• Demand Real-Time Fact Checking in Debates and Interviews
With every debate I have to go to www.factcheck.org the following day to confirm quotes referencing percentages, costs, and accusations. Every day following debates and interviews there are articles, editorials and media coverage reporting falsehoods and exaggerations, often painting very inappropriate pictures of candidates and their stances. This is a gross injustice. The American people CAN have real-time fact checking and we deserve to know the truth. Too many people will not fact check after debates, and their opinions will be drawn based on lies and exaggerations. We must be better than this.

  • Social Emotional Learning (SEL) in every school in Massachusetts
Along with the Social Emotional Learning Alliance for Massachusetts, I have been working to educate and advocate for SEL because when we argue about test scores, charter vs. public and longer school days, we are losing sight of the gravity of education and the impact it could have on violence and addictions. Let's send a message to focus on WHAT we teach and WHO is teaching, not WHERE we teach it. Teach about emotion and thought and its impact on our decision-making.

  • Send Soldiers to Protect Protesters at Trump Rallies
Black people have been peacefully protesting during campaign events for Donald Trump, and his supporters have spit on, punched, and assaulted them with little or no consequence. What country is this again? Why are people being allowed to commit hate crimes freely? It is time for the U.S government to do its job and protect the First Amendment by sending Armed Forces to protect Black protesters. Allowing these acts is a slippery slope towards allowing atrocities similar to those that happened during the Armenian genocide and the Holocaust. Please sign this petition to keep America safe for everyone.

  • Stop BMI testing students
It drives me crazy that a faulty system is being used to mandate whether a child should be lumped into a category of weight at a time when they are extremely vulnerable and aware of their physical selves.

  • Tell Congress: We Deserve To Know. Label GMO Food!
UPDATE: We've won round one! In a first vote, the U.S. Senate failed to advance the DARK Act. But the lobbyists for Big Ag aren't going away. Let's keep up the pressure -- consumers deserve to know what's in our food. -- Jeff The U.S. Senate is expected to vote soon on what is known as the Big Ag-supported DARK Act, which would prohibit states from requiring labeling of genetically modified foods. But the Senate has another choice, one that would put in place a national standard that requires labeling of foods containing GMOs. It's called the Biotechnology Food Labeling and Uniformity Act and it needs your support. This is our chance to stand up to Big Ag and bring GMO labeling to all 50 states, but time is running out. Add your name right away!

  • Tell CBS: Stop profiting from violence, hate, and white supremacy
"Go Donald! Bring it on, Donald, go ahead, keep going." — Les Moonves, Chief Executive Officer of CBS Corporation This isn't the cheerleading of a Donald Trump campaign operative. These are the words of one of the highest paid CEOs in the world, Les Moonves of the CBS Corporation. It's no secret that big media corporations have been making big money off the spectacle of this presidential election, but Les Moonves has gone far beyond that. In comments at a Morgan Stanley conference Les Moonves acknowledged that his cheerleading for Trump’s campaign "may not be good for America, but it's damn good for CBS." Moonves, who is one of the highest paid CEOs in the world, didn't even say this with any sense of remorse, at one point saying , "the money's rolling in, this is fun." This just days after Donald Trump failed to immediately distance himself from David Duke and the Ku Klux Klan. It's the latest in a long line of Trump actions and statements that encourage violence against our communities, and have directly resulted in attacks and harassment against Latinos, immigrants, and people of color in at least 30 documented instances. CBS Corporation makes a lot of money off of publicly licensed television and radio waves. It should be not run by a CEO that delights in profiting off of what he himself acknowledges is bad for America. Sign and share this petition to tell the CBS board of directors that it's time for him to go.

  • Fix Democracy in New Hampshire
The people of New Hampshire care about where politicians are getting their money. I believe our government should be independent of corporate interest. In order to have our Representatives truly represent the New Hampshire people, they cannot be taking money from fossil fuel companies.

  • Stop Pfizer's Tax Dodging
Pfizer is one of the world’s largest pharmaceutical companies. It’s also one of the most profitable. Through a merger with Irish drug firm Allergan, Pfizer is attempting to move its address overseas. After 166 years of doing business in the United States, the company is looking to stay headquartered in New York but escape paying billions of dollars in taxes. Millions of U.S. customers buy Pfizer products. From ChapStick to prescription medications, everyday working people’s purchases are the backbone of the company’s profits. Over the past few decades, those items have gotten more and more expensive, too. No taxes plus higher prices put the ultimate squeeze on working families. Letting Pfizer enjoy all of its benefits without paying a fair share of taxes is just plain wrong. President Obama and the U.S. Treasury can take an executive action to close the loophole behind Pfizer’s planned merger. You can help, too. Take action and sign our petition to keep the pressure on.

  • Mississippi Legislature: Fund Children's Services
More than 5,000 children are in the custody of Mississippi's child welfare system. Despite a lawsuit settled several years ago, the child welfare system is still under-funded and over-burdened. The Division of Family & Children's Services is asking the state legislature to fully fund its programming so the agency can hire the case workers needed to properly care for and improve the child welfare system.

  • Turn Quinn Into a Gym
Those who attend Fordham LC generally have three complaints about the campus: the food is terrible, the internet barely works and there is not a gym that fulfills their needs. Because two of these issues are not being addressed, it is time that the Fordham LC student community finally be heard. The reason Fordham administration claims there is not a real gym on campus is because free weights and other equipment cannot be used on the second floor of buildings. Fortunately enough, Quinn Library is being moved from what is basically a basement to the new Gabelli Business building. This is where a gym should be built. Even if half of Quinn was converted into a gym, it would still be a major improvement to the tiny room Fordham claims to be a gym in McMahon Hall. Even further, this gym would exponentially improve the health of students on campus and eliminate the need for them to pay additional membership fees for gyms throughout NYC.

Honduras has lost one of its most courageous indigenous leaders, Berta Cáceres. Cáceres was the General Coordinator of the National Council of Popular and Indigenous Organizations of Honduras. In 2015, she won the Goldman Environmental Prize for her activism and leadership. She was assassinated on March 2. At her memorial service on March 5, Berta's children read a statement from Vermont Senator Patrick Leahy. In his statement, Leahy said: "the investigation of this crime must be independent and comprehensive, including the participation of international experts. Those responsible for ordering and carrying it out must be brought to justice…the Rio Blanco and the territory that Berta devoted her life to defend, should be protected. The Agua Zarca dam project should be abandoned." [1] U.S. government policy is implicated in Berta's death. The U.S. government has financed and defended the Honduran government that failed to protect Berta's life. [2] Senator Leahy has said future U.S. aid to the government of Honduras should be tied to the outcome of an independent investigation into the assassination. [3] Urge Jorge Ramos, María Elena Salinas, and Karen Tumulty to ask Bernie Sanders and Hillary Clinton how U.S. government policy in Honduras should change following this crime by signing our petition.
