Replace Compromised Social Security NumbersMy family's personal information has been stolen in more than one breach. How about yours? When there is a data breach, companies offer 1 year of identity theft protection. But, our social security numbers can be used years or decades from now. We need a system that replaces social security numbers for people whose have been stolen.14 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Lynn Frances Jae

Tell Amazon to stop funding anti-immigrant hateAmazon.com’s online charitable donation program, AmazonSmiles, is funding nativist hate groups like Californians for Population Stabilization, a group that uses California’s devastating water drought to stir up anti-immigrant sentiment. Amazon.com claims that no 501C3 that promotes hate is eligible to use Amazon Smiles to raise money. Amazon also claims that they check with the Southern Poverty Law Center to make sure that none of the AmazonSmiles organizations are on their watch list. However, CAPS has been singled out by the Southern Poverty Law Center, a nativist group masquerading as an environmental organization. It’s absolutely unacceptable that Amazon allows CAPs to use their “AmazonSmiles” online charitable donation program to raise money. Join us in telling Amazon to stop funding hate groups like Californians for Population Stabilization.53 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Juan Escalante

Keep fracking off our public landsAs the oil and gas industry seeks to expand fracking on public lands across the country, including near our national parks and areas that provide critical drinking water for millions of Americans, now is the time to call on our elected officials to take a stand against dirty drilling. The Protect Our Public Lands Act would ban fracking on all federal lands, protecting our most special places from fracking's dangerous and destructive impacts.349 of 400 SignaturesCreated by Environment America

Gun Control. Now!Sandy Hook. Columbine. Red Lake, Minnesota. Essex, Vermont. Lancaster. Aurora. Virginia Tech. Umpqua. How many more innocent victims must die at the hands of an antiquated and oft-misinterpreted amendment? Enough. It's time to stop the violence. Gun control doesn't have to mean no guns. I'm not suggesting we take guns away. I'm suggesting we put tighter controls on acquiring and owning them. Gun show loopholes must be stopped. Ammunition should not be sold online. Mandatory wait periods should be enforced, during which time a thorough background check, psychological and medical evaluation, and character references should be completed. More accountability should be placed in the hands of retailers. When patrons refuse wait periods, authorities should be notified. Training and testing should be mandatory, as should a renewal process that includes many of the above-mentioned evaluation terms. Gun owners and non-gun owners need to come together and agree on regulations that protect the right to own a firearm for sane, responsible adults and keep them out of the hands of the mentally unstable. I would hope that we could all agree to submit ourselves to these terms when it's easier to go to a gun show and pick up a firearm than it is to go to the local pharmacy and buy cold medication. Acquiring and owning a gun should be at least as controlled as getting a learner's permit, license, and privilege to drive a car. Gun control alone is not the whole of the solution, but it's a start. And if it keeps guns out of the hands of even one mentally unstable person and saves one sweet life, it's worth it.17 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Kim Helmick

Florida Legislature: Do your job & draw fair districts nowUPDATE 3/14/16: The Florida legislature adjourned last week WITHOUT taking action on an independent redistricting commission. They have failed the people of Florida yet again. - Over 11 million of our taxpayer dollars (and counting!) spent on the Florida redistricting disaster. The Supreme Court found the GOP-led legislature designed the Congressional districts illegally. Then the legislature held a special session, wasted EVEN MORE money and time, and failed AGAIN to do their jobs and come up with a solution. Now the courts have to take over. Update 11-5-15: The legislature failed (AGAIN), and redrawing the Senate districts will be up to the courts. Just like the Congressional districts. We need a better way. As Sen. Clemens put it, "The Legislature is incapable of drawing its own maps that don’t have political intent". Call for an independent commission to draw fair districts now. Update 10-26-15: The Senate is digging in, and in the process of approving maps that the courts will have to throw out AGAIN. Please contact your legislators now and tell them to stop wasting time and our money, and draw fair maps. Update 10-23-15: The Florida legislature has been back in action this week (on the Senate districts this time). Instead of doing their jobs, they're working on protecting their jobs. Senator Bill Galvano, in charge of redistricting said, "the members who have been elected... have a right to those seats". Don't those seats belong to the people of Florida? Support Common Sense Gun LawsThe threat of gun violence hangs over us every day, whether we are assembled for classes, a concert, or for public transportation, we can't help but have it cross our minds: what would we do if someone took out a gun? We can't walk down the street without knowing that our government is doing NOTHING to prevent violent people from having access to guns. Non gun owners right to reasonable safety is not being protected. That must change!15 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Jenny Yasi

No More Tax Deductions for BP Oil SpillOn Monday, October 5th, the Department of Justice announced the 'final' terms of a settlement with BP over its role in the 2010 Deepwater Horizon disaster. The proposed settlement would require BP Oil Company to pay $20.8 billion in damages as a result of gross negligence, but only $5.5 billion of that settlement will be non-tax deductible. As a result, BP could take a tax deduction on $15.3 billion of the settlement payments. Of the $42 billion BP has paid to address the Deepwater Horizon disaster since oil first started spilling in 2010, about 80% has qualified for tax deductions, effectively shifting the cost of BP’s “gross negligence” onto taxpayers. These write-offs send the wrong message. They diminish the value of settlements as a deterrent to future misbehavior. They are also costly for the public because taxpayers must make up for the lost revenue through cuts to public programs, higher tax rates, or more federal debt. It's time to demand an end to holding taxpayers accountable for corporate misconduct: no more write-offs for corporate wrongdoing.16,778 of 20,000 SignaturesCreated by Andre Delattre, US PIRG
