We are urging Mr. John Fitzgerald to find a more environmental-friendly solution then the cutting down of 15,000 trees to put up solar panels. Corporations around the globe have installed solar panels over parking lots and on the roofs of buildings. There must be a better solution.

We have two Councilmen, Steve Jones and Kris Beard, who refuse to accept the District Attorney's 4th recommendation to investigate the no-show, Public Safety Administrator position that was illegally created for our former Fire Chief, David Barlag. Mr. Barlag had allegedly never reported for work from September until November 2014 although we were paying him a six figure salary. Please tell our City Manager and our City Council that you are not going to let this be swept under the rug. Let our city leaders know that you do not support sweetheart back room deals to cover up a major nepotism scandal that blew up in the former Mayor's face. Tell them that you demand transparency and accountability.

Presidential candidates Bernie Sanders and Hillary Clinton and the overwhelming majority of Congressional Democrats oppose the pro-corporate welfare Trans-Pacific Partnership [TPP] agreement. But according to the Chamber of Commerce, Mitch McConnell wants to have a vote on the TPP in a "lame duck" session of Congress; after the November election, but before the new Congress that was just elected is seated. [1] This is the same Mitch McConnell who claims the Senate shouldn't vote this year on the Supreme Court nomination of Judge Merrick Garland because the Supreme Court vacancy should be filled by the next President. [2] McConnell's anti-democratic strategy for passing the TPP won't work if Congressional Democrats don't go along with it. Democrats meeting at the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia July 25–28 can decide to oppose a lame duck vote on the TPP. Democratic platform provisions have often been ignored by Democratic elected officials, so this position should be backed by some sanction on any Democratic elected official who defies it. Stripping Democrats who vote for TPP in a lame duck of future super-delegate status would be a modest sanction. I have witnessed the similar registration issues and suspicions of fraud in states across the US, and this seems to be the exact scenario in New York. Registered voters are being told they needed to choose party affiliation last year, which is a last minute change in the policy. People having never registered to vote before can wait until April 25th to decide which party, but already registered voters must make a decision by October of last year? This is an attempt to suppress independents and force people to decide on a party before they know everything about all candidates, which is not democracy.

Mayor Bowser backed a $15 minimum wage in her State of the District address. This is huge news! Big business tried to tangle up our $15 ballot initiative in the courts and keep DC residents from having a say on our city's minimum wage. But now, thanks to our organizing efforts, the Mayor has come out strong for $15 and the real fight begins. The Mayor is sending legislation to the DC Council in April. County officials allocated one polling place for every 108,000 residents but Anglo communities had more polling sites per residents. The result was traffic jams, and people had to wait in 5+ hour lines to vote. The Justice Department can put a stop to this, they are the best hope for upholding the rights of all Arizona voters. We must remove all products and divest from all companies directly supporting the illegal Israeli occupation of Palestine. Israel illegally confiscates privately owned Palestinian property; imprisons Palestinian citizens for years without charge; and uses checkpoints to restrict the movement of Palestinians, even during childbirths and medical emergencies. In Gaza, the situation is even worse because citizens are denied access to food and medicine due to the Israeli-imposed blockade. The infrastructure also has not been rebuilt since the 51-day assault on Gaza in 2014, Operation Protective Edge, which killed nearly 1,500 civilians. Since its recognition as a state in 1949, Israel has violated over 30 United Nations Security Council resolution, which are legally binding. In 2015, the United States gave Israel $10.2 million a day in military aid alone. That means that last year the US spent nearly $4 billion on Israel’s military. This funding, provided by American taxpayers, allows the military to maintain it’s illegal occupation of Palestine, carry out military assaults on Gaza, and use military grade weaponry to “police” Palestinian territory. The city council has the opportunity to make known their grave concern regarding Israel’s official system of segregation and repression of non-white Jewish Israeli citizens, Israeli citizens of Palestinian descent, and Palestinians living in the West Bank and Gaza.
