  • EMU Board of Regents: Do NOT privatize dining services
Eastern Michigan University students were hit with a 7.8% tuition increase last year, and with another large tuition increase soon to be approved, privatization will have EMU students paying more for lower quality food. In addition, workers will be hired at low wages with fewer benefits, creating more income inequality. Numerous current employees and students will be at risk for losing their jobs. Given that the operation of dining services currently returns a surplus to the University, and given the satisfaction students have with the services provided, there is no reason to privatize dining services at Eastern Michigan University. There are many reasons to be concerned, however, about the cost and quality of food delivered by outside vendors. Outsourcing in the State of Michigan does not always work out, as was demonstrated when food service for inmates in state prisons was outsourced, with disastrous results. In addition, the firm likely to receive the contract is Chartwells, a subsidiary of Compass Group, a British company. Chartwells took over food service at Oakland University, and this account demonstrates how displeased the students are with Chartwells. “Chartwells confronts food issues,” Oakland Post, March 9, 2015. In addition, according to the Washington Post, students at a high school in Connecticut reported that Chartwells serves “food that sometimes features mold, human hair, dangerously undercooked meats, insects and portion sizes fit for a small, starving child.” “Moldy hot dogs, human hair and other cafeteria nightmares prompt students to boycott school lunches,” Washignton Post, Nov. 5, 2014 The EMU administration has claimed that the justification for this move is due to financial struggles of Eastern Michigan University. But the university’s bond rating remains strong, and EMU has solid cash flows and real reserves. If there are any financial issues at EMU, it is clear that the priorities of the EMU administration are completely misplaced. If money is to be saved, those savings can be achieved by reducing EMU’s bloated administrative budget, and by cutting the $1,000 per student (10% of average tuition) subsidy to athletics.

  • Don't Hold a Vote on TPP After the Election
The recently-signed Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) was negotiated behind closed doors with hundreds of corporate advisors. It would make it easier to offshore good jobs, push down our wages, and undermine essential climate policies, affordable medicines, safe food, human rights & an open Internet. The proposed TPP trade agreement should never pass, and especially not be voted on during the “lame duck” session of Congress after the election — that unique moment in the political calendar when Representatives who have retired or been voted out of office still hold their seats for a short time and political accountability to constituents is at its lowest. Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren and countless other progressive leaders have announced opposition to a lame duck vote on the TPP. But House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi has refused to take a position. Her public position will have enormous influence on how other House Democrats vote.

  • Support U.S. DOT's Carbon Emissions Rule
A new proposed rule from the U.S. Department of Transportation (U.S. DOT) considers requiring state and metropolitan transportation organizations to track, measure, and reduce carbon emissions as well as other air pollution from transportation projects. If enacted, this new measure would help increase investment in public transit, expand safe bikeways and pedestrian walkways, relieve traffic congestion, and clean up the air we breathe. But it won't happen without your support. Transportation makes up 31 percent of all U.S. carbon dioxide emissions and is responsible for about 53,000 premature deaths each year. Reducing emissions from transportation will clean up our air and save lives. We need your help to fix the problem. Tell U.S. DOT you support this rule now.

  • Require police agencies to take reports of missing "adults", regardless of age, when they go missing
PETITION PURPOSE: Missing is missing...their age should not matter because "Love has no age limit and neither should the law". Please sign and tell Congress to "require police to take reports of missing adults whenever the adult is reported to be missing; to make the "LaMont Dottin Law" for missing adults, a national law and requirement. (New York S6437 - passed 2016) . Why have an age restriction at all when everyone is somebody's loved one? Reporting requirements for loved ones must extend to all U. S. citizens regardless of age, specifically, adults between ages 21 to 64 who are inadequately protected under the current missing persons laws. The age restriction results in adult loved ones being unreported, lost and "off the grid", held against their will, murdered, or worst, buried in state's Potter's field without family notification. When is it moral or ethical to protect one group of people while neglecting another based on age? NEVER!!! Please help change how missing person cases are handled across the nation. Your signature will give families hope and encouragement to never give up. This has been my fight for the past 30 years when my 19 years old son, LaMont Dottin, a freshman at Queens College, disappeared on October 16, 1995, on his way to mail a package. LaMont’s body was found floating in the East Hudson River 6 days after he went missing, held in the city morgue for four months, and later buried in a pauper’s grave in Potter’s Field for fours years. But, this was not known to me as I searched years alone...refusing to give up. Families must be allowed to report adult loved ones, between ages 22-63, when they go missing. I am not the only one. Research shows that families across the nation are still being denied the right to report adult loved ones as missing and are still searching...alone. According to the national law 34 USC 41307(a) a search or investigation will only be launched for ages 21 or under. Again, we ask, why have an age restriction at all when everyone is somebody's loved one?   Please sign as the unreported or “The Missing Missing," (persons not reported) are at higher risk of exploitation than a person who is reported missing. Under current law, the police have no way of tracking the person to their family, as they are not listed in any formal missing database.  BACKGROUND CASES:  CASE 1: Your support can result in immediate search and rescue and eliminates valuable time wasted as in the case of Sierra Shields who went missing January 14, 2016 from LaGuardia Airport, New York. "We The People" along with the Shields' Family believe "it is imperative that the LaMont Dottin Law is passed on a national platform"...as recently signed into law in New York. "It took almost two days for the NYPD to take my sister's case. Two days of begging them to understand something wasn’t right. Two days of pleading with them to do something to help. And now my sister is gone. My sister, who loved to laugh and breathed life into the world around her, is no longer here. My sister, who loved people with not just words but with actions, is no longer alive. I grieve, I hurt, I ache and I don’t want anyone to ever feel the pain my family now endures. I wish the police would have taken action sooner. If we didn’t have to beg and plead and begin our own grassroots effort maybe the circumstances would be different. But the circumstances aren’t different and my sister is still gone. When someone goes missing time is of the essence and every moment that goes by feels endless. I cannot express with words the utter pain and anguish I feel for the loss of my dear sweet sister. The LaMont Dottin Law gives me hope that other families will not suffer such a horrific loss. The LaMont Dottin Law empowers families and ensures adult missing person cases will be taken seriously and investigated in a timely manner. I have to wonder if the LaMont Dottin Law was in effect on January 15, 2016, would my sister be alive today? Joy Shields CASE 2: Your support will also help closed the gap when adults go missing as in the case of Unique Harris. " On October 9, 2010, two young boys woke up alone. Their mother, 24-year-old Unique Harris, was gone. Unique was last seen on Saturday, October 9, 2010, wearing a white shirt, gray pants, and a sterling silver necklace that was secured with a safety pin at the clasp in the 2400 block of Hartford Street, SE., Washington, D.C.. Since her disappearance, Unique's mother, Valencia Harris, has been looking for her tirelessly with little or no help. She wants her daughter to know that her mother is looking for her and won't give up." "I will look for her with the last breathe in my body." (Copyright 2017 WWBT NBC12. All rights reserved) *The missing are also at higher risk of becoming a victim of murder or human trafficking…$36M plus business.   THANK YOU

  • Hillary Clinton, speak out on Brazil
Dear Secretary Clinton, The vitality and integrity of constitutional democracies in Latin America should be regarded as a chief concern for the United States as well as the rest of the world. The legitimacy of the impeachment process currently underway against Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff has been persistently questioned by Brazilian and international jurists and intellectuals, sovereign governments, multilateral entities, and Brazilian voters. In addition, many concerns have been raised over the misogyny characterizing this process, and the repercussions this could have on female political leadership and broader questions of social justice in our hemisphere. We urge you to take a stance on this matter, critical to the public trust in our democratic institutions and bilateral relations. As the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee, your position on this issue will set the tone for the United States' engagement with the region going forward, and your silence construed as tacit support. Sincerely,

  • Say NO to the Juvenile Justice Center in North Tulsa
In October, a group of concerned citizens told Karen Keith that we do not want the Juvenile Justice Center in North Tulsa. They found a group of pastors to sign on to the plan to build anyway - against the wishes of the community. Tell the commissioners once and for all, we do not want this type of "economic development" in North Tulsa!

  • Child abductors walk. Child held hostage. Parents forced by law to pay and comply with abuse.
To save innocent children and their families from the legal abuse that the department of human resources and the courts are committing against fit and loveing families by Kidnapping our kids and violating our God given and civil rights in order to collect government funds, services, and child support. Parents need to be aware of the truth so families can protect themselves and raise their children that God blessed them with without interference. To give the people back their God given rights and our Constitutional rights that they have swore to uphold. Stop the abuse of all our children and fight for our Country to be free at last. Our Children's lives and futures are being destroyed everyday for reasons like a human resource employee may not agree with a parenting style, or they may say that they think that it's possible the child is at potential risk of being neglected in the future though there has never been any neglect in the past. This should never be reason to remove a child from their safe fit home and loving family, placed into government foster care where the chances of them being sexually, physically, abused, and or even killed. This is not uncommon in foster care. It happens everyday. Our prison population is made up of 85% of former foster children that live with the devastation of being torn from their families as a child and alienated from their loved ones. It's causes the child much more harm and places them a much higher risk more than doubling their chances of suffering from neglect, abuse, death and in almost all cases as an adult their potential is never met in life. The majority of the unemployed, Homeless, addicts, and violent offenders come from foster care. This is information collected by government statistics yet they are still funding these crimes. Our children are our lives, our futures and the civil rights garenteed to all Americans or God's supreme law and rights should not be a thing of the past. Who are we to judge lest we be judged? Fact Dhr, Cps, and organizations that deal with foster placement are paid to remove children from their parents and lives but they are not paid to leave them in their own homes with their families nor do they get paid to return them. This is a multi-billion dollar business in the United States. U.S children are a higher profitable commodity than crack cocaine and heroin. The demand for this commodity is growing . That means that your child is at high risk of being abducted into state foster care and the majority of children are placed on psychological mind altering black boxed drugs that change the chemical make up in their developing brains. Do not think that it's unlikely that your child and family will become the target of such an unimaginable horrific and devastating tragedy because everyday their is a high demand for kids in order for Dhr to receive funding and create more jobs for their employees. This is not a God send. It is a business making profit off of taking away our future and the greatest God sent gifts we have. This has to stop! This is abuse in every sense at its highest and worst but it will continue as long as we let it. Some where there has got to be a line drawn. Our homes is a good place to start if you care about the safety of your children. Please do the research your self. You will be horrified at what you find. Google medical kidnapping in the U.S or legal kidnapping. Get the facts before your child's life is in the hands of some one who is getting paid to abduct them. Please before another child suffers this devastation stand up and say no more will we let you destroy our family and our lives. You would research someone's past before giving them a loan so research it before giving them your child. The proof is there and all you have to do is google it. Don't let what has been done to my child and countless others happen to yours. Learn your constitutional rights and fight to put an end to child trafficking. God bless us all.

  • Tell the Hillsboro School Board: Provide birth control in the school-based health center!
The Hillsboro School Board recently voted 4 to 3 to prevent the school-based health center at Century High School from providing students with access to contraceptives. There are 4 men and 3 women on the board—can you guess who voted for access to contraception? That's right: all 3 women stood up for women's reproductive health care. This is one of the many reasons why having women leaders in public office matters. It's unacceptable for men to make this health care decision for young women—when they've never known what it's like to be in their position. Tell the Hillsboro School Board: Provide birth control in the school-based health center! In Congress and in Hillsboro, I'll always stand up against attacks on women's health. Despite the national attacks on Planned Parenthood, Oregon has been a leader– we've reduced teen pregnancy rates by 55% between 1988 and 2014 through the expansion of comprehensive age-appropriate and science-based sexual education and access to contraception. This decision from the Hillsboro School Board sets us back and can hurt the future of young women. I'm proud to stand with the three women on the Hillsboro School Board who fought for the young women they serve. It's not the 1950's—we know that refusing to provide contraception to high school students does not stop them from having sex. Sign the petition: Provide access to contraceptives in Hillsboro's school-based health center!
