There are no laws governing the disclosure of GMO use in the products we buy and consume every day. The studies have proven that GMO's are linked to many adverse and dangerous health effects when consumed. The consumer should have the rite to be able to make intelligient choices on what we want to buy and consume based on accurate information provided by the companies who sell these products. It is very difficult and almost impossible at this point to be able to avoid these products without adequate labeling laws put into effect immediatly.

Our children's education should be top priority. Closing Verona Elementary will only hurt that. They will be put into classrooms with far to many kids and not be able to get the one on one help they may need. Plus the time they will have to spend on buses just to get to school. The welfare and education of our children should be the main goal. Not closing another school. Make cuts elsewhere to keep Verona Elementary open.

This petition is to get someone, somewhere in the Government to admit that Toxic Black Mold Kills People. The Food and Drug Administration does not require safety testing of new genetically modified foods (“GMOs”), instead relying on corporations' profits from the sale of such foods to ensure their safety for us. Contrary to industry claims, GMO foods have not been proven safe, and a growing body of independent, peer-reviewed studies have linked the consumption of GMO foods to allergies, infertility, immune problems, gastrointestinal disruption, cancer, and a host of other diseases. GMO crops can easily contaminate non-GMO crops, threatening organic agriculture, and their use is linked to increases in toxic pesticide use and the emergence of “superweeds.” Further, the absence of labeling of GMO foods and seeds prohibits those with specific ethical or religious practices from making informed food choices. More than 60 other countries around the world inform their citizens if their food is genetically engineered, and national polls consistently show that more than 90% of Americans want to share this same basic human right. GMO labeling legislation has been introduced in over 25 states, and on June 3, 2013, Connecticut passed a GMO labeling law - the first in the nation. But, it requires at least four other states to adopt similar legislation before it goes into effect. One state must border Connecticut. Massachusetts now has the opportunity to help protect the transparency, integrity, and democracy of our food supply for all Americans.

After the budget battles that have been waged over the last few years, we need a budget that rejects austerity, invests in our retirement security and puts Americans back to work and leaves us all better off. And, this week, the Congressional Progressive Caucus delivered just that with their Better Off Budget. Separate from the federal budget process, the proposal also endorses expanding Social Security, to create a real prosperity agenda for America and a total rejection of the failed policies of austerity. The Better Off Budget reverses the damage done by the across-the-board budget cuts known as the “sequester.” They create 8.8 million new jobs by investing in job training programs, rebuilding our country’s crumbling infrastructure and providing states with the resources to hire public employees such as police, firefighters and health care workers. And, the kicker is that this budget still reduces the deficit by more than $4 trillion over ten years. The Congressional Progressive Caucus’ Better Off Budget reverses the damage that Congress’ austerity obsession has inflicted on hard-working families and restores our economy to its full potential. We can’t reverse the growing trend of economic inequality in America without addressing the retirement security crisis and without creating new decent paying jobs. And this proposal does both!

In NYC, we can begin to phase out Charter Schools that are illegally located in Public Schools and paying no rent. We can begin to phase back in Public Schools, bringing in with us what works. The list of problems of Charter Schools co-locating within Public Schools is long. The bad has exceeded the good. Thus, it's time to correct the problem. Creating Academies and or Houses within Public Schools can and will work. This will give students a feel of a smaller school with the access to public school resources and funding. We need to turn our schools back into community schools that can and will provide excellence. Especially after the winter we had in New York, we don't need to send our children miles away from their homes for a good education. Besides, we also need the space to lessen class size and for Pre-K students who will be entering school in September 2014. Eva Moskowitz, Republican businesses, and the former Mayor of NYC allegedly made millions, even billions off of our children. It's time to stop this mess. I am not saying Charter Schools shouldn't exist. Keep the the excellent ones, which are actually few, and the money used for media campaigns, and campaign contributions among the financially elite, can be used to purchase properties to house Charter Schools. What I am saying is develop and enhance Public Schools, and stop taking public money to make a few folks richer at the expense of our children.

Sampling is a major part of the vaping industry. Doctors from around the globe agree that e-cigarettes are safer than traditional cigarettes. The city council and Council Member Suja Lowenthal think that conviction enough is a reason for current smokers to try the alternative. Smokers who have tried the patch, the inhalers, the gum, medication, all to no avail. It's made us skeptical. Vape shops allow people interested in seeking an alternative to learn more, try it out and answer any questions along the way. Every other city around Long Beach has added amendments allowing Vape shops to sample and keep their lounges. The council members admitted they didn't know enough on the topic and that more time should be taken to do it right, however they got tired of deliberating and passed the ordinance as it stood. The ordinance also lacks any sort of grandfathering in of Vape shops. If forced to be regulated similar to tobacco shops, we may lose some of our favorite shops due to zoning restrictions. Sign this petition. Help local small businesses. Keep Long Beach on a level playing field and show City Council we won't stand for lazy policy making. Who knows, together we might even save some lives.

It is unfair that families are suffering because they think you did something. There should never be someone in jail for a crime they did not commit. They should know beyond a reasonable doubt before they place anyone in custody and probable cause is not enough!!!! Please help us fight this my children need there father who is sorry for what he did do but being punished for what he didnt do!!

If you are unfamiliar with the situation with Manzo, He unfairly beat a 16 year old over the head with a flashlight after being verbally inquired by this young man. After pulling over the boys father, the boy defended his dad's actions - and was then promptly, dragged out of the car into the squad car, and then beaten over the head with a flashlight. The city settled with the family, but only to avoid further action - this is not the first time that police brutality has become an issue in our County. If anything ; it has consistently been overlooked. Please consider the lives at stake , and the reputation it is setting for the rest of the police station, by allowing these men to continue active duty after such violent and selfish acts. All it takes is the willingness to agree that this is wrong. That they should be held to the same standards as the citizens trying their best to get through day to day, and that our rights and fair treatment is part of the oath they swore to protect.
