• SCOTUS Upheld Health Care Access, Now North Carolina Must Act
In February, when asked about his position on expanding Medicaid eligibility to more North Carolinians, Gov. McCrory said, “I will not make any recommendation as to whether or not we extend insurance for the uninsured until the court case because there are so many ramifications of the court case.” (News & Observer, 02/19/15) On June 25, 2015, the Supreme Court upheld the Affordable Care Act, making it easier for millions of Americans to access affordable health care. Now we need Gov. McCrory to act. Expanding Medicaid in North Carolina could mean 407,000 more North Carolinans, including many families and children could have access to better health care. It’s time for Gov. McCrory to stand with women and families!

  • Submit Your Comment: Reject the Bakken Pipeline
The Bakken pipeline is all risk and no reward for you and everyone else in the state of Iowa. Here are some reasons the Iowa Utility Board (IUB) must reject the Bakken Pipeline proposal: • Increased risks: The size of this pipeline is unprecedented for the state of Iowa and would carry up to 570,000 barrels of dangerous crude oil through Iowa every day. With the high rate of pipeline failures, it is not a matter of if, but when it will spill and leak oil in Iowa's land and water. • Continued dependence on fossil fuels: Investing in massive oil and gas infrastructure locks us into decades of dependence on fossil fuels, doing nothing to protect our homes and families from climate change. • Eminent Domain: If approved, the company building the pipeline would be able to use eminent domain to build the pipeline on private property, even if you, the landowner, doesn't want it to be built. • Only private interests win: The Bakken Pipeline would do nothing to decrease our dependence on foreign oil. In fact, the oil that would be transported would be sent to the Gulf of Mexico for export! Your opinion and taking the opportunity to participate in the democratic process is important. The IUB needs to hear from you and all Iowans about why this pipeline should not be approved.

  • Keep Crude Oil OFF L.A. Rails
San Luis Obispo is about to make a decision that will affect the health and safety of our LA neighborhoods. Phillips 66 Santa Maria refinery in San Luis Obispo County is proposing to expand operations to move 20,800 crude tankers to and from their Nipomo facility every year. Five major accidents have happened in the first five months of 2015 in North America. These, and other, rail car derailment explosions have proven just how devastating and dangerous it is to transport crude by rail — these explosions can kill people and produce huge amounts of pollution that can harm communities for years to come. We need our Los Angeles City Council to speak up and urge the San Luis Obispo County Planning Commission to deny this proposal, and protect our communities.

  • Shut Down Aging Pipelines That Threaten our Great Lakes
Few people know about the 62-year old twin pipelines, known as Line 5, that carries crude oil and natural gas under the Straits of Mackinac putting our Great Lakes at risk of a disastrous oil spill every day! A 2014 University of Michigan study declared that the Straits of Mackinac is the "worst possible place" in the Great Lakes for an oil spill. The strong currents in the Straits would quickly move oil from a spill, putting our economy, public health, environment and Great Lakes quality of life in jeopardy. The Michigan Petroleum Pipeline Task Force is currently evaluating Line 5 and will make a decision about what to do with the aging pipeline this spring.

  • Condemn Haiti's Negligence and Dominican Republic's Racist Policies
Immigration issues currently play a big role in the political climate in the United States. Some are obsessed with what is happening at the Mexican border, but not willing to confront the moral principles that are inherent in this discussion. A good example is that the U.S. government has so far continued to support both Haitian and Dominican governments, while closing their eyes to the vast human tragedy that is unfolding at the Haiti-DR borders. One has to wonder, what do we stand for?

  • Boycott Tennessee
It's time to stop shining a light on Confederate icon or traitors. The flag is down. It's time to shake loose the last vestiges of the things that continue to divide us. The KKK was and is a domestic terrorist organization. They do not deserve state-sponsored recognition.

  • Tell Facebook to Wake Up and Permanently Ban Rena Nicole
For a couple of years, a Facebook user by the name of Rena Nicole (https://www.facebook.com/RenaNicole1?ref=br_rs) - She also goes by the names of Rena Hilty and Rena Nicole Smith - has been harassing and stalking me and several of my friends. She has created pages and sock accounts specifically for the purpose of harassing us, two of these sock accounts are Woody Green and Iliana Sanchez. In the past, she created a page titled “Pro-Aborts Are Ugly”, where she took photos off mine and my friends’ profiles and posted them to harass and ridicule us. She also encouraged her page’s members to do the same. The page was taken down, but Rena has revived the practice on her page “I Acknowledge “Pro-Choice” Means Pro Abortion” (https://www.facebook.com/prochoicemeansproabortion). One post on the page has been removed by Facebook numerous times, and each time Rena reposts it. She also admins another page, "Pro-Abort Ignorance Wall of Shame" (https://www.facebook.com/pages/Pro-Abort-Ignorance-Wall-Of-Shame/600998700003572) which she uses for the same purpose as she used "Pro-Aborts Are Ugly" and "I Acknowledge "Pro Choice" Means Pro Abortion". Everyone who calls her out or reports her gets shot down or banned from Facebook. The page, Rena’s post and her accounts have been reported for harassment several times on Facebook, but Facebook has done nothing about them, going so far as to say they do not violate the Facebook Community Standards or the Facebook Terms of Service, even though they all clearly violate the Facebook Community Standards and Terms of Service. From the Facebook Community Standards: "We don’t tolerate bullying or harassment. We allow you to speak freely on matters and people of public interest, but remove content that appears to purposefully target private individuals with the intention of degrading or shaming them. This content includes, but is not limited to: - Pages that identify and shame private individuals, - Images altered to degrade private individuals, - Photos or videos of physical bullying posted to shame the victim...” And though they’re not mentioned, socks created to bully or harass people also fall into the category. By allowing Rena’s behavior to continue, Facebook is violating its own Terms of Service and Community Standards. They are showing that they do tolerate bullying and harassment. This is getting to be a matter where the police may be notified and legal action is taken against both Facebook and Rena.

  • Domestic Violence Restraining Orders Should Last As Long As The Victim Is Still In Fear
My daughter was held at knifepoint by her unstable ex-boyfriend. She was pregnant at the time and had her 4-year-old son in the backseat. Her ex drove at speeds of 100 miles an hour and threatened their lives as she begged him to stop the car and let them out!! Her precious 4-year-old kept screaming, "Just do what he says, mommy!" because he knew this man would kill them!! After he released them, she was able to get a restraining order. She is now in a custody battle. When she went back to extend the restraining order the judge said even though she knew my daughter was still fearful she would not extend the restraining order because he hadn't assaulted her since the last restraining order was put in place. Do victims and their children have to be hurt or killed in order to extend a restraining order? As long as a victim is in danger, it should be extended for a lifetime, if necessary! Please Sign My Petition!!!

  • Congress: Defend the Iran deal. Don't let Republicans start a war with Iran!
The Obama Administration and five other world powers have reached a historic, diplomatic agreement that will prevent Iran from developing a nuclear weapon—potentially setting us on a path to end decades of hostility. Now, Democrats in Congress face a stark choice: Will they support peace—or allow Republicans to thwart diplomacy and risk another war of choice in the Middle East? If Congress rejects a diplomatic solution, while maintaining that allowing Iran to obtain a nuclear weapon is unacceptable, the only logical alternative is military action. Iran is a much larger country, with a much more sophisticated military, than Iraq or Afghanistan. War with Iran would be a deadly, costly quagmire. This should be a total no-brainer for Democrats who, for more than a decade, have watched runaway spending on the U.S. wars in Iraq and Afghanistan cost precious lives—and siphon off precious federal spending that could have been directed to meet local needs and opportunities. Yet right now, too many Democrats in Congress are perilously close to joining the Republican sabotage campaign. They're feeling acute pressure from lobbyists who oppose diplomacy while fending off unrelenting attack ads paid for by war hawks on the right. The American public backs a diplomatic deal with Iran by a 2-1 margin. Nonproliferation, nuclear policy, and national security experts agree that a diplomatic resolution is by far the best way to ensure that Iran never builds a nuclear weapon. And the Obama Administration has promised to go all out to defend this hard-won and verifiable deal. MoveOn members have been staunch defenders of diplomacy—and the peace it represents—for years. We've made tens of thousands of calls and generated nearly two hundred thousand petition signatures in support of diplomacy with Iran. Now it's time to protect the deal for which we've fought so hard for so long.

  • Curry County Commissioners: We the people of Curry County NM are asking for Change
We the people of Curry County are asking the Curry County Commissioners to remove Ms. Tori Sandoval, and Mr. Lance Pyle of their job duties as the Curry County jail administrator and county manager, respectively, for the following reasons listed below in the body of this petition. Lance Pyle, the current manager has allowed Tori Sandoval to cause harm to inmates, to the facility and to employees because of her lack of experience and education. His failed supervision of her shows derelict of duties that are written within the personnel rules of the county. During Mr. Pyle’s term, he has not been able to satisfactorily meet established performance and efficiency standards to be able to make decisions in reference to Curry County Detention Center allowing endless settlements and lawsuits against the county to occur because of his lack of ability to obey the law, adhere to personnel rules and follow-up with employee’s that have contacted him with true complaints about the CCADC and the current admin of the facility. By doing this Mr. Pyle and performing a management style that is tacit in nature, he has allowed the doors to be opened to many unethical practices currently taking place at CCADC. Mr. Pyle and the County Commissioners past and present have unjustifiably terminated or fired many educated and informed administrators which have resulted in extensive litigation costing the county heavy financial expenses and duress. Tori Sandoval current Administrator of Curry County Adult detention center has demonstrated poor judgment and management skills and has exasperated others to voluntarily resign or quit because she plays favoritism amongst many employee’s, creating a hostile work environment and allowing the CCADC to become a working hazard conditions resulting in the abuse of inmates, letting sexual harassment go unnoticed, short staff, and not following policy and procedure protocols when the facility is short staffed. Tori Sandoval has exhaustedly squandered county funds on hiring and training detention officers as the county went through over 200 employees since she has been administrator of CCADC, resulting again in unsafe working environment and unnecessary fiscal burden on the county. Tori Sandoval has engaged in manipulated mind games e.g. favoritism amongst inmates by allowing contraband into the facility as a birthday cake for inmates. Recently, it was disclosed there was a serious health condition within the jail’s interior cells. Tori Sandoval has known about the black mold in the facility and did not take measures to remedy the situation until it was leaked out into the public. In the course of her official duties, Ms. Sandoval has shredded disciplinary write-ups so her favorite employees can have better positions and better salary benefits and long term employment. She has cost the citizens of Curry County endless dollars by re-hiring and firing people causing we, the Curry County tax payers to “fork up fork out “ hard-earned dollars to provide the county the funds to hire and train staff. We the Citizens of Clovis are tired of our Current County Commissioners not finding remedies for these serious and kind of administrative issues, and are asking for Mr. Lance Pyle County Manager and Tori Sandoval Administrator of Curry County Detention Center to be removed from their current duties and begin a fresh search for competent and qualified individuals to replace them.
