  • Pass a PA budget that funds schools NOW!
I work hard everyday. Six days a week, I get up and go to work, and right now I feel like a fool. My whole life, I have been able to trust that generally, when you work, you get paid. The PA budget impasse for the last 4+ months means that I don't know when I'm going to get paid for my work since last July 1. I'm not sure what to do. There seems to be no end in sight. Maybe I need to barter: speech therapy for a chicken? Speech therapy for fuel? Speech therapy for my insulin?

  • Support the hunger strikers. Tell ICE and CCA: "Freedom Now!"
HUNDREDS OF WOMEN IN TEXAS HAVE GONE ON HUNGER STRIKE TO PROTEST INHUMANE TREATMENT AND INCARCERATION Refugee and migrant women are on hunger strike at the all-women T. Don Hutto detention center in Taylor, Texas — an ICE facility run by the notorious private prison company, Corrections Corporation of America (CCA). They are demanding an end to abusive treatment and their immediate release. Since the strike began, ICE and CCA have escalated their efforts to retaliate by threatening to deport hunger strikers and moving at least 6 women to other facilities or placing them in solitary confinement as a response to their collective action. It’s torture. And if enough of us speak up, ICE and CCA officials will be forced to hear the women’s grievances and consider their demands.

  • Ban fracking wastewater from organic food
Water from fracking operations is being used to irrigate crops. So despite all the undisclosed chemicals and water contamination concerns, your produce could have been grown with tainted water. Even crazier: this food can be labeled as "organic" under current rules. Convince the USDA to ban fracking wastewater from organic produce.

  • Grandparents rights
Because it is a real shame that grandparents can be "terminated" at will. A grandparent/grandchild relationship is beneficial to all involved. The kids are hurt more when this happens. We have to push forward when we are shoved back. I want the laws to reflect that a grandparent who has been involved since their births, helped raise these kids, DOES have a right to maintain that "special" relationship. Something needs to change.

  • Stop the GOP Congress from Erecting a Statue of Dick Cheney
From lying to Congress to start a needless war in Iraq that has destabilized the region, to playing a part in the authorization of state sponsored kidnapping and torture, and then allowing the company he once ran to receive no-bid contracts in Iraq, Dick Cheney deserves prison time rather than any type of national honors! Join me in a unified voice to tell Congress that We the People will not honor Dick Cheney and we do not want the hard earned money we pay to the government to fund this reprehensible folly!

  • Include Women Experts • End All-Male Panels
Our community has a wealth of diverse experts on public life, but (Caucasian) men continue to dominate news coverage and public panels. Younger women and people of color need and deserve visible leaders who represent their experiences in our community to inspire them to step up and lead. And we all benefit when more perspectives are included in the shaping of public opinion about the issues and politics in our community.

  • Let's be heard and demand OREGON TO GIVE out driver's licenses to immigrants
• Tell Congress: CEOs got a raise. Seniors & veterans deserve one too.
Two-thirds of retirees depend on Social Security to pay for the basics, to put food on the table and keep a roof over their heads – but seniors who usually get a small boost on January 1st won’t see an extra dime next year. The Seniors and Veterans Emergency Benefits Act (SAVE Benefits Act), cosponsored by Elizabeth Warren, Barbara Mikulski, Patty Murray, Chuck Schumer, Bill Nelson, Debbie Stabenow, Maria Cantwell, Bernie Sanders, Sherrod Brown, Bob Casey, Sheldon Whitehouse, Jeff Merkley, Kirsten Gillibrand, Al Franken, Dick Blumenthal, Chris Murphy, Mazie Hirono, Tammy Baldwin, and Ed Markey, would: - Provide seniors & veterans an emergency one-time 3.9% payment in 2016 (approx. $581/person). 3.9% is the average raise that America's top CEOs received last year. - Fully cover the cost of increased payments by closing the tax loophole that allows corporations to write off obscene executive bonuses as a business expense for “performance pay.” - Extend the life of Social Security by bolstering the Social Security and Disability trust funds. So let’s do it. Let’s close the loophole and let’s use the money to give seniors and vets the support they need on January 1st. Tell Congress that America supports the SAVE Benefits Act.

  • Bridge at Eager north of M59
A bridge has been deemed unsafe due to load bearing test. Now, the entire TAX PAYING community that has children that go to Hutchings Elementary are terribly inconvenienced. Now there is only 1 road out of the school. Latson Road. That means there is only 1 way for emergency responders to get to the school. That could mean the difference between life and death. On a smaller note, many people go over the bridge to go through the back entrance of the school to pick up and drop off their children. This bridge needs to be fixed. The information I've been given is that there are zero funds available for use on this bridge. Zero funds when I see all of Detroit and Flint and Pontiac have road crews fixing bridges. Unfortunately since we aren't in an urban area, we just get to pay for the bridges of other communities and our own does not get fixed. We all pay taxes to the state of Michigan.
