• Trump is misleading donors & attacking our democracy
President Trump’s futile post-election power grab is undermining Americans’ faith in our democracy. But did you know that he’s also pulling a bait-and-switch with the money that he’s asking his donors for to fund his lawsuits? That’s right: Trump is telling donors that he needs their money for legal challenges to the election outcome -- but the fine print tells a completely different story. Most of the money that he’s raising won’t be deposited into his legal expense fund. In fact, the funds are being split between a new Trump “leadership PAC” called Save America and the Republican National Committee campaign account. Under the so-called “allocation formula” that Trump is using for this fundraising -- a donor would need to give more than $8,000 before a penny of their money goes into Trump’s legal expense fund. So the vast majority of donations will instead land in Trump’s new Save America leadership PAC. These kinds of PACs operate with few restrictions under campaign finance law -- and are notoriously used as slush funds by politicians. Trump will therefore be free to use these funds to pay himself and his family members big salaries and further line his pockets with payments to his businesses after he leaves office. This kind of for-profit politics would hardly be unprecedented for Trump, whose campaign paid his businesses more than $12 million during his 2016 presidential run -- and who continued to funnel donor money to his own businesses during his 2020 re-election campaign. Now, the FEC has an obligation to step in -- politicians shouldn’t be able to blatantly mislead their donors for personal profit. Add your name to tell FEC Commissioners: close the loophole that lets power-hungry politicians like Trump use leadership PACs as their own slush fund.

  • Black's Beach Recreational Scandal "STOP Commercialization and privatization of SD Parks"
Hello Friends of our public We would like to see a discussion of the Torrey Pines Gliderport (which is owned by the City of San Diego) be added to the agenda for the next LJ Town Council meeting. We have been requesting this for many months and have been given many excuses in return. The Torrey Pines Gliderport is city land that has been leased - for FREE - to a private FOR PROFIT business since 1998. It was originally a 5 year lease with an option to be extended for ONE additional 5 year term. So it expired in 2008 and yet continues to this day. In about 2006, the City was sued for the many abuses of the Gliderport business, and the City settled the lawsuit in the complainant's favor and agreed to create a Torrey Pines City Park Advisory Board containing all interested stakeholders. The City (Mayor Sanders) created the "Board" under the wrong section of the City Charter (43b rather than 43a - look it up), and that enabled the City to both limit and terminate the Board to keep it from correcting the ongoing problems and abuses. To this day there is no oversight by the City and the business brings in millions of dollars every year without a dime going to the City itself. The Torrey Pines Gliderport is a poster child for the corruption in San Diego, We want the La Jolla Town Council to investigate and address the Issue with the City Council to fix it. (Closure) We have the 1998 lease agreement which I believe is still in effect to this day. Feel free to verify that this lease is current with the City's Real Estate Assets Division. Thank You I also welcome anyone contacting Me personally for more details. Ernie Casco (858) 568-1384 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ My Speech LJ Town Council Nov 12th 2020 Hello my name is Ernie Casco La Jolla resident, senior pilot TPGP We need LJTC help, protecting our La Jollas recreational freedom at the Gliderport. We have a proven Recreational public Waiver, that would end the dispute, An Easy fix could be done within a week. Currently Working in LA , Colorado, and Yosemite I believe. This would ....Effectively split Tandem /School operation... from public recreation freeflight. The waiver would,... Stop mandatory Club fees. Stop Insurance Fees. Both, ridiculous amounts of $. By No contest, are illegal collection of funds. (not required by law.) The waiver would also,... Stop the signing of current unfair Wavers. Stop the monopoly, the threat of violence, personal loss, false report and arrest, as they fight over power control & personal profit. The Tandem/School would,... Pay for their own insurance. (required by Law). Pay for their oversight... needed for Public Safety. San Diego City liabilities are already covered by California Recreational Statues Law. A Recreational Waiver is working at other locations, where needed. There are No waivers required at any of the other San Diego Sites. The Recreational waiver restores public access. Secures our recreational rights and freedom. Provides a Safe Tandem /School operation. It's a Win for the City, LJTC and the public rights ... I'm asking LJTC to bring this to Agenda, Provide recommendation & letter in support Show Fair representation and End the dispute.

  • Deactivate trump
Trump, along with his children, have repeatedly broadcast harmful lies and rhetoric, designed to incite people to hate and commit acts of violence and even murder. Trump and his children, along with other public figures, continue to publicly dispute Covid19 as a virus that has killed over a million people. Their lies are harming people and the owners of social media platforms have a duty to protect the public from harmful information that isn't true. By not doing this MONTHS ago, it has caused these lies about Covid 19 to spread and kill people. These deaths are partially on your hands. Since the presidential election, Trump and his children, since they have been allowed to lie repeatedly, are now lying about the election. They are leading people to falsely believe that votes were tampered with, causing Trump to lose and that it is the fault of democracy. This MUST stop or we will be forced to get a court order to shut the Trump family down. We shouldn't have to petition either of you to do the right thing.

  • Biden / Harris: Reject Mitch McConnell’s Handcuffs
President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris have won the 2020 presidential election with more popular votes than any other presidential ticket in U.S. history. Despite this, Republican Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has threatened to block Biden / Harris appointees from being confirmed in the U.S. Senate. Biden and Harris can get around McConnell's threats by using recess appointments and the Federal Vacancies Reform Act to build a strong cabinet that is unafraid of facing America's challenges. Unfortunately, reports have indicated that the Biden team may be considering a number of conservative appointees, citing Republicans’ current control of the Senate. The Biden transition team must reject McConnell’s antidemocratic threats and fulfill its mandate. The Biden / Harris administration should select a bold, visionary cabinet that can fulfill the trust and will of the millions of people who voted for them. The Revolving Door Project and Demand Progress have put together a clear memo demonstrating how Biden and Harris can build a cabinet free from McConnell's handcuffs. https://therevolvingdoorproject.org/no-mitch-mcconnell-is-not-the-46th-president/ America needs a presidential cabinet that has the courage to solve our country's problems -- not a team undermined by Mitch McConnell.

  • Change the date, time, and venue of graduation.
This is important because Sunday is a religious day for many people who often attend church and this will conflict with graduation. 8 am is also an inappropriate time for the fact that most will have to be up by 5 am to attend graduation and sleep is a luxury that we have missed out on all throughout high school so we would perfer it be moved to a later time. The time is also difficult for parents, grandparents, and family coming from far away to have to wake up that early to attend. At Taylor high school we have always graduated at Stetson university and we also do not appreciate our venue being changed this year. Stetson is much closer and more personal to us and part of our high school experience rather than the Ocean center in Daytona.

  • Support the SF Good Neighbor Policy
SF Black Wallstreet was formed in June 2020 by seven Black SF natives amid the COVD-19 pandemic and the global Black Lives Matter movement against police brutality. We are committed to securing business, cultural space, and homeownership for Black San Franciscans. This summer, SFBW and members of our community rallied around Cafe Envy -- one of the few Black-owned restaurants in the Bayview corridor to remain open during COVID-19 restrictions-- in response to excessive nuisance and compliance complaints being filed by a neighbor. Cafe Envy, located at 1701 Yosemite Avenue within the African American Arts and Culture District -- has been a site for Black locals to gather and socialize for more than 40 years. Thanks to city and community partnerships, Cafe Envy continues to be a welcoming space for Black people to legally and safely eat, drink, and celebrate our culture during the pandemic. Despite the value Cafe Envy brings to our community as a whole, one neighbor continues to terrorize our community by weaponizing his privilege, filing complaints against Cafe Envy, bullying, and intimidating the restaurant staff, patrons, and other neighbors. This week, those complaints materialized into a written petition and an organized effort to shut Cafe Envy down permanently. Fortunately, Cafe Envy remains open for business with all legal permits and staffing in place, but it is now under heightened surveillance and subjected to over-policing. White transplant residents using anti-black bullying tactics to intimidate long-term Black, Latinx, and marginalized residents by weaponizing complaints and code violations is a National issue. The underlying motive of these complaints is to shut down our businesses, over-police our spaces, and erase our culture in an attempt to make us feel unwelcome in our own neighborhoods. We can no longer allow the discomfort, fears, and expectations of privileged SF transplants to disrespect our community, regulate our community activities, or strip away our cultural identity. SF Black Wallstreet and community stakeholders are calling on city and community leaders to adopt an SF Good Neighbor Policy, a code of conduct that guides respectful engagement with the Black, Latinx, and native SF community. The Good Neighbor Policy would also penalize 311 callers for using the line to file unsubstantiated and malicious reports. The “Good Neighbor Policy” will be crafted by a coalition of Black, Latinx, and SF natives who organize and advocate on behalf of their respective communities. Black San Franciscans, like all other communities in San Francisco, are entitled to spaces where we are welcomed, celebrated, and appreciated. Sign our petition to support Cafe Envy and encourage city officials to close the loophole on 311 complaints and enact a Good Neighbor Policy to guide respectful engagement with our Black, Latinx, and native SF community!

  • Congress: No “lame duck” war with Iran
Within days of being projected the election’s loser, Trump is ALREADY setting the stage for a terrifying possibility of his last few weeks in office: war with Iran. Trump has fired Defense Secretary Mark Esper — who was on the record as not wanting war with Iran — by tweet, and has replaced a SLATE of senior defense officials with conspiracy-peddling loyalists. That's not all. Trump has dispatched his Iran envoy Elliot “convicted of lying to Congress” Abrams to Israel and Saudi Arabia “for consultations on Iran,” AND reports broke Trump’s planning a FLOOD of additional sanctions — adding new measures week over week until January 20 — escalating tensions to provoke a reaction from the Iranian government. Congress has the unequivocal power to make and STOP war. But — and this is key — we have to ensure Congress is not caught off guard by the so-called lame duck period and immediately acts before any conflict spirals dangerously out of control. Add your name now to help us raise the alarm and get ready to block ANY last-ditch attempt by the Trump administration to drag us into war with Iran.

  • Bring back asynchronous Wednesdays
As high school students, we are introduced to many things in school that we can easily get accustomed to. Asynchronous Wednesdays were established at the beginning of the school year where we can catch up on work, makeup assignments, and study independently. As COVID-19 erupted, every student had to completely switch their learning style into virtual because of it and with the bearing struggles of seeing the world around you shut down while neighbors, friends, and family getting sick it only makes a person’s mental state suffer. Sitting in front of a camera and trying to understand the specific subject without the teacher being able to come to you one-on-one is extremely difficult. Therefore we already had to change a vast part of our education. As many students have their personal lives a lot of students do not feel comfortable doing independent work on camera which simply emphasizes how much these Wednesdays mean to the student body.  These Wednesday’s felt like a day where we, students can look over our work and fully understand what our teachers taught us those previous days. Going into a fully remote school, asynchronous Wednesdays were already in place where students got used to having that one day in the week where we can slow down and comprehend each subject. Although, if these days are taken away it will put students in another difficult situation where they are going to have to adjust their learning style once again. Virtual learning is already difficult enough for teachers and students and taking these away will only make it worse. Ergo, our education is vital to us, and making changes right now will not steer us in the right direction and all we ask is if Manchester’s Board of Education will reconsider their decision on this.

  • Chicago 2021 Budget
It is the duty of our elected officials to bring a visionary response that is compassionate and bold and that addresses long-term inequities. For months, Chicagoans have participated in demonstrations which aimed to make our wishes abundantly clear. We demand a reimagining of public safety, which prioritizes holistic services and programs that address both the immediate and the long-term needs of the community, rather than continuing to pour our tax dollars into the Chicago Police Department. Second, the economic hardships residents face are as varied and diverse as our city. Our City Council must protect public sector jobs, address the needs of our housing insecure and homeless residents, increase investment in equity, and avoid property tax increases. Finally, City Council must continue to pursue and develop progressive revenue sources that will be vital to accomplish all of the above. I stand in solidarity with other Chicagoans and the Chicago Progressive Caucus which aims to address the needs of the 2021 Budget through bold measures which will help, not hurt, our communities.
