for labor secretary.

  • Walls Divide! We need unity and an evolved immigration plan.
The wall President Donald Trump wants to build on the Mexican/USA border is an out dated and primitive tactics, of empires that wish to rule by brute force, instead of seeking a mutual common bond to address the issues at hand. There are many Mexican citizens that have made their lives here in the USA and have had children born here. They work here, live, love and die here, their only transgression was not to follow protocol and apply for citizenship. If being "illegal" is the problem, then the solution should revolve around helping the people become legal. If there are Mexican citizens that are criminals, proven to commit the crimes Trump has accused them of, they of course should be deported. Those that wish to stay here and make a life for themselves and their children should be allowed to do so, as so many other Europeans as well as every other nation have done in this country in the past. Donald Trump should do the right thing and stop letting fear dictate his actions, that is not the type of leader we need, the past has proven what happens when the people are round up in fear. Donald Trump, Don't build this wall, find a better way to make citizens legal and make our nation stronger in unity, not division.

  • Stop Andy Puzder!
The Senate is about to hold hearings on Donald Trump’s pick for Secretary of Labor -- one of the WORST fast-food CEO’s, Andy Puzder of Hardee’s and Carl’s Jr. I work at Hardee’s under Puzder. I know first-hand -- we MUST fight his nomination. I was paid far too little to live -- just $7.35 per hour -- and see health and safety violations all over the place at my restaurant. Puzder makes more in a day than many employees make in a year -- and he even opposes the minimum wage Now Trump wants to put Puzder in charge of enforcing the very laws that he broke as CEO. We won’t, we can’t, back down.

  • Senators: Don't Promote Escalation with Russia to Hit Rex Tillerson
The Senate is considering the nomination of Rex Tillerson to be Secretary of State. Some are promoting greater confrontation with Russia, hoping this will obstruct Tillerson's confirmation. Some even suggest that efforts to de-escalate with Russia are "un-American." Such claims are likely to exacerbate already dangerous tensions with Russia and obstruct necessary efforts to de-escalate with Russia in the future. As CEO of ExxonMobil, Tillerson sought to limit U.S. sanctions on Russia. [1] This was normal political activity for a U.S. corporation with business overseas. Past efforts by diplomacy advocates to limit U.S. sanctions on Cuba and Iran have depended crucially on such advocacy by U.S. corporations. Whatever our views of Russia's current government, we have to share the world with it. Like the U.S., Russia has a permanent veto on the UN Security Council. Without some cooperation between the U.S. and Russia, the UN Security Council would be paralyzed. Like the U.S., Russia is a nuclear weapons power. Without some cooperation with Russia, we can't make any progress towards ridding the world of nuclear weapons or reducing U.S. nuclear weapons spending. Without some cooperation with Russia, we can't help end the civil war in Syria, or maintain limits on Iran's nuclear program, or de-escalate the conflict in Ukraine, or limit the growth of the Pentagon budget so we'll have more money for domestic infrastructure. It would be silly and counterproductive to pretend that we can sustain a policy of zero cooperation with Russia or that it would be in our interest to try to do so. We can't, and it isn't. Urge Senators not to play the Russia hysteria card against Rex Tillerson's nomination to be Secretary of State by signing our petition. • Tell Mitch McConnell: No Hearings Before Ethics Reviews
On Saturday, the Office of Government Ethics reported that several of President-elect Donald Trump’s Cabinet nominees have not completed the ethics review process. Many of Mr. Trump’s nominees have extensive financial holdings that may present serious conflicts of interest. We stand opposed to holding confirmation hearings for Mr. Trump’s nominees until their ethics reviews have been completed. The hearings and votes must be delayed to ensure due diligence in this vital democratic process. The role of the president and of U.S. legislators is to uphold the Constitution, democracy, and our most cherished values as a nation. Rushing the confirmation process without completing adequate ethics reviews before confirmation hearings endangers all three.

  • Congress: Require Trump To Divest Before Taking Office
As reported in the Huffington Post, "Congressional Democrats led by Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) plan to introduce legislation on Monday that would require President-elect Donald Trump to divest his business holdings in order to avoid conflicts of interest while serving in the White House. "The President Conflict of Interest Act would require the president and vice president, their spouses and any minor or dependent children to divest all personal financial holdings that could create a conflict of interest, and to place the resulting assets into a blind trust governed by an independent trustee. "The bill would also formally implement the Constitution’s Emoluments Clause, which bans government officials from receiving gifts or payments from foreign governments, by declaring the violation of financial conflict-of-interest laws and provisions by the president to be considered a high crime or misdemeanor punishable by impeachment. "Trump is set to enter office with an unprecedented array of financial conflicts of interest related to his multibillion-dollar Trump Organization. He has failed to specify how he will separate himself from the business that bears his name in order to avoid conflicts of interest."

  • Kick Steven Mnuchin, the "Foreclosure King," out of the Treasury Department
As the chief executive of OneWest bank, Steven Mnuchin executed tens of thousands of foreclosures, which were particularly concentrated in minority communities. He received taxpayer bailout funding and special government support to purchase OneWest based on agreeing that his bank would make its “best efforts” to restructure loans and avoid throwing families out of their homes. But Mr. Mnuchin did not make such efforts. Instead, OneWest was quick to evict families from their homes in order to increase profits and even broke the law to do so. The practices of OneWest’s reverse mortgage subsidiary, Financial Freedom, are also disturbing. Reverse mortgage products, marketed to the elderly as a way for them to tap home equity, are supposed to include protections against eviction so long as borrowers continue to live in their primary residences. But Financial Freedom engaged in aggressively predatory practices that led to over sixteen thousand foreclosures. Elderly individuals who had recently suffered the death of a spouse were most likely to be victimized. In one case Financial Freedom attempted to evict a 90-year-old woman from her home over a 27 cent error on an insurance payment.
