The number of deaths, injuries, and dismemberments on the island of Martha's Vineyard during the summer months is no longer acceptable. Over the weekend, Donald Trump publicly insulted the Khan family, making comments—rooted in Islamophobia—about a family grieving the loss of their son, Humayun Khan, a U.S. solider who died in Iraq. This is one in a long line of painful examples which make it clear that Trump cannot be trusted to honor the women and men serving this nation in the armed services. My organization, Common Defense, was started out of a shared belief that Donald Trump is unfit to be our next commander-in-chief. As an Operation Enduring Freedom veteran, I’m appalled at Trump's disrespect for military families and his use of veterans as political props. In the army, I swore to protect the rights of every American. But Donald Trump wants to divide us, and his actions will put us in danger. Sen. McConnell and Speaker Ryan have both released statements that failed to mention Donald Trump by name or outright condemn his attacks. If Republican leaders do not outright disavow Trump's dangerous rhetoric, they are not only endorsing Donald Trump's candidacy, but also his attacks on veterans. We cannot allow these comments to go unchallenged. Tell the leaders of the Republican Party to disavow Trump's attacks on veterans now.

The Atlantic Ocean is changing fast and getting busier every year, but there’s no coordination between all the agencies that have a say in the way our ocean is used. Cables are buried under the ocean floor to power high-speed internet, more wind turbines are being built, and there’s a huge demand for offshore sand to replace beaches that are destroyed during storms. All that development threatens fish and endangered wildlife. Fortunately, state and federal experts are trying to protect the Atlantic before it’s too late. They just released a brand-new plan to manage the ocean, but it definitely needs our voice to make sure it protects wildlife!

The ability to expand the campus with future construction is necessary for Goucher to remain competitive as a small liberal arts college in a crowded market. Other local institutions, from University of Maryland College Park to Towson University, are in the midst of similar development projects, as are colleges and universities around the country. Goucher is committed to doing that in a way that preserves green space and honors our commitment to environmental sustainability. Goucher has been an upstanding member of the Towson community since moving here from Baltimore City, and has worked with its neighbors in the past to ensure that anything built on campus meets with community approval and Goucher's own exacting architectural standards. The college takes great pride in its beautiful campus and frequently hosts public events, performances, and lectures that bring the Towson audience to the college to hear national leaders, artists, and speakers. Most recently, we welcomed our neighbors and community members to campus to enjoy our Goucher Summer Stage concert series. To remain competitive, to keep bringing those benefits to the community, Goucher needs the ability to expand in a way that benefits all of us, which is why I support the college's request for re-zoning.

It hurts my heart to think that thousands of Puerto Rican children could be born brain damaged and suffering from other maladies that Zika infections might bring. I am starting this petition because I am appalled that this great nation's political leaders seem to be asleep to the suffering of its citizens in Puerto Rico!

Where there is no research there can be no progress. Too many people are suffering from brain injuries caused by lack of oxygen. BLACK LIVES MATTER in Cuyahoga County is starting this petition because our nation will never become safe and just as long as police officers are allowed to operate ABOVE THE LAW. Police officers need to FOLLOW THE LAW in order to create a safer environment for everyone. Officer Michael Brelo's behavior -- standing on the hood of a car as he and dozens of other police officers fired 137 shots into the bodies of two innocent, unarmed African-Americans -- raises two suspicions: 1) Officer Brelo was likely hyped up on drugs during these tragic murders. 2) Officer Brelo knew that the political power of the Cleveland Police Patrolmen's Association gave the officers involved the green light to murder two innocent, unarmed minorities in broad daylight -- even if the killings had been captured on videotape.

Because I've been wrongfully convicted of a crime I did not commit, please go to the links, particularly the last three, when the trial began to the verdict. You will see information in the comments section at the bottom of the articles where I state that certain information was withheld from the jury therefore they could not make an informed intelligent decision. All they saw was this man who, before the trial, never used a cane, armed with his prop to elicit the jury's sympathy as a poor victim rather than the aggressor that he truly is. All of this was due to the fact that I feed a mother duck and her six babies which he didn't like. After he came at me and put his hands on my shoulders and knocked me to the ground with him on top of me and me landing on my face with a 250-+-pound man on top of me, I defended myself and got convicted for it for FELONY BATTERY ON A PERSON 65 OR OVER.
