The confederate flag is a symbol of racial division and oppression and as such the local and federal government should not allow it to be used or displayed at government buildings or on government issued items.

Corporate privileges and resources must not be invested in prison systems where prisoners are abused and neglected by guards using extreme isolation, arbitrarily and abusive measures like unhealthy foods, delayed medical care, or violence done to people by virtue of their race, class, or citizenship status. Furthermore, the private prison model should not be hinged on maximizing incarceration to generate profit by incentivized arresting, convicting, sentencing, and keeping people in prison for longer times without the right to a trail or hearing.

Walmart has built a vast, undisclosed network of 78 subsidiaries and branches in 15 overseas tax havens. These may be used to minimize foreign taxes where Walmart has retail operations and to avoid U.S. taxes on those foreign earnings. These tax-haven subsidiaries have remained largely invisible, in part because Walmart does not list them in its annual 10-K filings with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). Ask Mary Jo White, SEC Chair, to demand full disclosure of Walmart's offshore subsidiaries in tax havens and how much Walmart may be avoiding in taxes.

We don’t care to debate whether the Fox commentators are sincere when they voice their corrosive ideas, or if it is simply a matter of a herd mentality that kicks in when more than one of them is in a room and the klieg lights are on, but there is no denying that they and Fox make money off this. This is a classic example of sensationalistic yellow journalism. And it’s worse because it is also ideologically driven, and it perpetuates racist ideology.

We should celebrate Cami’s departure cautiously (and briefly). The fact is that the movement of students, parents, teachers and concerned residents has never been about the narrow goal of Cami’s resignation. The movement in Newark to reclaim our public schools has been about local democratic control, increasing the resources and funding needed to strengthen Newark’s public schools, developing community schools and ensuring a strong future for our children. Unless her permanent replacement is selected by the Newark community, and until Newark’s schools are properly funded, the movement to reclaim our public schools will continue. As we ready ourselves for the next phase of the fight to restore local control and invest in community schools, let’s find inspiration in the amazing work that has taken place so far. For the last three years, NJ Communities United and the Newark Students Union have fought together in solidarity, organizing more than a half-dozen massive student walk-outs, countless rallies and a week-long sit-in at Cami Anderson’s office. Following recent student walk-outs, both East Side and Weequahic are no longer on the list of turn-around schools. This demonstrates that the constant escalation and mobilization have forced the superintendent’s arm. The voices of the Newark Students Union, bolstered by technical and strategic organizing support from NJ Communities United, elevated the fight to protect Newark’s schools to national and international levels. The Newark Students Union and NJ Communities United will continue this fight – and we hope you will continue to stand with us!

Since last week's mass shooting it's become evident that the Confederate flag is a symbol of racism, hatred, and division. It has no place on state property or state issued materials; including vanity car license plates. North Carolina needs to immediately drop the "Sons of Confederate Veterans" license plate from the vanity plate options and pull existing plates of this design when they come up for renewal.

The Confederate flag has no place in today's society.

We call on amazon to follow the lead of Walmart and stop selling Confederate flag merchandise. It would be an important start toward ending public acceptance of this symbol of hate.

The Trans-Pacific Partnership will affect everyone in the U.S. as well as everyone on our precious planet. It is dangerous. Its damage can't be estimated at all - to humans, to all forms of life, and to the environment. Its effects on climate change are potentially disastrous.

The Confederate flag has rightfully come under scrutiny in the wake of the racially-motivated murder of nine Black people at a church in Charleston, South Carolina. Recent photos of the murderer showed him posing next to his car with Confederate flag license plates. Virginia should stop issuing license plates that bear this image. Virginia is one of only nine states that still permit this hateful symbol on government-issued plates. The Supreme Court recently ruled that license plates represent government speech, not private speech, and that states may constitutionally refuse to issue such plates. While some may have displayed the Confederate flag for other reasons, it has overwhelmingly come to symbolize racism, and the defense of slavery and segregation. We should send a clear message that Virginia does not stand for these things.

Flagrant Human Rights Violations affect us all. If ignored in one place, it pops up in another place.
