• Help Stop Cps from illegally removing kids for the money
Too many children are being removed from safe homes to unsafe homes. My son was removed from my home under false allegations and placed with his dad who denied him at birth when he did not sign the birth certificate or come around at all till he was 11. He only saw him three times after then. My sons 14 now his dad has given him marajuana and smoked it with him, he's also given him alcohol, tried to fight him under the influence of alcohol and drugs, and threaten to put him out for telling me what was going on. I expressed these concerns to the worker, her supervisor, and the hot line and still I've received no help.

  • Stop denying U.S. citizens entry at Ben Gurion Airport.
After being allowed entry through Israel's (Tel-Aviv) Ben Gurion International Airport on several occasions, on 11-24-2005 I was denied entry and imprisoned the whole night when I had committed no crime at all besides being of Arabic descent. I was humiliated by the State of Israel for no reason, as many U.S. citizens constantly are. I was going to attend my sister's wedding and instead of being a joyful time of the family gathering for a happy occasion, my whole family was worried about my whereabouts because the Israel border agents put me on the first flight leaving to Germany and I had to find another flight back to the U.S.A. It was the most humiliating experience I had ever had in my life. Israel boosts itself as the only democracy in the Middle East, but it is the only state that will deny me, a U.S. tax-paying citizen entry. • Tell Sallie Mae to Stop Fighting Lowering Student Loan Interest
Sallie Mae is funding opposition to the legislation in Congress to allow lowering student loans interest rates. My Grandson owes them over $100,000 at 6.4 percent interest. A reduction of even a percent would help. http://www.dailykos.com/story/2014/06/11/1306172/-Who-s-fighting-student-loan-reform-Why-the-lender-of-nbsp-course

  • Let's Give Every Kid in Oakland a Strong Start!
Mayor Quan has a chance to help kids in Oakland, and across the whole country. Later this month, the Council of Mayors will consider resolutions in support of expanding quality early education to every child in America. Kids who attend preschool not only do better in school as they grow older -- they're also more likely to go to college and get a good job. But for many families, a quality preschool program is simply too expensive or not available. Last year a bipartisan bill was introduced in Congress that would help every child get access to quality preschool. We need more support from the local level to push this measure forward. Support from Mayor Quan and her colleagues is the kind of local support that we will need to win. What we need to do right now is to demonstrate widespread support from people like you.

  • Do NOT Cut State Funding to PA’s Public Schools in the 2014-2015 Budget
Since 2010, inadequate levels of state funding have forced the Shippensburg Area School District (SASD) to repeatedly raise property taxes and eliminate 65 full-time teaching and support staff positions. SASD has eliminated the middle school shop and family and consumer science programs, many kindergartners sit in classrooms crowded with 26 students, young children who struggle to read have lost their reading teachers, and many class sizes are have increased to levels where effective teaching and learning are becoming a serious challenge. Our community and our children cannot afford another year of inadequate state funding to our schools. Our quality of life and the future of our children are dependent on the legislature’s ability to do the difficult work of governing and adopting a responsible budget that meets the needs of our communities.

  • It's time for action on gun safety in Oregon
Gun violence is a recurring tragedy in Oregon with a person dying from a gunshot almost every day. Horrific shootings like those at Reynolds High School and Clackamas Town Center focus our attention on this public health crisis and the need for our leaders to take action. It is time for the Oregon Legislature to act to reduce gun violence. In both 2013 and 2014, the Legislature declined to bring gun violence legislation to the floor for a vote. Although no single law will end gun violence, there are simple, proven steps to reduce violence – like requiring a background check every time someone buys a gun. We, the people of Oregon, demand that our leaders take action to address gun violence. It is a preventable tragedy and the time for excuses is over. We call on our legislators to act, and to commit themselves to action today. We will be watching.

  • FERC: Stop a fracked gas disaster on the Chesapeake!
The Obama administration is on the verge of approving a major fracked gas disaster -- and we need your voice now to stop it. The gas industry wants to build a massive export terminal at Cove Point, on the Chesapeake Bay in southern Maryland, that would take gas from fracking wells across Appalachia, liquefy it and ship it to Asia. This plan would trigger a huge expansion of toxic fracking. The process of exporting fracked and liquefied natural gas is so dirty that it pollutes the climate as much as burning coal! Yet, on May 15, President Obama's Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) released a draft Environmental Assessment for the Cove Point project that sweeps all major dangers under the rug. In other words, FERC is paving the way for the gas industry to make bigger profits -- instead of protecting our health, safety and climate. Now it's our turn to speak out. FERC is accepting public input on its draft environmental review until Monday, June 16th. From increased fracking and pipelines, to worsening climate pollution and safety risks to nearby Maryland residents, we know a massive fracked gas export facility on the Chesapeake Bay is NOT in the public interest. Join with activists across the nation saying “no” to fracked gas exports, and submit your comment today!

  • Require that all data brokers be accountable and transparent.
These lists such as "White Pages" or "Intellius" contain information which allows criminals to gather personal information. This is a dire and immediate threat to our privacy and safety. Data brokers should provide a means for people to remove or correct their listing. I have had numerous experiences, as many people have, of scam artists getting access to my personal information and attempting to involve us in various criminal actions. Senator Rockefeller created Senate Bill 2025 "Data Broker and Transparency Act" which now sits in committee. The House of Representatives should enact a similar bill, perhaps making it stronger, and requiring that data brokers obtain our permission to list our data. This is, after all, our personal information.
