Eaton Estates Pool: A COMMMUNITY PoolThe community of Eaton Estates would like to discuss the current plan for the pool renovation and make necessary changes that reflect the entire community. As it stands now we are against not having a zero entry area, and a segregated baby pool. The plan to renovate the pool should have been shared with the entire community and put to a vote. We'd also like to see the bidding that has already been done on this project.161 of 200 SignaturesCreated by Stephanie Nowak

Obama, Congress: European Central Bank Must Support Greece During TalksIn a referendum on July 5, Greek voters overwhelmingly rejected demands from the “troika” of its official creditors for even more austerity measures. [1] But the question of whether there can be a fair agreement and an end to the financial chaos being imposed on Greece now hangs crucially on whether the European Central Bank will support Greece’s banking system while negotiators try to reach an agreement. [2] Members of Congress are speaking out about what is being done to Greece, including Senator Bernie Sanders [3] and Congressional Progressive Caucus co-chairs Keith Ellison and Raul Grijalva and House Democratic leaders Rosa DeLauro and Jan Schakowsky. [4] Urge President Obama and Members of Congress to demand that the ECB support the Greek banking system while negotiations continue to achieve a fair agreement by signing and sharing our petition. ICE: Stop the Deportation of a Loving FatherErik Cortez-Sandeniz (A# 096-116-570) came to the United States from Mexico when he was nine years old. This is a letter from his oldest son, also named Erik. “My father grew up in Providence, Rhode Island and attended Central High School. He dropped out of high school to work and provide for his family at the age of seventeen. Since then, he has been the head of our household and has dedicated his life to taking care of his children and wife. He is now thirty-six years old and is in detention. My father grew up in a neighborhood filled with gangs. Like many other young people in his community, he became involved with the gang because that was what he knew. Despite his gang affiliation, he started working at the age of thirteen to provide for his family. One of his first jobs was helping in a local church. This country has been the only place my father has known. His whole family is here including his three U.S citizen sisters and U.S citizen mother and U.S permanent resident father, numerous of aunts and uncles and cousins, but most importantly he has his five U.S citizen children. I am his oldest son and I am nineteen years old. I just recently finished my first year at Brandeis University on a scholarship. His second oldest was recently accepted to Mass Maritime on a scholarship. Before being detained, my father saw his second son graduate high school but if he is deported he won’t see the rest of his children complete this important milestone. Two of his other children are in high school and his youngest just finished the 5th grade. He has been with my mother, his wife, for 20 years. If he does go back to Mexico, there's a possibility that he will be killed by rival gangs. He made mistakes, but I truly believe he has learned from them and moved on. He instilled in us the value of education that he learned from his experiences. My father grew up in circumstances that did not allow him to get an education, but he made sure that did not happen to us. He has two felony charges: one occurred when he was very young for leaving the scene of a car accident and the second for selling a gun to someone he thought was a friend and explained he needed a gun because his family was being threatened and was in danger. My father has provided and raised a wonderful family.” Please sign and ask ERO Assistant Field Office Director Todd Thurlow and DHS Deputy Assistant Secretary Esther Olavarria to release Erik from detention so that he can fight his case from home with his family.909 of 1,000 SignaturesCreated by United We Dream

Don't Ban Books or Punish Teachers For Teaching ToleranceAfter a third grader tearfully recounted how his classmate had called him gay, Efland, NC teacher Omar Currie decided to read the class "King and King," a story about two princes who fall in love, as a way of teaching his students about respect for difference. The harsh reaction and the brouhaha that ensued left Omar feeling so unsafe and unsupported that he and his assistant principal both resigned. That reaction, combined with strict new district rules about which books can be read in class, will have a chilling effect on other teachers who want to discuss tolerance and diversity. And according to press reports, the district is considering banning the book outright! Imagine the message this sends to gay students, teachers and staff! Schools should teach tolerance, not hate. Teachers who teach respect for diversity should be supported, not forced out. The Orange County schools should support Omar Currie, stand up to hate, and refuse to ban "King and King" or any other book that helps our kids learn.30 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Ailen Arreaza

Help Restore America's greatest Sockeye Salmon RunI love salmon, a living icon of the Northwest. I hate that politicians and utilities are letting these iconic fish become extinct to support 4 old dams that only supply 4% of power (which could more than be made up for with wind and solar) and only supply water for 13 farms, which could still be irrigated with a simple movement of their pumps. Taxpayers also pay millions for the barge system and yearly dredging to keep their channels open. But shippers prefer to use the rail system that parallel the river, so the barge system LOST money in 2011. Meanwhile, biologists agree that just breaching these obsolete dams would bring Sockeyes back over 900 miles to Idaho's beautiful "Redfish Lake," named for the masses of sockeyes that onced spawned there!264 of 300 SignaturesCreated by Ted Eisele

Newton Aldermen: Rescind New Water and Sewer Rates StructureThere is water that satisfies very basic needs: drinking, cooking, washing (that is inside water). And there is water for not so bare essentials: swimming pools and lawn irrigation (outside water). The city of Newton pays to the state more per unit of the former than of the latter, because only inside water goes into the public sewer. Nonetheless, the rates the residents pay to the city used to be the same. Thus, the price of the essential product used by everybody was subsidized by the price of the non-essential one used only by some of the residents. The aldermen made a decision to fix this “unfairness” by establishing the new rates effective July 1, 2015, where for the very first gallon of drinking water a resident pays 40% more than a gallon of outside water. Fair or not, the new rates permanently shift the burden of paying for water from well-to-do to residences with lower ability to pay. Something that does not align well with the city’s publicly declared goal of supporting “our most vulnerable residents”. In addition, such petty-mindedness produces subsequent questions. After all, does water consumed with my morning coffee before I go to work end up in the city’s sewer? Or what guarantees that water counted by an outside meter never goes into this sewer?16 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Anatoly Kleyman

Honor Union Veterans of the Civil WarA third or more of the southerners who fought in the Civil War did so for the Union, but their stories are forgotten. Remembering those stories and honoring those men will show people that southern heritage is more than just hostility to the rest of the nation, and that minority groups not only deserve a place at the table, but have earned it by shedding blood to save the Republic. We can help heal the nation by reminding future generations that we were never as sharply divided as some would have us believe. Honoring southern Union veterans does justice to our forbearers and service to those who will come after us.63 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Gregory Eatroff

All Alabama Counties Must Issue Marriage LicensesAn unprecedented, and frankly unprofessional, decision was recently made by the probate judges in several Alabama counties. To avoid issuing marriage licenses to same-sex couples, some counties decided to stop issuing them to any of their citizens. We demand that all counties follow the law and resume issuing marriage licenses to all eligible couples. If a judge's religious beliefs interfere with the performance of the duties of their office, the only honorable thing to do is to resign from office. The Alabama Supreme Court ruled the issuance of marriage licenses is a purely ministerial duty, and probate judges do not have judicial discretion. Allowing judges to pick and choose the laws they follow would set a very dangerous precedent that would derail the principles of justice and equality. The Supreme Court of the United States has ruled that marriage is a fundamental right. These counties are clearly denying their citizens their fundamental rights. Under the United States Constitution, all citizens have a right to Due Process. The Constitution protects us regardless of where we live, and forcing a citizen to travel to another jurisdiction to seek justice or receive their rights is a violation of Due Process. Both Governor Bentley and Attorney General Luther Strange have stated that Alabama must follow the law. It's time for all counties to comply. Litigation has already wasted enough Alabama taxpayer money, and unless all counties fall in line, further class action lawsuits seem inevitable. We demand that all Probate Judges either immediately follow the law - or resign from office.1,727 of 2,000 SignaturesCreated by Gary Wright II

Remove Confederate Flag from U.S. CapitolDemocratic Rep. Bennie Thompson, the only African-American member of the Mississippi delegation to the U.S. House, has introduced a resolution to remove any state flag from the House side of the Capitol containing a portion of the Confederate flag. [1] Such a flag would then be donated to the Library of Congress. The flag of Mississippi would be taken down under those guidelines, since it is the only state flag which includes the X-shaped symbol of the Confederacy. Most lawmaker offices on Capitol Hill display their state flags, but Thompson’s does not, because of the Confederate symbol. Urge the House and Senate to pass Rep. Thompson's resolution and companion legislation in the Senate and remove the Confederate flag from the U.S. Capitol by signing and sharing our petition. Human RightsI am stating this petition because I feel that I paid my debt to society by serving my prison sentence. It is unconstitutional to infringe on a persons second ammendment rights. If one does not show to posses a violent personality; there should be no reason to strip of such a clear written right in the Constitution of USA. It is a fact that the cities with the most gun laws are where the most gun crimes occurr. If a criminal believes he might face death if he attempts to commit a crime, he will very likely look somewhere else for an easy target. Please help me bring this to the attention of the Patriots of the USA. We live in very uncertain times and knowing that I can not protect myself, family, and property worries me greatly. Police can not protect a person, they arrive after the phone call is made of a crime. I am not given any right of protection. Please help me and millions of Non-Violent Americans regain our God given right by signing this petition!63 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Elvis Medina
