• Tell the FEC and IRS: Investigate the NRA for Violations of Federal Law
The NRA should be transparent about the millions of dollars it is spending on political activities. It should not be dismissive about failing to disclose this substantial political spending on its tax forms. If the NRA refuses to abide by the law, then it is necessary for the proper authorities to hold the NRA accountable.

  • Go solar VA
These two electric companies, Dominion VA Power and Appalachian Power, are using their power and influence in the VA state legislature to keep VA in the dark ages regarding renewable energy, preventing hundreds of new jobs and the expansion of solar and other renewables at a time when our neighboring states MD and NC are soaring. See http://chesapeakeclimate.org/virginia/solar/. According to one national renewable energy expert, VA has an F rating for solar friendly policies, and one large solar company Solar City will not do business in VA because of this, even while they are currently undergoing a massive expansion, hiring 1200 people. Let's help make VA the leaders of change for renewable energies, for our children and our planet.

  • Americans Native to the Southern Region Need a New Paradigm: An Unifying Flag Should be Established
Southerners of all backgrounds are generally a proud group. Home is generally important to southerners. Yet, all people native to the southern region need and deserve a fuller and accurate paradigm about how they think of themselves, how they think of each other, how others think of them, and a new and positive symbol to represent that paradigm. The confederate flag does not speak for me and many others native to the south. I have long wanted to see the confederate flag only in museums as an artifact of history. I have also long thought that a new flag, a new symbol of home, that unifies the diverse people in the southern region would be healing and valuable to the region's social psychology and to the country's social psychology. I believe that a cultural commission that is diverse and representative of the South's historical and mutually influencing diversity would be a positive experience for the region and the country especially if covered by the media (C-Span, PBS, et al.) for which the goal is to identify an informal regional flag that represents the distinct and shared gifts from the southern region.

  • Save the Americorps NCCC Program
The Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies Appropriations Bill for the 2016 fiscal year has proposed a number of changes in order to balance and maintain the house budget for the upcoming year. However, there are several concerning budget cuts within this bill, including a massive funding cut to the National Corporation for Community Service which funds the National Volunteer Program Americorps; first signed into legislature by Bill Clinton in 1993. Primarily, the cuts, which will reduce the Corporation's funding to a fifth of what it was in 2015, will result in the termination of a massive number of Americorps's programs and the complete closing of one of its most prominent programs; The National Civilian Community Corps, or NCCC. As an alumni of the NCCC and one of Americorps State programs, these initiatives mean a lot to me and the alumni of the program and they mean a lot to all the communities across the country they have served. For wages less than the national minimum, these Corps Members have put time into helping Non-Profits all across America with labor of no cost to them. Recently, the program has provided aid to the Federal Emergency Management Agency, providing young new faces in the area of disaster and massively expediting the recovery process for disasters like Hurricane Katrina and Super Storm Sandy which are both still far from completion. In turn, the program gives individuals a chance to receive new skills, experiences, and a modest scholarship to allow them a boost in pursuing their education. This is a program that benefits all people involved in it, and the money received from cutting it is far less than the cost it will take to replace the thousands upon thousands of Corp Members it will displace. To cut the Americorps programs is just an ill-advised idea with no consideration for the future and defecits in labor it will cause. Please tell Congress that these programs are wanted and necessary for our country. Without them, many Non-Profits across America would've gone under by this time. NCCC in particular was one of the very first organizations on the ground in Hurricane Katrina and became a crucial asset to the recovery effort from the storm. As an alumni, I can personally attest to the experiences I had in NCCC. I met people I would know my entire life, helped people who had lost everything in Super Storm Sandy, went to places and experienced things I couldn't have otherwise, and most of all, it put me on track to the successful career I have now. If anything, Americorps should he receiving a budget increase as it's been facing shortages and deficits in it's recent years as it has struggled to engage even more individuals. Saving Americorps is a move to saving this Nation's devotion to helping one another in our times of need. Tell Congress this budget cut is foolish, pointless, and an entiely unsustainable move that is only considering the present instead of the future.

  • Restore LaSalles Black Oak Bayou-Area
Black Oak Bayou has been mismanaged for 2 decades. We now have a manager who wants to put in the time and effort to restore it to what it once was. A place for all wildlife, not just fish. There are a few who have made their way into the spot light with misinformation and scare tactics to try and stop this. They are claiming it will hurt the eagles, the pelicans and yes even "the children". They are also falsely claiming it is being done for the benefit of duck hunters, NO it is for the benefit of all wild life, including migrating waterfowl and shore birds. Truth be told, duck hunters loose 2 more openings for hunting here. What has been proposed is based off of sound conservation practices. They are not spraying chemicals that will kill off the wildlife or fish which is another of their claims. They will be using the same chemicals that are currently being used at other Fish and Wild Life areas with ZERO impact to fish or other wildlife. Please sign in support of bringing what was once a great place in the Grand Kankakee Marsh back to it's original place of beauty.
