• Deflate the bloated defense budget
We really need to spend out money more wisely and the defense budget is breaking us. Think what we could do with a billion dollars in education or for streets or medical funding.

  • Mining Threat to the BWCA is Mounting
The Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness is a beloved canoeing, fishing and hiking destination, known around the world for its wild landscape, deep silence and opportunities for solitude. Those qualities are threatened by Twin Metals mining company’s proposal to drill hundreds of wells as it seeks to develop a massive sulfide-ore copper mine on the edge of the Boundary Waters. Earlier this month, the US Forest Service released an Environmental Assessment of Twin Metals’ request to begin drilling hydrogeologic wells on Superior National Forest land. Twin Metals itself argues that the hydrogeologic study is necessary so it can develop its proposed mine on the edge of the Wilderness. Sadly, however, in acting only on the application, the Forest Service’s Environmental Assessment ignored the devastating impacts that mining itself would have on the Boundary Waters and the communities it supports. By dodging this opportunity to study the cumulative impacts of mining-related activities, the Forest Service has acted in a way that will allow these harmful impacts to the Superior National Forest and Boundary Waters to multiply until their wild characteristics are fatally undermined and permanently lost. The proposed drilling program, combined with previously approved exploratory drilling, is estimated to subject 6,968 acres of the Boundary Waters Wilderness to drilling and mechanical noise. A total of 13,406 acres of the Superior National Forest open to recreation (including the Boundary Waters Wilderness acreage) would be impacted by the noise. Instead, the Forest Service should assess the impacts of sulfide-ore copper mining on America’s most popular Wilderness before allowing mining companies to carve up the Superior National Forest and threaten the solitude of the Boundary Waters. This proposal is just the tip of the iceberg. We're counting on your continued support to make sure we protect the clean water and unspoiled forests of the Boundary Waters for this and future generations. You have until November 9, 2015, to comment on the Forest Service’s Environmental Assessment. Please take action now.

  • Keefe Group
Many of the inmates are becoming sick in private and state facilities due to NO oversight by FDA or DOJ over the meals being provided in facilities like Fairfax County Detention Center, previously under investigation by DOJ for a female inmate murder and incarceration of persons with drug addictions or alcohol issues. The terrible food includes soy in breakfast causing sickness, and therefore in private facilities the inmate has to go to medical at their own expense. The other option is to buy high sodium products like ramen noodles high in sodium for 85 cents otherwise .25 cents in the grocery store. If we follow the money people will be exposed. The Keefe Group and its investors are trying to kill off our men while getting rich. President Obama and Attorney General Loretta Lynch please stop this genocide on our incarcerated loved ones.

  • Petition for Daniel Cerney, Waived into Adult Court at Age 16.
I am glad there is a national discussion of sentencing and treatment of prisoners. The throwing away of kids is especially appalling. Who gets anything out of this? Wisconsin has many juvenile offenders- people who have spent most their life in prison and although the first years are big learning , most of the time is a terrible waste of resources and lives. Time to change and Daniel is a good place to start.

  • Everett City Council: Repeal Aggressive Begging Ordinance
Homeless is rampant in Snohomish County, Washington. While there are minimal efforts to address the causes and provide housing to the homeless, such efforts are underfunded and small in scope. The ACLU of Washington and Seattle University School of Law's Homeless Rights Advocacy Project sent the Mayor and Council members a letter urging them to reject the proposed amendments, calling them "unconstitutional, ineffective, and unnecessarily costly and punitive." Let's try to solve poverty, not just lock up the symptoms. http://www.heraldnet.com/article/20151028/NEWS01/151028970

  • .@amprog: Open Netanyahu Meeting to the Public
On November 10, the Center for American Progress [CAP] plans to host a “conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on a range of issues, including Iran, Israeli-Palestinian relations, regional concerns, and ways to strengthen the partnership between Israel and the United States.” [1] Huffington Post reported that the Israeli government and the American Israel Public Affairs Committee successfully pressured CAP to invite Netanyahu to speak, despite Netanyahu’s disavowal of the two-state solution to the Israel-Palestine conflict, which CAP has supported. CAP has “long been seen as a mouthpiece of the Democratic Party,” the article noted, adding that CAP founder John Podesta was once chief of staff to President Clinton and is now chair of Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign. [2] CAP’s Netanyahu event as planned is closed to the public; only “invited” media outlets and reporters will be allowed to attend. [3] Given CAP’s relationship to the Democratic Party, the “conversation” between Netanyahu and CAP is obviously a matter of public interest. Urge the Center for American Progress to open its planned meeting with Netanyahu to all media outlets and reporters and to members of the public by signing our petition. • Investigate Public Officials with Ties to the KKK
If we stand for anything, we have got to stand together against all forms of racism. Let's start by making sure that no one with ties to white supremacist groups is allowed to hold public office. Intolerance and hate have no place in our society, especially in our government!

  • Keep cursive writing instruction in public schools.
I am curious what others think of eliminating cursive writing skills from teaching standards. I think that cursive writing is an important part of education. It is an advanced form of communication. It is conducive to thinking compared to printing block letters, for example thinking in words and not in letters. It has not been encouraged, maybe because the teachers were looking for legibility or neatness.
